In the early hours of today, 21st October 2025, about 62 dental students were officially transferred from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to Rivers State University (RSU).

This development comes following the intervention and resolution of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Comr. Obo Emmanuel, who engaged in several deliberations with the school management. With approval from the management, the students most especially those in the C2B (500B) class were permitted to join the 400-level Medicine students at RSU.

While some students expressed joy at the possibility of graduating earlier than their medical counterparts at UNICAL, others were overwhelmed by the emotional weight of having to restart and adjust to a new academic environment.

The students were conveyed this morning in a Delking vehicle, carrying their belongings as they departed the campus.

However, not all students were included in the move. According to the SUG President in a prior meeting, a full class could not be relocated. The 62 transferred students are those officially allowed to go while the others are those fully accredited under the Dentistry department by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

What actually happened? Was their performance poor or they seek transfer because of distance, medical conditions or simply transferring for transferring sake

But the SHODDY article was careful to mention the contribution of the SUG President.

I bet the NONSENSE was written by an unqualified SYCOPHANT somehow elected or appointed into the SUG with ZERO idea about Public Relations.

Why won't the level and quality of education in the country dip when our so called politicians who are supposed to revamp the sector are busy sending their wards to any school abroad.

How about the rest of the students? They should all be moved to other training centres in THE SAME department. This idea of moving dental students to other departments (anatomy, etc) is pure evil....and the affected VICTIMS should sue!!!

Why are they being moved?

If true, then the fault lies solely with the authority of the University of Calabar. Why would they be advertising and admitting students for a dentistry program that has not had full accreditation or facility to run such program?

Unical accepts 145 and RSU accepts 190 and you are still dragging the one that has small shame compared to the Shameless UNICAL accepting 36% score for admission.

I don't blame you nah. You must think serious organizations are not aware of the mediocrity in both schools in terms of recruitment of students and staff. Smh.

..every government hospitals and private hospitals has dentistry department where they can work

I guess this is like an exchange program they are doing cause I don't think studentship can be transferred simply because you exceed your quota
