Wait! I am a bit confused with most, almost all, of the people who have commented here are saying. Recommendation is not acceptance in law. And we all know this. Bola Tinubu recommended some people for ministerial positions and when they were reviewed, they didn't make the cut. But he had to nominate and announce his list, first, before the review committee would start their own jobs. Were his nominations for pardon terrible? I feel so. Did it reflect a bias for criminals? Again, I feel so. But then, that's his own prerogative. As the Nigerian public, we are to cry out that the review committee do what is societally just and fair and cut off his personal bias. And the society has spoken, we await what the reviewers will end up with. |

The country is battling with kidnapping and the bad image that drug pushers has given us internationally. Then the ones that we manage to apprehend the president is granting them presidential pardon. 🤡 |

That one with kidnapping history should not be speard, or else he would go back to business as as usual. In fact lets know the person that recommended him in the first place, he may know something about current kidnapping that is happening in Nigeria. |

Tochi3:It is not just Tinubu that is confused even his poor hungry die hard supporters. If this news did not breakout like this some of the stupid supporters would still be supporting the evil of the drug lord, thank God their principal is contemplating the useless decision he took a while ago. I really do not have problems with his rich supporters but the poor ones who have never benefitted a thing from the evil man and yet support evil of this clueless individual and his evil party in empty stomach and huge debt. |

Is this government seeking blood? Why will a sane government be releasing violent killers? Something sinister is going on, first they release bokoharam killers, no they are releasing kidnappers, when people with misdemeanour and awaiting trial for petty crimes etc, abound in prison. These politicians don't care they move with security, it's the citizens that bear the brunt of these evil decisions. |

All drug barons should have their names dropped from that list. Kidnappers and those with record of violent crime should have their names dropped from the list. |

Those who should be getting these pardons are those in prison for reasons and causes they know nothing about, those with little offences but locked up, those unable to pay little fines passed on them by the court through judgment, those with non-life-threatening offences, those falsely accused...not those who will get out, regroup, and start seeking revenge. |

Such a lame excuse, so before governing the president such list, the committee didn’t think of doing their due diligence by sending all such names to the prosecutorial Agencies that took such convicts to court and get clearance Shame on the AGF who happens to chair the committee |

This whole pardon saga is a total embarrassment. How do you release such a sensitive list without proper vetting or consulting everyone “consultable”? In a properly run system, this pardon list should never even get to the President or Council of State (or even be announced) without ensuring real work has gone into professional and institutional vetting. The Ministry of Justice, Correctional Service, EFCC, NDLEA, Police, etc., should all have gone through it diligently and presented a clean, defensible list to the Council before the public ever saw it. But no, we just love drama. They had the President approve a poorly reviewed list, waited for public outrage, and are now “reviewing” it after the damage is done. Classic cart-before-the-horse governance that these so-called leaders are known for. And of course, the usual excuse: “low-level members smuggled in names.” Please! The real failure is right at the top: the Attorney General’s office and everyone who signed off blindly. As always, nobody will be held responsible, and if anyone is, we’ll never hear of it. Things like this make those of us who still care about this country lose hope. |

Two things here The total failure of institutions and conversely the 'personalisation' of government on steroids. This is what you get with an autocracy. Where there are no checks and balances. Where institutions operate at the whim of the maxim leader. All.it takes to rise above the law is to get close to the autocrat. That is why Nigerians will have to accept that so called junior civil servants or so called low level officers can subvert the rule of law. What again is the definition a banana republic then. So sad. Like I said in my only previous response to this matter. You can do anyhow to the people that careless about how they are governed. But once you begin to undermine the institutions of security and defence, of law and order, the government is playing with fire and like it happened with the De Gaulle government in France you begin to plant dissent within those institutions that can snowball into a very, very dangerous situation. Nigerians should stand up and begin to properly structure their country. Cast aside sentiment and build their country around strong institutions to counter the unbridled powers of autocracy. Because the country you fail to give form may work in your interest today, but may end up destroying your destiny tomorrow. I am cocksure almost every Nigerian today agrees and wished the past governments particularly the Buhari government had viable institutions to check it in place. A lot of what we are suffering today will have been avoided. Let us not live out lives in perpetual regret as a nation. Always after the fact. |

It's one's belief that Tinubu, as a person, didn't go through the list himself. Some individuals in the PAC, including the AGF, had to smuggle in some names to score sinister motives. It's highly commendable that such mischief didn't escape the scrutiny of ever-alert well-meaning Nigerian citizens. Presidential pardons, although at the discretion of Mr President, mustn't be abused for selfish reasons. Nigerians now await the corrected list of only deserving individuals and not a free-for-all gale of pardons. @hotseat |
