FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

PRESS RELEASE

16th October, 2025

FAKE NEWS ALERT: JAMB REMAINS THE SOLE AUTHORIZED BODY FOR TERTIARY ADMISSIONS IN NIGERIA — MINISTER ALAUSA

The attention of the Federal Ministry of Education has been drawn to a misleading publication circulating in some newspapers and online platforms, falsely claiming that the Ministry has announced that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa CON, wishes to categorically state that this report is false, baseless, and did not originate from the Federal Ministry of Education. At no point did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions.

For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any contrary information should be disregarded in its entirety.

The Federal Ministry of Education completely dissociates itself from the false publication and urges the general public particularly prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions to rely solely on official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB for accurate and verified information regarding admission policies and education-related matters.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to uphold transparency, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission system. He emphasized that the Ministry remains committed to protecting the integrity of the admission process and ensuring that merit and due process guide all admissions into higher institutions.

The Ministry further cautions media houses, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid misleading the public and spreading misinformation capable of causing unnecessary confusion within the education sector.

The Federal Ministry of Education reiterates that there has been no change in the existing role of JAMB which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. Any publication or online post claiming otherwise is entirely false and should be treated as such.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the official websites and social media handles of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for authentic updates on educational matters.

They should scrap either post UTME or JAMB. Students cannot continue with, "you write JAMB in Lagos then travel to Kaduna for post UTME".
Or they should let JAMB conduct both entrance examinations for the sake of transparency and credibility.
JAMB should be able to determine if a student is qualified to study in any tertiary institutions in the country's tertiary education system.

Jamb should be scrapped asap, they’re the bottleneck hindering foreign students in our institutions

So JAMB is the standardized system?
They should scrap that shit, no need whatsoever. They should conduct one entrance exam. In other countries, you can only attend specific school interview or test after meeting certain admission requirements and that takes you to class room if you do well, in Nigeria that must find way get money from students and still frustrate you on top in the name of JAMB
Re: Jamb Remains The Sole Authorized Body For Tertiary Admissions - Minister by Nobody: 2:01am On Oct 17, 2025
Very good!

Of the universities become autonomous with admission, then the corruption in our primary and secondary schools will get into our tertiary education.

10 year olds will start getting admission into the university

Why write jamb and go to the university when you can visit oluwole centres and get a bsc and masters of any university. Or better still even buy the certificate from any university.

I heard certificate forgers are now occupying high positions in every facet of government.

They desperately want to control academic advancements in areas they see as their "competitors"..
Folks who want to stand above others by standing on top of them..

This Lagos APCs diabolical attempts to weaponise JAMB enrollments and sundry education policies like the student loan initiatives, which have all been skewed to favour certain regions against a certain region, is to say the least - nonplussing..

Since JAMB can now willfully fail students that have stayed up all nights to prepare their exams for no understandable reasons, universities should be allowed to conduct their entrance exams and present results to JAMB.

A triabal JAMB is a dangerous JAMB..
Woe betide APC !

They can't claim to be the "most educated" anymore as they used to, so now they want to torpedo academic advancements in other areas using all tools provided to them by the federal government..
Petty ethnic jingoists and the kiriji mentality...

Jamb might have offered this man a huge amount of percentage for this.

An enterprise that milk citizens of billions every year won't be scrapped in a hurry.

Money milk from sms
Money milk from printing admission letter etc, calculate and be surprised

But truth be told, JAMB has outlived it's usefulness in Nigeria.

JAMB has done more harm to the progress of the Nigerian tertiary education system than the "good" it was supposed to deliver.

JAMB has destroyed & frustrated the educational dreams of Nigerian youths, while extorting them in the process!

While the whole world is inculcating newer models of education backed by AI and other technology, Nigeria is still stuck to the colonial relic called JAMB.

I believe JAMB was designed to specifically distort and limit the destinies of the next generation of Nigerians. Its main purpose is to perpetually keep Nigeria educationally backward.

JAMB hinders foreigners from being admitted in any Nigerian University. Tell me how this is a progressive policy for a nation that hopes to succeed on the international scene.

IT IS TIME TO SCRAP THIS USELESS, OUTDATED & VINDICTIVE JAMB! 😠😠😡

*****

PS: Anyone who supports JAMB is part of Nigeria's problems.
