Gunmen Abduct PRNigeria Journalist in Kogi While Travelling for Media Fellowship

By Queen Madaki | The Bureau News

A multimedia journalist with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, Mr. Salis Manaja, has been abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday while the journalist was travelling from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, to Ilorin, Kwara State, for the PRNigeria Young Communication Scholars Fellowship.

He was reportedly kidnapped along a section of the highway passing through Kogi State, a route increasingly notorious for bandit attacks and abductions.

“We Spoke With His Abductors” — PRNigeria Official

Confirming the development, the Head of Innovation and Special Projects at PRNigeria, Dahiru Muhammad-Lawal, said the abduction had left the organisation’s staff members deeply distressed.

“We were expecting to see him in Ilorin on Saturday, but his line became unreachable after he confirmed to us that he had departed from Abakaliki. We made several attempts to get in touch but to no avail. Eventually, we managed to speak with him through the number of his abductors on Sunday afternoon,” Mr. Lawal told journalists.

He added that the management of Image Merchants Promotion Limited is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure Mr. Manaja’s safe release.

The incident adds to the growing list of abductions involving journalists and media professionals across Nigeria’s highways, highlighting worsening insecurity and the urgent need for enhanced protection of field reporters.

But the Presidency said Nigeria is "superlatively" safer now. The evidence being that there are no longer prison breaks.

You see bah, if Nigeria was a movie, it will be a 10 seasons Tragicomedy

Sorry to the victim for all the suffering and trauma. I wish him safe return.

The country is very safe now and corruption has been wipe out....in the mud the bwala guy said that Nigeria is superlatively safer now ...yet insecurities and corruption is on the rise ...tinubu even unleash more criminals out of the prison to worsen the whole thing....when hardened criminals and murderers are pardoned it send dangerous signal that weaken security agencies and strengthen criminals to continue in their crimes ...but I wish that perhaps security agencies should start killing kidnappers armrobbers, bandits on the spot ,so that tomorrow one crazy president will come and pardon them...

Kogi is big for nothing.

Outside of Lokoja (the State Capital) that looks like a shanty town, the vast land mass of the state is covered by thick forests. Driving all the way from Ejule through Ajaokuta en route Lokoja is very nerve-wrecking.

Ever wonder why their governors spend majority of their time in Abuja?

The release of bandits and kidnappers is what is fueling the surge of kidnapping. A society without deterrence have exposed it's people to death and destruction in the hands of terrorists and violent criminals. I pity Nigerians.

I have never seen any serious country pardon violent criminals that have killed it's citizens...we have evil leaders.
