Human rights activist and former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday described the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a symbol of Nigeria’s deepening social injustice, warning that public anger could soon erupt into a massive nationwide movement.

Mr Sowore addressed a crowd around the popular Utako Market, Abuja, where the protesters regrouped after the initial disruption of their demonstration near Transcorps Hilton Hotel in the Maitama District on Monday.

I only pity some ignorant people that joined the meaningless protest.

The primary reason why most people are agitating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu is because of what they perceive as the glaring injustice of freeing others like Igboho, holding peace meetings with bandits/terrorists and incentivizing them while Kanu remains incarcerated. The feeling of unfairness is justified.

Holding someone for years now without any proper judgement is gross injustice

I don't like the kanu of a guy, but for God's sake how has the trial lasted this long. And yes SE has every right to feel that this injustice is because kanu is Igbo, especially looking at the VIP treatment Bandits and boko haram who have killed hundreds are getting

This is a good move. All efforts to ensure sanity is restored to the justice system in the country is welcome.

Bravo to Sowore and all the brave citizens whom turned out en masse

Hope this senseless protest won't happen in Lagos because we lagosians still remember how they destroyed Lagos on the orders of Kanu 5 years ago. They can protest all they want in Abuja or the south east but they shouldn't try any nonsense in Lagos.. A word they say is enough for the wise.

To solve Nigeria's problem doesn't require much, just be fair, just and empathetic to others. Carry every tribe and region along and govern with love and all Nigerians will love you and wish you well.
