When My Guy Snitched: How God Saved Me

You never really know who your true friends are until wahala knocks on your door. That’s something I learned the hard way.

It all started back in Lagos, 2022. Hustle was tough, and everybody was looking for a way to make ends meet. Me and my homeboy, Tega, had been rolling together since secondary school — same hood, same dreams, same hunger. We used to say, “We go make am together, no matter how.”

I was doing small online work — freelance gigs, crypto trading, sometimes flipping accounts for commission. It wasn’t always straight, but it wasn’t exactly bad either. Just street survival, you know? But somehow, one small mistake almost landed me behind bars.

One day, Tega hit me up.
“Bro, I get connect for one foreign job. Big money involved. You fit run some transactions for me?”

Normally, I no dey touch anything suspicious again — I’d already told God I was done with anything shady. But the way things were going, I was tempted. Still, something inside told me chill.

So I told Tega no.

Next thing I know, two weeks later, EFCC agents pulled up at my gate early morning — loud knocks, black vans, bulletproof vests. Before I could even say ‘wetin dey happen?’, they burst in shouting my name like they rehearsed it.

They searched everything. Phone, laptop, even my prayer journal. Apparently, someone mentioned my name in connection to a “financial fraud network.”

Guess who?
Tega.

He had gotten caught, and to save himself, he gave them my name — said I was the one handling “the back-end.”
My guy. My brother. My day one.

I spent two days in EFCC custody. No food, no sleep, just pure fear. They kept showing me screenshots, transactions I’d never seen in my life. I told them I was innocent, but who believes that story in Nigeria?

Then something miraculous happened. The lead investigator called me aside. He said,
“Your name came up, but the evidence doesn’t tie back to you. Someone is lying — and it’s not you.”

Turns out, one of the accounts Tega used was traced directly to his own BVN. His lies backfired. They released me that evening, no charges filed.

When I stepped out into the street, the evening air felt like freedom itself. I didn’t even go home straight — I just stood outside, looked up, and whispered,
“God, thank you. You really saved me.

One of the biggest mistake you can make as a man is putting all your trust in one so called 'friend', they will ruin you without remorse.
Though, there are very few exception

Sorry for the ordeal... Sometimes someone closer to you can easily harm you than a stranger... Could you believe I was locked up in the cell just this past Monday simply because we were looking for a car battery and no one among my Co pilots is taking responsibility...
There is this car that was abandoned in our office and none of the drivers go closer to it cos there is no fuel and the battery is bad... We were called sometime last week to move the car to mechanic workshop when we noticed the battery was missing.. why we couldn't mention anyone was that 2 drivers didn't comes to work anymore and neither resigned or sacked be the company... ..so we don't really know who stole the battery.. we were all arrested and detained till evening when will bail ourselves with 10k each ....

And thats where it ended? None of you, if truly innocent, can stand up and sue the company for wrongful detention?

You are lucky. Mine was about 12 years ago. Started making some sales for a big real estate company in Ikeja and collecting my commission steadily intending to run my masters program along with my hustle. Suddenly one of their sales manager there at that time refused to give me my commission on a sale worth millions of naira giving me excuses and promises despite I helped him meet his sales target. Thereafter a staff in the company falsely accused me that I want to sell one of the company’s properties advertised for sale to her client at an undervalued price which was absolutely false. They escalated the matter to their management and coo and without her thinking straight or doing diligent investigation invited the police who arrested me in their office.
At the station I was assaulted, shoes were removed, paper and biro was given to me to write statement. And phone was taken from me to find out any incriminating evidence to the crime.
They found none but found receipts and commissions of many of all my accreditated sales and property listings. And the ones they deliberately refused to pay me with excuse including my chats with them.
They felt sorry and remorseful for their actions and advised me not to work for that company again after I bailed myself out of the station from my pocket

So, what happened afterwards?
Were you released and given the commission you earned?

Yes I was. I think the police gave the COO a call and harshly scolded her because she called me immediately to her office to now settle down to hear my side. When they found out that the manager was indeed holding my commission the office took action and I was paid immediately with apologies. Remaining balance was paid few days later.
I don’t think she was even aware that I was making sales or knowledgeable about my inflows at that time given the way she treated me harshly and the accountants have to make a report to her after that. It was like she was thinking of me as a pest to get rid of.

They did not investigate the false accusation made against me. A year later the properties they accused me of trying to sell at an undervalued price was later advertised and sold at a far lower price.

Im not saying going to church is not good and hearing the word of God, I'm a Christian also, and it a very good advice, but let me tell you one story..

I'm a Catholic, one of our old church warden has not been in church for like a year, very active old man in almost all society he belongs to..

He stood as a guarantor for someone who collected millions, but the person ran away with the money, they picked him up, and ended in kirikiri prison for more than a year, it was when they were doing visitation to the prison they found him there, that was how he was saved the following week...

Everything always happen for a reason, we should just pray that God should not take us to a place we will never see help or return 🙏
