Wale Edun, Nigeria’s minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, has returned to the country after a period abroad, News360 Nigeria reports.

A video circulating on social media captured Edun at Fraser Suites in Abuja, where he was reportedly seen on Sunday.

According to reports, the minister held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation at the hotel, alongside Jumoke Oduwole, the minister for industry, trade, and investment.

Edun was earlier reported to have taken ill and left Abuja for Lagos last Monday via a commercial flight before proceeding abroad to seek medical treatment.

His return appears to mark a resumption of official duties following his recovery.

Last week, Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, confirmed that the minister was indisposed.

As a result of Edun’s health condition, Olayemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), led Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington DC, United States.

Meanwhile, the minister was recently seen at the O’DA Art Gallery booth during the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London.

A video circulating on social media showed the minister addressing guests at the gallery.

Onanuga, who also shared the video on X, confirmed that the minister was in the United Kingdom (UK).

“Finance minister Wale Edun visits an art exhibition in the UK. He is in the country for an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy,” Onanuga wrote on his X page.

Are we sure he's okay now? Or he's rushing back, fearing that he will be asked to resign because of his health?

SR may not be right on some things but they're right about news concerning this government, especially government officials. There is definitely a trusted insider leaking out news to SR.

cheesy cheesy Take the news with a huge pinch of salt. We have two opposing sides capable of huge propaganda. i remember last year or so when a camp of losers swore to fill up our space with fake news, to keep government actively defending and explaining.

The plans and the wishes of the enemies will not stand. They are disappointed and must be having running stomach by now.

They said he's got stroke and can no longer resume duties bla bla bla.i wonder why people always jubilate at bad news.

The minister is human and can break down just like us but to now wish him death just because he's holding a high position is all shades of evil.

I doubt if it was a stroke as reported by some media. A stroke patient will not recover this quick except it's a transient ischemic attack(like a warning stroke in layman's language) which I still doubt.

Any idea when he and his APC boss will return the economy back to the deregulation and privatisation prosperity of PDP’s 16 years instead of this extreme poverty shege of the past decade?

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

Abi we will just continue to suffer like 20 million Lagosians have been waiting for 26 years to see their increasing tax burden manifest not just in IGR and budget growth but also in improving water supply and free education as well as free healthcare ratios? Otherwise, should we conclude that APC is full of corrupt progreThieves who use propaganda to confuse people that they are progressive politicians huh

[quote author=Lanrelagboi post=133655707]Lagos has now crossed the 3 Trillion Naira annual budget mark. Crossed 2 Trillion in 2024.

Memory Lane: the first full-year Lagos State budget (Year 2000) in the 4th Republic was in the region of 40-something billion Naira. And it was described as “unprecedented” back then.

Wale Edun’s APC boss finds pleasure in destroying other people with taxes that he steals instead of paying workers to do what governments are supposed to do- provide services and utilities for everyone!

The eyesore on Bourdillon Road
2nd January 2025

Beyond his neighbours, there is something about the sight of people hanging around a president’s residence that does not speak well of his leadership capabilities. Maybe no one has nudged him to see it, but the impression that spectacle on Bourdillon Road generates is that Tinubu enjoys the sight of suffering humans and thrives in—and through— their poverty.

If all these years, impoverished people hang around you and you remain comfortable enough to keep them just so they can be handed tokens of your large heart, then it means you have a pro-poverty mindset. Such a frame of mind is oriented toward cultivating poverty rather than stimulating abundance.

That is why he could unproblematically relate the story of his “friend” who went from using five Rolls Royce to a far-less valued car and not consider the import of the nonsense he was saying. That spurious account was an indication that this is a man for whom poverty—of others, not himself—is an ideal.

Very true..

Even Peter Obi fell sick and had to go to the UK for treatment and no one used it against him. What most people find odd is OBIDIENTS always attacking anyone in government for falling sick forgetting that anyone can fall sick

Hatred will destroy you.
Hatred for the President has made you become so foolish in your reasoning such that you insult and wish evil on others and pray your Country doesn't do well just because your Candidate didn't win.
Unfortunately for you, your Candidate will not still win 2027.

Well you can call Mr Edun something else because this may be a clone ooo according to una reasoning.
Re: Wale Edun Returns To Nigeria After UK Medical Trip (Video) by epainos: 6:24am On Oct 20, 2025
This is where I disagree with Sowore and his Sahara report despite appreciating his consistency with aluta right from Babangida's era. He should have gotten his fact right that whatever Edun faced had put him down before saying that stroke had knocked him out. Yea, he might have a stroke ans he quickly bounced put of it without rehabilitation. Mehn! He tried sha to know that man had a tough one.

Wale Edum needs to relax oooo. That seat would have been taking by another if he isn't back. That work no dey commot go anywhere. Let him relax. Let him rest well.

Re: Wale Edun Returns To Nigeria After UK Medical Trip (Video) by nairalanda1(m): 6:34am On Oct 20, 2025
Yep, kind of sad our leaders go oversease to treat their ailments.

But it is also the fact that even if he 'went to a Nigerian hospital', it won't be to a government hospital, which are poorly funded because our tax to gdp is too low to raise enough income to make them quality and good enough...it would be to a private hospital where fees are high and the quality is high.

It's popular to believe that 1.8 m bpd of oil revenue is enough for all of us, when in reality it isn't. Corruption also makes matters worse

We expect UK level of health on just 1-2 billion pounds...the same UK that has a higher tax to gdp, has a diversified economy, and spends 274 billion pounds on health in a year. Either we vote in a government that takes us on the road to industrialization and diversification (not APC Please o)...or we face reality.
