IMF is advising for cash transfer?? We are finished! So the money borrowed should be spent to temporarily ease suffering caused by IMF policies then when it is exhausted we will come back to borrow more. What a cycle. |

A resource dependent country, in a mess. And for some, saying the above means i support tinubu..lol. |

IMF cash transfer doesn't work, what works is government giving back to the people by subsidising agriculture, subsidising electricity and fuel, so small businesses survive and thrive, the money government is sharing is stipends, it will keep the poor poorer due to inflation. Fuel prices for Nigerians should not be based on international market prices, the crude oil belongs to the people, they must be able to buy fuel cheap, it's government job to prevent smuggling etc, the government should think and work smartly that is why they are paid so much. By fuel and electricity subsidy the people can start small businesses, which is the backbone of Nigeria's economy, millions of small businesses employing even 3 or 4 people each with it's numerous multiplier effect will take a nation's people out of poverty. IMF is just advising government so they get their loans back and have access to our market, by now our political office holders should be wise. Stop listening to IMF. Nigerian government also need to have trade agreements with nations so we trade based on exchange or using our local currency, using dollars is killing our economy. |

SensualMan:What's your problem? Did Obi not say he will end the fuel subsidy and make the exchange rate be market reflective? It is these two policies of Tinubu that are causing the pain. What's really the difference? It is Buhari that should be condemned. He borrowed too much money and by the time Tinubu got into office, debt servicing was taking 97% of government revenue. Emefiele had also destroyed the foreign exchange market. https://thenationonlineng.net/subsidy-removal-floating-of-naira-disruptive-changes-nigeria-must-go-through-soludo/ |

Eriokanmi:The IMF never forces anyone to borrow from them. It is when governments have been pushed to the wall because no bank is ready to lend to them, they turn to the IMF. The IMF are lenders of last resort. To turn to the IMF therefore indicates economy is insolvent. It means your economy is in ruins. When Tinubu took over, 97% of government. Buhari was simply borrowing money to run the country, Imagine you're earning N1m a month and you're left with 30k after you service your debt. You're borrowing money to make your family live in comfort. Suddenly, all doors to you are closing before lenders are worried you won't be able to repay. You now have to tighten your belt, No more bread and egg in the morning. Family manage yam and palm oil. No more. No more chicken and titus, You make do with shawa or no meat or fish at all. You take public transport to work rather than your car. No more expensive private schools for the kids. They also walk to their new schools. ShenTeh:The IMF comes to fix your ailing economy. They did not force you to borrow from them. It is when countries are totally messed up they turn to the IMF. They are lenders of last resort. Nobody else is willing to lend to you because they have no faith you will pay back. In exchange for a lifeline, you have to end your spendthrift ways and end any unsound economic practices. This will cause a lot of pain. When a country has a huge budget deficit or the economy is in a mess, these are the usual suspects: 1. Consumption subsidies such as petroleum subsidies, food subsidies, energy subsidies and so on. 2, Bloated federal government workforce. 3. An exchange rate that is not market reflective (This was the case throughout Buhari's tenure 4. Money losing state-run companies 5. Excessive regulations and red tape which makes doing business difficult 6. Generous entitlement programs such as pensions. 7. And more A country can have one or more of these problems.
