A report by The Cable links pro-Biafra online networks to global spread of Christian genocide in Nigeria narrative.

A new open-source intelligence analysis by TheCable has revealed that social media networks affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) played a key role in amplifying claims of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.

According to the report, data from X (formerly Twitter) between January 1 and October 1, 2025, showed over 165,000 mentions of the topic, reaching an estimated 2.83 billion people, more than twelve times Nigeria’s population. Prominent hashtags included #ChristianGenocide, #LaraLogan, #TruthNigeria, and #BiafraExitNow, with the latter standing out as an unusual part of the conversation.

Confidence MacHarry, Senior Analyst at SBM Intelligence, stated that the “Christian genocide” narrative “was initiated by IPOB as far back as 2016.” The analysis noted that X accounts supporting IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu and advocating Biafra’s secession were among the most active in promoting the narrative online.

The report also highlighted that U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who has called for sanctions against Nigeria, received over $1.8 billion in donations from AIPAC, a pro-Israel lobbying group, a finding that underscores the intersection of international politics, separatist movements, and religious narratives in shaping Nigeria’s global image.

The debate gained renewed attention after the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) rejected comments by Presidential aide Daniel Bwala, accusing him of misrepresenting its position on the issue following his visit to the association’s headquarters in Abuja.

Are Nigerian Politicians deploying media propaganda to cover the truth? Yes.

The US doesn't rely on Nigerian corrupt media propaganda for it's decisions. They've had booths on ground providing aid to many communities in Nigeria for decades, this is a topic they're well grounded on. They won't be swayed by all these media propaganda to play things down.

Look, denying an event because you reject the medium through which it is reported is just escapism. I have a friend who so hates the left that he denies anything reported on CNN / MSNBC etc. So even if CNN reports that the sun rose this morning, he will denounce it as fake news.

Thats what you have to learn. Disliking a news platform is not grounds to simply deny every piece of news proceeding therefrom.

Me I no dey watch CNN, but I do watch CNBC for business news, I watch Al Jazeera for hard news, yes they report killings in Nigeria, never ever heard any mention of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

The truth is that there is terrorism in Nigeria which affects both Christians and Muslims and to the extent that it is mostly in the North it probably affects Muslims more. Nonetheless there are specific areas where it cannot be denied that there have been clear and consistent attacks against Christian communities which have produced large amounts of fatalities. These are mostly in Benue and Plateau States over the last few decades (and currently) as well as in Southern Kaduna. In addition to these there have been striking cases which leap out such as the murder of Deborah. All of these when put together can genuinely create a valid impression of persecution of Christians by terrorist groups - especially when you consider the amount of Churches which have been targeted and burnt. . . .

It doesn't help that the govt has not been seen to help. When recently more than 200 people were killed in Benue it took the pope to get our own president to condescend to visit. Buhari's Media Aide, Femi Adesina infamously told people to surrender their lands to terrorists to save their lives. All in all the picture is not good, even though, like i said, all parties suffer from the terrorism.

Unfortunately, 98% of ESN (Pro Biafra) victims are Christians. Govts (both local and global) must work to exterminate these terrorists (Exterimists,Bandits and IPOB) regardless of their propaganda media/machinery!

100% true, massive insecurity in Nigeria by illiterate bandits, communal clashes over land ownership in Benue & Southern Kaduna, is different from killings over religious beliefs ,

Nigeria is a country were both Christians & Muslims live in the same communities, so let Yankee not make it seem like it is state sanctioned killings against Christians, that I totally disagree, although we do have isolated cases in urban areas of Islamic fanatics. .

More Muslims have been killed by these illiterate bandits than Christians.
