Strike: We Won’t Be Intimidated By No-Work-No-Pay Threat - ASUU by Ofunaofu(op): 9:47pm On Oct 13, 2025
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has dismissed the Federal Government’s ‘No Work, No Pay’ directive, insisting that the union will not be intimidated by threats.

ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, stated this on Monday while speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s current affairs programme ‘Politics Today.’

He said the union remained united and would not succumb to what he described as the government’s attempt to divide the academic community.

“We don’t respond to threats, and nobody can threaten us,” Piwuna said.

Piwuna maintained that all academic bodies, such as the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA), were standing together in support of the strike action.

“He is threatening us, writing to NAMDA and CONUA, telling them they can get their salaries. He wants to divide us, but we are united in this matter.

“CONUA is with us, NAMDA is with us, SSANU is with us, NASU is with us. The polytechnics and colleges of education are also with us,” he said.

The ASUU President advised the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, to focus on resolving the ongoing dispute instead of issuing threats.

“He has got something coming. He had better sit down and solve this problem or he will fail in trying to divide us,” Piwuna added.

Piwuna also hinted that the union remained open to dialogue and was ready to engage with the Federal Government.

“Today, I received a call from the Minister of State for Labour. She said she has been directed to intervene and get this matter resolved. ASUU is willing. We are ready and available to discuss this matter once and for all,” the ASUU president added.

Tinubu has always been known as someone who can intimidate and bully the poor masses to submission. Man is undemocratic.

The Tertiary educational system has not witnessed disruption for the last 2 years since Tinubu came on board however you can imagine how some unfortunate ones are celebrating and urging ASUU to not back down because they just want the govt to fail and fall by all means. ASUU problem never started with Tinubu and all the past presidents before Tinubu had failed in their capacity as president to resolve this. Why was this issue not resolved during Jonathan's 6years in power? You won't see them blame Jonathan but their hatred is directed at Tinubu. Sebi they also have their children in public universities in Nigeria, when their children sit at home for a longer time, dem go know Whatsapp. President Tinubu should as a matter of fact see what can be done to resolve this lingering issue with ASUU so that the prayers of those children of hate who wants his government to fall will not come to pass.

The union says the pay is insufficient. They are striking on it and you are threatening with no work no pay.

Resolve the pay issue and use the time to introduce proper audit for institutions' finances from top to bottom. The audit should be independent of the ministry as people are fleecing the country.

ASUU and the government should quickly reach a resolution.

I would advise Nigerian students to write the GRE and study abroad.

All my GRE clients got a GRE score of 320+

Is ASUU the only body in Nigeria. Why are others not going on strike. It's always ASUU or Doctors since Independence. Something is wrong somewhere.

. responses, were they paid arrears (for not working)?, do they have a right to strike on legitimate concerns? the students what happens to them during this period (robbery and prostitute loading )? the political class not having children in our institution (does it not shows they already themselves do not believe in the country )? let's look at fundamentals

Tinubu's administration has experienced two years uninterrupted strike not because all is well but because of the assurances that everything will be resolved. Seeing that the government hasn't been sincere with them, the union had to declare strike.

Government is owing FTIs 12 months arrears and you expect them not act. Well, I don't blame you.
