Former members of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP)
The UNCP was the most successful of the five parties during Abacha's transition program, and its ranks included figures who later played key roles in the Fourth Republic.
• Atiku Abubakar: A leading member of the UNCP, Abubakar is one of Nigeria's most enduring political figures. After the military transition, he co-founded the PDP and served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007. He has since run for president multiple times.
• Ali Modu Sheriff: He was the National Treasurer of the UNCP and later became a prominent member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the PDP. He served as Governor of Borno State from 2003 to 2011 and as the National Chairman of the PDP.
• Ibrahim Mantu: The former Publicity Secretary of the UNCP was elected Deputy President of the Senate in 2001, a position he held until 2007.
• Adamu Aliero: A member of the UNCP, he was elected Governor of Kebbi State in 1999 and served as a senator and later as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
• Anyim Pius Anyim: A former UNCP member, he became the President of the Nigerian Senate from 2000 to 2003 and later served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Former member of the Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM)

Former member of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN)
• Jeremiah Useni: A retired army lieutenant general and former Minister for the Federal Capital Territory during Abacha's regime, Useni was a founding member of the Democratic People's Party (DPP). He was later elected to the Senate in 2015.
