T 72M1 main battle tank
Proven heavy armor. 125 mm smoothbore gun. About 60 km per hour on roads. Composite armor with anti HEAT features. Thermal sights and stabilized fire for accurate shots on the move.

JF 17 Thunder multirole fighter
Reach and precision in one frame. Guided bombs FT 5, LS 6, YC 200 for one target, one clean hit. Heat seekers up close, radar guided missiles at distance. Targeting pod with day, thermal and laser. About Mach 1.6 top speed, about 1,100 km combat radius.

A 29 Super Tucano light attack
Built for counterinsurgency. Twin 12.7 mm wing guns. 70 mm rockets and laser guided rockets. Precision bombs in the 250 and 500 pound class, laser or GPS guided. Sensor turret and head up display keep the pilot ahead. About 500 miles combat radius.

Wing Loong II UAV
Watch and hit platform. GB 2 guided bombs and precision missiles. About 4,000 km range. Up to 20 hours in the air. Sensors find heat, track movement and mark targets. Strikes from safe altitude reduce risk to friendly forces.

OPV 76 offshore patrol vessel
New patrol ship for the Gulf of Guinea. Steel hull, Sealium superstructure, about 76.8 m long, about 1,100 tons. About 28 knots top speed, about 3,000 nautical miles range. 40 mm main gun, 30 mm remote gun, two 12.7 mm mounts. Flight deck for a medium helicopter. Tasks include surveillance, anti surface warfare, search and rescue and coastal protection.

VT 4 main battle tank
Modern armor with punch. 125 mm smoothbore firing APFSDS. About 70 km per hour on road, about 40 off road. Composite armor with ERA, stabilized fire control, shoot and move with confidence.

Ezugwu MRAP
Designed and built in Nigeria. V shaped, blast resistant hull deflects mines and IEDs. Carries up to 12 troops, heavy weapon mounts. About 100 km per hour top speed. High ground clearance and run flat tires keep it rolling after a hit.

NNS Centenary offshore patrol vessel
95 m OPV on frontline patrols since 2015. 76 mm main gun, two 30 mm and two 20 mm guns. TR47 fire control radar, SR2410C 3D radar. About 20 days endurance, about 3,000 nautical miles at 14 knots. Flight deck and hangar for a helicopter, RHIBs for boarding.

Mi 35M attack helicopter
Heavy and rugged. 30 mm cannon, guided rockets, air to ground missiles. About 310 km per hour top speed. About three hours endurance. Armor protects crew and systems. Can carry up to eight troops in addition to the flight crew.

You didn't add the Palmaria 155mm self propelled howitzer this is the buggist artillery we have.

What’s the point of buying all this lethal hardwares when new terror groups keep springing up under different names and tearing the country apart? I’d rather salute the soldiers who pay the ultimate price than glorify weapons that sit idle until one commander gives the order. It’s the same nonsense as insisting the NIN solves everything when laws and systems still make stolen phones hard to track and criminals hard to catch, let them fix the broken institutions and the terrorists won’t be so hard to combat.

Lies lies and so much damn lies. None of those weapons are top of the range in anyway. Nigeria and the author of this article is a joke if he thinks any of what he listed above makes Nigeria's armed forces deadly in any way.

The Mi-35m which is a russian built combat helicopter was formerly regarded as a capable platform until mere 500 dollar drones that Ukraine cobbled together, made mincemeat of it. The Mi-35m costs within the range of 8 million-12 million dollars.

The T-72 is a joke of immense proportions with its terrible design that basically turns it into a cookbox that cooks off when hit due to how its shells are stored. They've not fared too well in Ukraine and Russia has all but abandoned them.

The J-17 thunder is a semi decent Chinese made fighter jet that as recently as a couple of months back saw action when Pakistan and India went at it. Pakistan did say that it used the J-17 to score direct air to air kills against a couple of Western made fighter jets operated by India. India and the West didn't refute that so it stands to say that the J-17 is an attack platform that will get the enemy to sit up.

Computer simulations conducted by the US puts the J-17 a step or two ahead of A and B block F-16s. Though there is no realistic data on how both platforms will operate when faced against each other in the real world.

If Nigeria had any where near decent leadership, we could be needling the US for a couple of Apaches and export variants of the M1 Abrams tanks. Those are game changing weapon platforms that the US has provided to Egypt and South Africa.

We call ourselves the giant of Africa but all we have is a catapult compared to what South Africa and Egypt have. Na mouth we get. Workings we no fit show.

every piece of equipment aside the Mi-35M and tanks were produced within the last 1 decade. they are pretty much modern. the tanks and Mi-35M are still in production till date

Foreign policy dictates defense policy, and we adopt a foreign policy of non-alignment which means conservative rather than expansive military posture.

Now get this: we are stronger than anyone who is positioned to be a threat within the region and those that are much stronger than us outside the region are our friends.

This is so laughable. I am not impressed at all. Not looking down on my country in any way - God forbid! We can have one of the best military services in the world if only we have a functional leadership that understands the importance of a strong military and how having one can win us the respect of other nations. However, I strongly doubt that our current crop of leaders are ready for any serious business other than lining their pockets.
