huh
But it is clear that everyone there was from different places.
Meaning there is absolutely nothing like "Lagosian" but a confederation of people from different places.

Did Nigerian exist in 1891?

What would an Igbo man be doing in Lagos around that time?

The Almaganation of Nigeria took place in 1914. Meaning no Igbo man had any business in yourba land before then.

All these figures are not reliable
People generally shied away from census in the colonial period

That tells you that change is the only constant thing. A lot has changed since 130 years. Ownership has been changing hands. And it is a good thing.

For those who keep wondering why Yorubas who can trace their identity from other states carry Lagos matter "ontop their head", this is a scientific/historic lesson why, as you can clearly see they have outnumbered the people who now solely claim "Eko" for ages ( which again becomes clearer when you understand that Eko actually means "camp" )

Also, if you understood history, you will know that Ibadan is also another melting pot of Yorubas from everywhere.

Again a lot has changed since almost 150 years ago. The modern Lagos has a very different tribal mix. And the new guys are not playing. They are peacefully, legally but aggressively buying up and taking over and it is a good thing. We encourage and endorse it.

Because they was no Nigeria then, the South East was a country of its own then known as Republic of Biafra with strong economy and trade and no need to come to Lagos, until Nigeria was later created and that Biafran buoyant economy with Sapele and Rivers seaports were destroyed out of envy, their seaport was destroyed to favour Lagos. So they moved to Lagos to use the seaport to import and export their goods, and so doing there developed Lagos to what it is today.

Lagos was a Cosmopolitan city as at 1891. It already had Street lights, tram, train, electricity, buildings, houses, port, bridges etc long before it became Parton Nigeria.

Nigeria was developed through the money generated from Lagos. Fact.
