Is he the right person to demand an explanation from CAF? What is this nonsensical way of thinking? The explanation has been provided several times, and if the man is too dull to get it, then the Burkina Faso FA should write to CAF the way all right-thinking people would, and relay the info to him. CAF is not a political body, but a footballing one, and it has no relations with governments outside of their respective national footballing authorities. Not all these attention-seeking media stunts that only impress people who won't reason for themselves.

What insolence! I can give 220million answers to that silly question:

1. Nigeria Senior you
2. We have won more CAF than you
3. All your Uranium is not as beneficial to humanity than Dangote Cement alone
4. We don't need footballers carrying service pistols to the Mudial!
5. We are more diplomatic than you
6. You have no regional football Body since you left ECOWAS - In fact, your Federation is not listed!
7. Peter Obi is a resource person to provide you with facts, figures and fantasies to confuse and convince you beyond reasonable reasons.

If after all these you're not convinced, submit one MT of Uranium as facilitation for a cage-football match between your best Team and our CHAIN Team to be played in Kano or Gwoza or Sambisa - we want to confirm your strength! grin grin grin

I don't support evil.
It isn't evil, the rules were there all along, they were just unfortunate to be the affected team.
They should blame Eritrea not CAF

The main reason Nigeria qualified for the World Cup play-offs over Burkina Faso recently was due to a technical rule concerning how the best runners-up were ranked, combined with a superior goal difference in the final adjusted standings.

Here is the breakdown, likely referring to the CAF qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup:

The Rule for Runners-up: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had a rule that, when ranking the second-placed teams across the groups to find the "best four" for the play-offs, the results against the sixth (last-placed) team in each group were discounted (removed). This rule was applied because one group (Group E) had one less team due to Eritrea's withdrawal.

Impact on Burkina Faso: Burkina Faso had accumulated a high number of points (21) in their group. However, six of those points came from their two wins (home and away) against the last-placed team, Djibouti. When these results were removed, Burkina Faso's adjusted total dropped significantly to 15 points with an adjusted goal difference of +6.

Impact on Nigeria: Nigeria finished their group with 17 points. The last-placed team in their group (Zimbabwe) was more competitive, and Nigeria only managed two draws against them. When the results against the last-placed team were removed, Nigeria only lost two points, leaving them with an adjusted total of 15 points.

The Deciding Factor (Goal Difference): After the deductions, both Nigeria and Burkina Faso were level on 15 points. However, Nigeria finished with a superior goal difference (+7 for Nigeria versus +6 for Burkina Faso), which allowed Nigeria to take the final play-off spot among the best runners-up.

In short, Burkina Faso was hurt more by the rule because they took more points from their last-placed opponent than Nigeria did from theirs.

I disagree. A right thinking person will recheck the rules of engagement to see if they support the decision taken. Not play victim and go about asking ridiculous questions

That is a stupid, dubious rule calculated to favour some countries
How do you deduct from second placed teams the points they scored against the weakest teams in the group, but you allow the same points for the teams that topped the groups? Why not treat all the teams equally?
That is super corruption and big disgrace to African football/

The rules if a team pulls off were there before the qualifiers started, CAF didn't amend anything.
Nigeria was just fortunate to be the beneficiary.
In fact, we were lucky that we drew against Zimbabwe, of we had won either of the 2 legs against them, we won't have qualified.

The arithmetics is simple. 54 countries participated in the game. That means 54 - 6 - 12 - 14 - 10 - 3 = 9Ja
Re: Burkina Faso Leader To CAF: How Did We Miss The Playoff? by GanagiBitrus:
Nothing unfair in CAF's action.

Same way Eritrea withdrew from Group E, was same way they withdrew the bottom placed teams from all the groups. So in ranking the 2nd Placed teams, they all played 8games, so no wayo there.

Moreover, all the FA's were timely notified after Eritrea pulled out, of this system of points deduction. Why was the decision not contested then?

The other option would have been to award 6pts & 6goals to all the teams in that group, but that would have given them undue advantage.

The system, to me, was the best way to give a fair ranking to all the 2nd Placed teams.

CAF were right on this. Apart from deducting points gained against the lowest placed sides, goals scored were also deducted. Unfortunately, Burkina Faso scored most of its goals against Djibouti, the lowest placed in their group. We drew twice, 1-1, with Zimbabwe and hence there was no deduction from our goal difference.

The rule is rule, learn to deal with that and stop being ruled by emotion. CAF can't remove any team points withiout a clearly stated rule.

Some people deserve to live but die, some deserve to die but live and prosper, life is dynamic, brutal and sometimes domineering. During the war, the innocent and righteous die for the sins of others, not because they deserve to die but because they are unfortunate to be in the war zone. The same traore should not have been president today withiout taking advantage of others.
Any rule that is not consistent with fair play and equity is dubious rule.
Go figure out and understand the difference between rational common sense and emotion.

Football started from Europe, South America and most rules are fashioned after their rules. How come none of them has this kind of STUPID, dubious rule but only CAF?
Objective and fair minded people would not keep quiet over this injustice, just because a team like Nigeria seems to benefit from it in this instance.

You cunningly omitted Niger Republic from your table.
So how do you rank 2nd-placed Niger that played 8matches with others that played 10matches?

Nothing unfair in CAF's action.

CAF’s decision to discount points earned against the lowest-ranked team in each group — a rule applied after Eritrea’s withdrawal — altered the standings. The adjustment favoured Nigeria, who had only drawn twice with Zimbabwe, the bottom team in their group. The ruling reportedly left Traoré furious and seeking clarity.

CAF stated their reason for taking such action, yet some people are still asking questions.

A rule is a rule, and it has nothing to do with emotion. What about South Africa that FIFA removed 3 points and 3 goals from despite the fact that Lesotho did not summit any complaint.
Please explain to those of us that don't follow as much. What rule was applied here?

The explanation is all over the Internet. Perhaps a translation into French should be provided.

The Rule in determining the Play off spot is clearly spelt out.

Too bad they missed out. I would be miffed too should we suffer the same fate.

I remember when the Head to Head Rule came out and Nigeria lost out to Angola despite scoring more goals but didn't qualify because Angola defeated us 1-0 in Luanda and we drew 1-1 in Kano but we had more GD compared to them.
