With the wave of defections going on, very soon all Southern Governors might be in APC.

And if we check very well, almost all Southern governors who are yet to join APC seem amenable to Tinubu’s re-election.

Name them, Gov Adeleke of Osun is not in APC today because of the pushback of APC stalwarts in Osun.

Gov Otti of Abia has never hidden his friendship with Tinubu.

Gov Diri is touted to have resigned from PDP en route APC.

Gov Fubara is only a governor on paper that even if he doesn’t defect cannot do much to harm Tinubu’s gameplan for Rivers.

Only Makinde seems to be on his own and that’s because he wants to answer Presidential candidate in 2027.

My point is, with what is currently happening in the south, the ADC or any opposition coalition giving their ticket to a northerner will just make 2027 Presidential Election an easy ride for Tinubu as it will become a north vs south affair. And with vast of the Middle Belt amenable to Southern sentiments, and with whatever Tinubu would be able to muscle from the rest of the North, he’s sure to win in 2027.

So, if the opposition is truly interested in challenging Tinubu in 2027, their ONLY option is to willingly hand the ticket to Peter Obi.

Why? Because with Obi, the south will be broken; with Obi taking Southeast and Southsouth again.

Again, the Middle Belt and northern Christians are still sold out to Obi.

Then you add whatever influence Atiku and his men can bring for Obi from the core North and you will see Tinubu struggling, if not beaten silly.

This is the only practical, logical and realistic option left for the opposition.

If you think they have a better option, convince us otherwise.

Obviously, there is no reasoning in this write up, else why are you saying Obi should be given ADC ticket when we all know that it's Atiku's hope to the presidency. Let Obi show his strength by slugging it out with other contestants in the primaries, this pattern of handing him a party's ticket without contesting for it is undemocratic. APGA, LP gave him their ticket on a platter and he expects ADC to do likewise, what a tall dream.

I would have gone further to explain why even if he is ADC's ticket bearer, he still won't win but your write up is standing on a faulty expectation, so it's useless doing that.

Have you checked the latest figures from the INEC voters registration data? If all the Southern governors are decamping to the APC like you confirm, what then is Peter Obi's leverage? For context, the North gave Tinubu over 65% of his votes in 2023 with 5.6m votes. The North also gave Atiku close to 7m votes while giving Kwankwaso 1.5m votes. Obi also got over half of his votes from the Northcentral/Middlebelt. Numbers don't lie but you have to do the math.

No one is giving any ticket to anyone. If Obi cannot defeat Atiku in a primary, then he cannot defeat Tinubu in the general election. Or will he demand that Tinubu hands power over to him after demanding for the ticket in the primary? If the South unites behind Tinubu and it's enough to get him reelected, then so be it. Some elements in the north (not all) who have now coalesced into the failing ADC simply wants power back in the north and not a Peter Obi presidency. These same Northern elements will rather back Tinubu for second term than support Peter Obi for anything. They only want Obi in the coalition as a running mate and nothing else. Indeed. If the electorates of the other South feel well carried along under Tinubu's obviously Yorubacentric government, who am I to say otherwise. I have no dog in the fight, but that's not the feelers we've been getting. Tinubu has succeeded though, in getting all their politicians to decamp with the promise of a return ticket and organising all elections on a single day, it remains to be seen how the real voters in the region will react to that or whether their votes shall even be consequential.
