NovusHomo:This is why you people should read a book and stop regurgitating ignorannt talk points you see online. By 1891 the Brits were yet to conquer the Igbo, and by the time they finally encountered and fought the Igbos for more than 14 years, the British had nothing but admiration for the Igbo people, they marveled at their battle tactics, strategy and indomitable spirit and resilience. The feats the Igbos accomplished against the British were not something a barbarians who live on treetops and walk naked could have accomplished. |

SonOfDSoil01:That's because you failed as a history student. Had it been that you have read a little bit of history you would have known that every major ethnic groups in Nigeria has a documented history of their own, Both orally and written. But I don't blame you though, I blame the Nigerian education system which failed you. |

GeneralOuki:Was it the same teacher who taught Obi that tells you slave trade never happened in Nigeria? |

Aworis you people claimed were the original owners of Lagos were just 9%. See how the census broke down different tribes ut these days one man from Oshogbo will claim omo lagosian and one woman from offa will claim omo lagosian. And all of them will claim to be yoruba |

Nwaikpe:The whitemen did not just see them as equal, they were legit threatened by the speed at which they levelled up in such a short time and began to challenge them in certain aspects. |

thatigboman:Keep shut Awori and Egun in the present day of Apapa, Amowo, Ojo, Alimosho,Badagry are grouped together with the Egun in the statistics. Because you see a separate 9% of Awori doesn't mean there are no others |

Nwaikpe:No. All Yoruba cities have always been cosmopolitan or homogeneous. During the height of the rivalry between Ibadan and ijebu, an Ijebu man became the Olubadan. The king of Lagos Eko is descended from Baba Alagba an ijesa from Osun. |

Lukuluku69:You don't even know what the caste system (Osu) means or what it really is. It has nothing to do with lesser human but rather a dedicated people to the gods. Those people who fell under that caste system in the pre colonial era were feared and sometimes respected and avoided, they were not seen as lesser in anyway. It is because of the advent of Christianity that the osu system began to be seen in such negative light ( children of the gods were now viewed as children of Satan ) but historically, it was a privileged position. Our Nigeria education has failed us when it comes to pre colonial history of the people of Nigeria. |

AqualinaXYZ:Evidently you didn't even read the census results, the Oyo, Awori, Egún, Ijebu, É gba, ijesha, Ekiti etc are what you call yoruba today. The term yoruba is just a collective description of these people who trace their ancestry to Ife. |

Lukuluku69:oh and one more thing, the Europeans, especially the British during the colonial government began to be see the Igbo as equal due to how fast and quickly They levelled up in terms of culture and religion of the British. It got to the point that the Igbo and some south southerners began contesting for positions in the British colonial government and even replacing the Europeans in their quarters. It got to the point that Lugard complain about it. You can read the journals of the British personels of that time if you are in doubt. |

DMCA:The non "yoruba" in that census is less than 8% because even the Tapa Nupe had settled in old Oyo inter married and exchanged culture and language way before the 1200. Even the word yoruba some contend is a Tapa word to describe the inhabitants of old Oyo, the Oshodi family of Lagos and many others across yoruba towns and cities are of Tapa lineage, many warriors who fought under the banner of yoruba kingdoms were Tapa they settled and some even brought their masqueraded that are part of the culture in the towns in which they settled. |

Ojuntana:There are no indigenous Bini in Lagos but rather the royal lineage has some part Bini through marriage, other chieftaincy households may have same. The traditional head of Eko as it was then wgivj was mainly the island parts swore allegiance to the oba of Benin and paid tributes possibly for protection from the Ẹgba and Dahomey tribes. |
