Soludo disbands arbitrary traffic fines, orders ₦10,000 cap in Anambra

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has halted arbitrary traffic default fines across Anambra State and directed Local Authorities to revert to a ₦10,000 charge for traffic violations. The announcement came on October 13, 2025, at Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, during an endorsement rally by transportation stakeholders, The Bureau News reports.

What changes on the roads — Nigeria News Today

According to the Governor, all unauthorised taskforces collecting traffic levies are disbanded. He said a formal enforcement mechanism would be constituted under due process to handle traffic offences, adding that transport workers remain “major stakeholders” in the state’s economic transformation.

Why transport unions pushed for action

Representatives of road transport unions told The Bureau News they raised concerns about arbitrary fines and the activities of non-state actors at the event. They said a unified, lawful approach to enforcement will reduce extortion, improve compliance and restore confidence in the sector.

Campaign trail context

The announcement came as Governor Soludo, the APGA candidate for the November 8 off-cycle governorship election, toured Onitsha. He highlighted ongoing road construction in the last three years and promised further works after inspecting locations around the Onitsha Main Market, where traders turned out in large numbers.

What motorists should expect now

Immediate cap: Traffic default charges revert to ₦10,000 statewide.
Clean-up of enforcement: Unauthorised taskforces dissolved; a lawful special enforcement unit to handle violations.
Focus on orderliness: Government says the reset aims to cut extortion, ease movement and support commerce.

According to the Governor, all unauthorised taskforces collecting traffic levies are disbanded.
How can you disband what you did not authorize? Or are you lying that they are not authorized?

Soludo performed well below expectations. But he has no competitor in the forthcoming election. Nicholas Ukachukwu is not visible. Val Ozigbo would have been a good candidate but he played himself. Alex couldn't convince the good doctor to come back for a rematch.

It may seem that Soludo is running unopposed.
