Islie:I warned against the unbridled power of this industrial giant. And I did say again and again. That whoever won the battle to control the markets WILL ENSLAVE EVERYONE ELSE. This is the history of conflicts, of enterprise, of capitalism. Some argue this is the history of Dangote Industries. I also did say that in the ABSENCE of qualitative governance that supervises enterprise with anti-trust laws aimed at preventing a hijack of the market, the unions for instance with insider information and have always stood to oppose what they feel are unfair practices are the only viable thermometer in the downstream industry today. The public SHOULD BE LEVERAGING ON this today. But I guess the public were swayed by the voice of one over the voices of many. Now we may be in a regime of uncertainty. Nothing and no one can stop this man and his refinery from controlling prices and by extension controlling the temperature of the Nigerian economy since energy prices are the greater factor affecting inflation. Good luck to us. |

I pity does defending Dangote that he was fighting for Nigerians against PENGASSAN. At the end those of us that defended PENGASSAN will stand out. That Dangote is helping Nigerians. Help which Nigerians? Like he gave us petrol for a very cheap price or what. Many of you will insult him sooner or later except you are being paid for is propaganda. |

kenex4ever:Is he deceiving us more than Tinubu and APC have deceived us in the last decade? Or do you think that he is deceiving us less ![]() Buhari’ll reduce petrol to N40/L —David-WestPetrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC January 19, 2015 The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70. On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price. But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”. It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel. https://www.thecable.ng/petrol-never-cost-n70-per-litre-says-apc/ anonimi: |

BodyCount:But it is the same government that said HE is an INSTITUTION. Meaning that they have accepted that the man is government. We have put ourselves in a position that America once was. On her knees before JD Rockefeller. Before they woke up and acted to demand government stand up for the people. Today no government in the west no matter how capitalist they are will call an individual or enterprise an institution. Today Europe is at war with Google, Boeing....America is at war with Tiltok for different reasons but the same principle, no one wants to be dominated, no one wants all it's eggs in one basket. It is not secure to have a single producer control the oil industry in Nigeria, and while government dithers with it's own assets and cannot drag others into play, it has to project an image that is has not lost control. |

The Federal government is to be blamed in all these fiasco. What happened to NNPC 20% stake? What happened to Naira for crude or what happened to giving him crude oil and him giving us pms only and it takes the rest while we sell for N200 to Nigerians and shut the borders? Tinubu doesn't mean well for Nigerians. |

Reference:Nigerians do no pay attention When Tinubu first came to power and Emefiele was arrested it was clear Dangote was very scared even offering to sell the refinery There was scrutiny of foreign exchange dealings and financing of the refinery and Dangote was very humble Recently he has been writing open letter to Tinubu and become very bold I believe Dangote will be the number one financier of Tinubu's reelection I expect that we are talking billions of dollars We need to wake up and pay attention |

ZombieDredd:If you were in dangote's shoes, would you sell fuel at a price of N100 just to help the poor? Poland used to subsidse food. There was scarcity from time to time, and poor quality food. Then Poland ended subsides on food. Yes prices went up, but famrers promptly increased production. Today, no scarcity. Dangote is the only refinery in town because anytime over 4 decades when Nigerians were told that subsidy has to go, they always said no. That made it difficult for most holders of refinery licences to get financing for the refineries they wanted to build...which bank will lend to someone who under subsidy will run at a loss. Dangote got financing because the banks knew that if his refinery turned out to be a loss maker, they would simply use AMCON to take over his other industries and pay themselves their money. If you want cheap petrol, remember we tried it for over 40 years, and ended up with repeated fuel scarcity, and four wrecked refineries. And massive corruption eating up the sector. |

Reference:If subsidy had been removed by 2012, or earlier, Dangote refinery would have had competitiors by now, and NNPC refineries would have been working. Plus, nothing goes for cheap. Remember Dangote is getting no funding from government, so he has to pay for everything from the money the refinery makes...that's why prices are going up. If you were dangote, would you sell fuel at N100 per liter, after a production cost of N700-800 per liter...to help the poor? We tried the consumption subsides you love for 40 years, and we lost four refineries, had a lot of wasteage and corruption, and were spending billions subsidisng fuel for people as far as Ghana and Central African republic. At some point, it had to stop I ain't here to defend APC. Or any party. GEJ was the one that woke me up to how damaging subsides are, and yes, I did not back him too. |

MadamExcellency:Exchange rate issues predate emefiele. It's largely because our naira value is dependent on forex revenue from oil, which from 2014 to date has been too too low for our needs (and then stealing comes in to make matters worse). That forced us to take loans, which led to the scenairo where we were using most of our revenue to service loan repayments as at 2022 (yes, and it is apc fault...no diversification at all). Also, most of the funding for dangote refinery came from the banks, local and international, and his own pocket. CBN gave dangote 2.7 bn dollars...which is less than the 3 billion dangote used from his own pocket, and the 6 billion he got from a consortium of banks to fund the refinery |

nairalanda1:No one is talking about subsidies or N100 fuel here That is not what this topic is about. We're are talking about the potentially uncontrollable situation of unsubsidized fuel. The absence of any form of checks now that all social and governance safeties have been removed. We were told by some in government and some on this forum that the trajectory of gasoline prices were downwards if Dangote was not 'harassed by haters'. What happened. |
