The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed heavy sanctions on Kano Pillars following the violent conduct of their fans during a match against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, News360 Nigeria reports.

Trouble erupted on Sunday after 3SC scored a late equaliser, prompting some angry fans to invade the pitch and attack the referees.

Several players from the visiting team were also injured during the chaos before security operatives dispersed the crowd with teargas and escorted the victims to safety.

In a statement issued on Monday, the NPFL announced a deduction of three points and three goals from Kano Pillars’ total for the assault on match officials. The club was also fined a total of N9.5 million for various offences.

According to the league body, Kano Pillars were fined N1 million each for failing to provide adequate security, allowing the throwing of dangerous objects onto the pitch, and not controlling their supporters, totalling N4 million. An additional N2 million fine was imposed for the assault on players and match officials, while another N2 million was levied as compensation for treatment and damages to 3SC players and officials.

The statement added that the club must also pay N1.5 million in compensatory damages of N250,000 each to the assaulted match officials.

The NPFL further ordered the closure of the Sani Abacha Stadium for all Kano Pillars’ home matches indefinitely. The team will now play its remaining home fixtures of the season in Katsina.

“The club have further been directed to produce the perpetrators of the ugly incident on Sunday and show proof of prosecution as well as put in place an effective matchday security arrangement which must be submitted to NPFL within seven days,” the statement concluded.

Sanctions na water for Kano pillars. They will serve their punishments and their fans will still invade their pitch again. Their management should be setting aside sanctions money before the start of every season

I feel the sanctions are not enough, they are actually being given a soft landing to continue their misbehaviour.

What about the useless and biased officials, what sanctions will be placed on them?

NPFL is another useless organisation, no wonder no Nigerian referee is worthy of a shot at international competition. Corrupt officials...

9.5 million heavy saction?

Wetin one alhaji go comfortably pay.

NPFL is a corrupt body. Whatabout the keeper that got stabbed? Shouldn't NPFL take it up as an attempted and premeditated murder case.

With is baby feed saction expect more offenders.

I wish say 3sc dey southeast, dead body for surplus for return leg. 3sc alas is in the region that is not known for bravery.

LOL pray they don't experience the wrath of Ibadan boys. Which sabo? How many are they? 😂

I really pity the innocent Kano Pillars players and I pray it doesn't happen in Ibadan cos it won't be funny. When it comes to violence I fear Ibadan and Ife boys. But that won't happen IJN, cos violence is never the solution.

The sanctions are the perfect solution, in order to prevent retaliation.

Fans who probably paid 500 each to watch the game brought their club a fine of N9.5 million. cheesy I don't know why Northerners love violence so much.

Their board members don’t learn

This will teach them a BIG lesson. I was waiting for the fine, it's long over and should have even been heavier because of the injuries inflicted on the players of shooting stars. Hope others will learn from this shocked

You actually took those words from my mouth, I've been looking for a way to reply him.

How would someone who is privy make an assumption that the Hausa dominated part of sabo at Mokola will precede the Ibadan people at anywhere in Ibadan.

This joke should be told in another life time... undecided

Sanctions that I was expecting.

1. Ban coach for 6month
2. Ban supporters for 2 years
3. Relegation to NLL
4. 200 million fine to offset medical expenses
5. 100 strokes of koboko to all kano pillar's players including musa.
6. From next match they will start every match with 1 goal behind.

Kano pillars feel more at home when they come to ibadan. Try to visit the stadium anytime Kano pillars are in town, you will understand my point. You will see more hausas in the 🏟️ than yoruba. But I don't pray for violence to erupt to settle scores.
