A pregnant woman, mother and her child on Wednesday night lost their lives alongside six others in a fatal road crash that occurred in the university community of Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State involving a cement-laden truck.


The horrifying accident occurred around 8:00 pm, a few metres from the main gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), and the popular Holy Trinity Church.

The articulated truck, which was in transit through the community from Obajana in Kogi State and allegedly belonging to Dangote Cement, had allegedly suffered brake failure before ramming into traders and other road users in the densely populated area of the community.

Infuriated by the incident, enraged sympathisers blamed that accident on the removal of the barricade earlier mounted to prevent articulated vehicles from accessing the community.

The sympathisers, who thronged the accident scene, lamented that the tragedy has brought back painful memories of previous accidents in the area, which have claimed many lives over the years.


According to one of the sources, “Some boys in the community had been using the barricade erected to extort N10,000 from the truck drivers before allowing them to pass through. The government turned blind eyes.”

While confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Ibitoye, stated eight people lost their lives in the accident.

He said, “The deceased persons include five males, two females and one child. The truck ran into a barricade in front of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, and lost control, resulting in the crash.”

If actions are taken against dangote trucks now, you will start hearing dangote is a national asset, forces want to drag him down, cabals want to finish his business
But the man's trucks kill people on almost daily basis all over the country and we don't ever hear of any convictions or damages. You even hardly see the trucks seized

Yes accident do happen, but if you ask me I will say majority of dangote accidents is because of cheap labour.


Family man will ask for good pay, and will drive more careful because of those at home.

But you see them Carry trucks give all this alamajiris that just need 10k monthly to feed, and they don't care about life.

This Dangote' truck menace is getting out of hand oooooooo. But no politician/government official/ top dignitary will say anything about it. This na why most big men won't want to leave this country because the law favours the rich. Let's ask ourselves a question, this kind rubbish fit happen for UK, USA or Canada? An effective railway system would have reduced the number of these heavy trucks on our roads & also have reduced such tragedies.

This is one incident too many. Dangote and his companies can't just sit back and allow this to fester; people are dying in numbers because of their drivers and trucks. This is unacceptable.

Most people commenting are blaming the Dangote truck/driver but forgot to see that it was the illegal barricade placed there by residents to extort truck drivers that caused this accident.

Until we tell ourselves the bitter truth and confront illegality and criminality at all angles, Nigeria will not be free.

then his should stop them from using his company brand name. Why is it that in such incidents dangote will always bill the driver out.. How many have they taking to court or jail. Let start jailing those drivers so others will learn.

Nigerians should rise against Dangote trucks, they should not be allowed to operate again within two states. Their movement should be restricted withing a state. We have railway network working in all states of federation, Dangote should be using railway network to move his cements to all states within the country

Read and understand clearly, the barricade was there before but they have removed it that is why dangote truck had the accident.

Seems like very soon, Dangote will invent Ai pilot driver

It's always in the southern region, especially the southwest.

If the lawmakers and governments of these regions don't take action, it would only be come worse.
