Do you understand military rank at all? He was Lt Col in 2014, and became brigadier Gen in 2022 - 8 years for 2 senior rank promotion in the military is not small brother. He will be among the next to be promoted to Major Gen.

The younger Obasanjo was shot in North East some years back by BK boys. He was a lieutenant Colonel. Like father like son. A rugged General to the core.

Sometime ago, a political pundit once joked that OBJ and his son took are the only Father and Son with bullets in their buttocks, because they tried running away from the battlefield during their respective careers in the army.. grin

OBJ did not rise to General during the Civil War. He was a Colonel as Commander of the 3rd Marine Commandos.
He became a Brigadier General after the war.
Brigadier General is 4 ranks from a full General.
Nigeria has had less than 7 full Generals.

Domkat Bali retired as Lt. General. His promotion to General was done post retirement after some disagreements with IBB.
I listed less than 7, you listed 13. In a 60 year period with over 2 Million people having been in the Military, there is not much difference between 7 and 13.

Also I was referring to the Army.
For the other services, thats even less than the Army.

How many Air Chief Marshalls and Admirals have we had?

Also to be honest, out of the 13 you listed most of the ones at the start skipped ranks.

Abacha I believe was the first fulltime General that went through every rank and his last promotion I believe was after he ceased power.

So again, I believe the person you referenced was talking about proper career officers.
