Lagos Government Denies Role in FESTAC Demolitions following accusations by Ex-footballer, Emenike

The Lagos State Government has refuted claims linking it to the recent demolition of buildings in FESTAC Town.

In a statement titled “Lagos Government Denies Involvement in FESTAC Demolition”, Mukaila Sanusi, Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, said the exercise was not authorised by the state government.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, clarified that Lagos had no hand in the demolitions and that the operation did not follow the state’s established procedures.

He stressed that all demolition exercises in Lagos must go through proper legal processes, including the issuance of statutory notices and engagement with affected parties.

“Any demolition carried out without the government’s authorisation does not represent the policy or practice of this administration,” Olumide stated, adding that the state remains committed to fairness, due process, and the protection of property rights.

He also advised all agencies, including federal bodies operating within Lagos, to seek clearance from the ministry before conducting any demolition activities.

The clarification follows recent demolitions in FESTAC’s 6th Avenue, where over 15 buildings were brought down over the weekend, leaving traders and shop owners distressed.

The Lagos State Government Nazi state government think we all are fools and do not have brains.

What’s the purpose of denying what is glaring? The ethnic bigotry and cleansing spearheaded by the government is known to all, and denying is an insult to the intelligence of many.

Historians should note downin the records tha, a Führer once governed Lagos.

Anyone familiar with how Adolf Hitler started his anti immigrant campaign will definitely knows where Lagos is heading too.

The Lagos state government should just change the state flag to below cos the agenda is not hidden again.

This is quite pathetic... What are they trying to achieve by these acts of demolition?
Going from area to area, demolishing properties that you have collected monies for CofO, and other levies.

Lagos state in the hands of bigots!

What’s the difference between this selective and ethic cleansing demolition and those done in Gaza?

Simply because Tinubu lost an election Lagos, Igbos must be dealt with by destroying their investments in a country where they should have equal rights and opportunities?

Emenike will do well to stop threatening an elected public officer in the person of the LASG Governor. You can lay a complaint without threats. You could get arrested for threatening people.
Chinua Achebe a prominent Igbo and a global literary icon had this to say about The Igbo, his kith and kin -"There is no doubt at all that there is a strand in contemporary Igbo behaviour that can offend; by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness."
The Igbo will do well to not ignite ethnic tensions that generate ill wind that blows no one no good like it happened back then in Zaria and the North generally in the late ‘60s resulting in the Civil War that broke the Igbo. It would appear that the Igbo learnt nothing from the Civil War no thanks to Obasanjo who cancelled the study of History in Nigerian schools and robbed the younger generation of the opportunity to study the civil war. It is not unknown that the Igbo contravene building codes with impunity and are adept at buying up building approvals as they believe money can do all things such as building on waterways- go to Festac town and see what they have turned the place into! So long as they continue in their antisocial and unlawful ways will the LASG demolish their property! Chest beating, playing the victim card and displaying victim mentality has not and will not help the Igbo! Be wise!

If the demolition was illegal, someone ought to pay na. Is that a threat? Keep playing the ostrich and pretend you don't know what's going on. Bandits are ravaging Kwara , and people like you will pretend that they don't know the end game of those jihadists. Keep pretending until it gets to your doorstep. Like Emenike said, Igbos no de hear word. They have been warned severally about doing business and sinking money into certain places...

I guess you never read in the newspapers that unknown gunmen and Fulani herders kill folks and rape women in the South-East of Nigeria. https://www.facebook.com/ReportYourself/posts/enugu-women-protest-attacks-rapes-by-armed-men-suspected-to-be-herders-accuse-se/1200780678070113/ Quite saddening that you appear not to understand what I wrote. What Emenike wrote out there is clear enough as to its meaning. It is quite different from, say, - "Whoever authorised such demolition will be held responsible for it." Well, maybe it's in the DNA!
Re: LASG Denies Role In FESTAC Demolitions Following Accusations By Emenike by Guyman02: 7:51am On Oct 16, 2025
This is really bad, it means anybody can hire a bulldozer and demolish any structure he has issues with and claim it was the Lagos State government and the state Govt will deny responsibility and won't go after the perpetrators using its name to commit illegality, it then implies that LASG is behind their actions but hiding under culpable deniability.
This is a low point for Lagos state

How do you guys reason ?. Except the buildings don’t have approvals, if not, what’s the justification for demolishing peoples hard earned properties?. If you say they bribed government officials to obtain permits, what has happened to the government officials that approved the permits?. Remember, other arrears outside Lagos will one day get the same access to seaports that Lagos enjoys today and when that happens, we pray not to have bigots in government like in Lagos today.

Investigative journalists should take this up and get to the root of the matter. Anyone who illegally demolishes the property of another citizen should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law. I expected Ndi Igbo to properly brief Counsel to do the needful instead of issuing ultimatums and threatening the State Governor.

Wow! How you reason is what exactly is shocking!! You commit illegality and you do not expect to be called to question by the Law! Dealing with errant government officials who sold building permits is quite a different matter which Ndigbo will do well to pursue and unmask and seek the prosecution of the bad eggs. That is the best way to go.

Yes Ndigbo should just be quiet and watch Agberos bring bulldozers to demolish their properties which has all the necessary approvals
Unmask the perpetrators of the alleged illegal demolitions through civil processes instead of issuing threats and ultimatums. Bring it to the attention of the International Community who will investigate thoroughly and make known the results of their findings. That is better and more enduring for the cause you pursue. Did you learn anything from the Civil War at all? Chest-beating, threats and ultimatums led to the Civil-War. Peaceful ways of resolving disputes is the better way to go. Bikonu!

Yea, there's no pretence and denial about the devilish things some jihadists in the name of bandits are doing all over the country. No pretence that Christians in some parts of the country are targeted for extermination by some faceless individuals. It's you and your people that are denying everything for whatever reason.
