the present crop of soldiers can't execute a clean coup. None can't match the ibb,abacha,ty danjuma and co.

To be frank, there had been a coup.
I have written IELTS Listening a couple of times, you only hear it once: I woke up to hear there had been a coup being broadcast by an officer on Smart TV. When I moved closer to the tv, I realised it was a prerecorded broadcast on YouTube, not live. I thought I didn't hear well.

They're overthrowing a civilian government not a military one. All they need is the approval of key military figures and they'll arrest and detain Tinubu anytime he leaves the villa to another state. And the most senior officer who approved the coup would take over.

But I believe there wasn't any coup. Cos if actually there was a coup, Tinubu would be shivering wherever he is because he won't be able to trust anyone anymore. He wouldn't know who wants to kill him.

How I wish the coup had happened! We need another 30 years of military rule! Let Tinubu go back again to NADECO and resume his fight for “democracy”! After 26 years of democracy, only politicians seem to be better off.The nation is totally worse off than it was 26 years ago.

I am not surprised at all. The last hunger riots were largely from the North. So it is normal for people from that axis to feel the pulse of their peoples who suffer daily. This reality which is the result of the economic hardship must have an effect on the sons and daughters of the North. Someone somewhere will definitely snap and break up. Then the reaction will be seen. I am still of the opinion that there will be massive rebellion of votes to the ruling party in the next elections. Let's just wait and see God help us all.

I don't think anyone called Atiku's name here. Understand that the spectre of coup plot is usually thrown up by unpopular governments to victimise the principled non conformist elements, and more often than not there are efforts made to entrap unsuspecting innocents. Many times, the person who brings up the issue is just setting a trap for the others. May God not allow us fall into the trap of the wicked.

If they dare to succeed with the coup, that is the end of the contraption called Nigeria, other ethnic groups will agitate for referendum within Nigeria, cause Nigeria doesn't belongs to Fulani alone, so they can't dictate our future for us, Fulani just left the presidency after 8 years of disastrous rule and no single al makura staged a coup.

Intelligence officers (whether called NSA staff, SIS, etc.) do intelligence and advice, not command of frontline troops. They collect, analyze, and brief — they don’t typically have the chain-of-command authority to order units into action the way a military commander does.

Real-world attempts to seize power almost always hinge on control of specific military formations and key installations: the units that guard the seat of government, the units that control communications, the air force and armour/heavy units, and the chain of command in army headquarters. That means support from operational military commanders and the units they control — not just intel officers whispering in ears.

Units you named (the presidential guards/Brigade of Guards, the garrison units in the capital, frontline divisions) are important precisely because they are structured, trained and disciplined. Their officers and soldiers have personal loyalties, unit cultures, and legal/disciplinary obligations; they don’t automatically follow any outsider’s instructions.

A coup is not just a local action — it draws legal consequences, domestic instability, and international condemnation. That creates huge risks for anyone involved, and it tends to fracture rather than unify the security services unless support is broad and deeply rooted in the military hierarchy.

Practically: even if some intelligence personnel wanted to help, intelligence does not equal command. Successful putsch attempts historically require high-level military buy-in and the physical control of assets (airfields, communications, presidential residence, TV/radio, key barracks).

Lol. The North made Tinubu president with 5.6m votes. He did not win the South and can still not win the South in 2027. The data shows that he can still not return elected without Northern support. Where is this bragadocio coming from? Is that how you intend to unite the South for a Yoruba president? Tinubu would have had stronger chances equitably distributing projects and appointments across the South than this failed mission you have embarked upon. Time is a gentleman.
