IPOB is the South Eastern version of Boko Haram up North.

Boko Haram has since given birth to ISWAP, Lakurawa, kidnappers, bandits, cattle rustlers etc.

Just as IPOB may not be entirely responsible for all the crimes in the SE, so also Boko Haram isn't responsible for all the criminal activities up North.

Both are certified terrorists organizations and therefore culpable and should be held liable for all the criminal activities in their geopolitical regions.

@hotseat
Beautifully put.
It's unfortunate that most of the victims would prefer to run with Odinkalu's new theory. It's natural for them to blame anything and anyone else but themselves. Let's blame Buhari or herdsmen or UNKNOWN gunmen or now UNKNOWN cults/politicians. It's well.

That was a sarcastic quip, which he justified by stating that he was disinclined to expound on Nigerian law as the Nigerian state itself does not appear to honor its own laws.
Another perspective though. Thanks for your take!

no mind them, that's why they are always quick to strike resemblance with Boko Haram, whenever you remind them of what is happening in their zones. They make you understand that they are not performing optimally to the level of Boko Haram and bandits

This is one thing about the Southeasterners that I don't like, they are always ready to give excuses for the terrible acts being carried out by IPOB because they are loyal to the group and always find ways to excuse them from their evil acts, the Southeasterners are responsible for the insecurity currently plaguing their region and it's a shame that they are also behaving the same way the north behaved in the early days of Boko Haram during the goodluck Jonathan era.
Anyone that fails to blame a terrorist group that is commiting acts of evil in their land is also a terrorist.

The insecurity in the south east is a political gang up against kalu and ipob by those that is benefiting from the system.

If you add these two names without adding federal Government directed by Buhari , then you have not done the right thing but avoiding the truth...

IPOB only uses sticks to protest, but Python dance and all manner of dancers came and arrested their Youths , some never returned , some returned , some where killed by the same Security that should protect them.....in the same vein, IGBOS where reminded about the genocide of 1964, and all you did then was to laugh and cheer up as Buhari was unveiling his words against a tribe that is the same South with you....

What was your corrections or words to Buhari then huh NOTHING!!!!!!!

So where do you fall in herehuh?

He is not serious. Confused fellow who should never be taken serious. This is why politicians don't have any regard for people like him.

He speaks from both sides of his mouth.

This is his way he planned to worm his way into proscribed IPOB's embrace and escape the death threats he alleged to be receiving, abi?
I understand ur pain his revelation doesn't suit into ur usual narratives. He is in a more better position to know exactly the root causes of the current insecurity in igboland because of the extensive research he has done on the issue and not igbo haters like you that just sit in the comfort of ur homes and be posting whatever narratives you feel like posting on social media without even being on ground in the south east.

You are right. IPOB set the tone. But they are not completely responsible for the carnage that is currently going on in the entire region. That’s the point Odinkalu is making.

I watched the interview and Odinkalu didn’t exonerate IPOB but only trying to educate those who attribute every incident in the region to IPOB.

IPOB would never kidnap Igbos and demand ransom; and sometimes kill victims after ransom has been paid.
iPob and BLA kidnapped the acting chairman of ideato north LGA.burnt his house.took his 2 cars and beheaded him after collecting #6m ransom.they repainted his official Toyota hilux to black with biafra liberation army written boldly in yellow on side .oga say what you know

Human rights lawyer and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has said that politically sponsored cult groups, not the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, are the main drivers of insecurity in the South-East.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Odinkalu acknowledged that the separatist movement contributes to the insecurity in the region.

However, he described it as “ridiculous” to attribute every violent incident in the region to IPOB.

“Let me tell you this: the biggest single issue, in security terms, confronting the South-East, in my estimation, based on the work I have done on this, is, I regret to disappoint you, not IPOB, it is one word: cults, financed by politicians.

“All right? Now, the cults are the biggest single issue, and you don’t have a clue how terrible the problem of cults in the South-East is at this particular time.”

Odinkalu noted that the menace of cultism in the region has reached alarming levels, adding that political sponsorship has emboldened these groups and intensified insecurity. The ex-NHRC chairman maintained that there might be a connection between cultism and IPOB, but he stated that “cults financed by politicians, that is the biggest single security challenge confronting the South-East at this time.”

IPOB, he argued, cannot be sustained in certain communities in the South-East, which according to him renders the argument that the group is solely responsible for the insecurity in the five states exaggerated.

“Unquestionably, there is an IPOB issue, but the IPOB issue is overblown,” he said.

Odinkalu’s remarks come amid renewed attacks on security posts, police officers, and residents in parts of the South-East—incidents that have frequently been blamed on IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network.

He urged security agencies and policymakers to focus more on tackling politically motivated violence and the proliferation of cult groups, which he described as the “biggest single security challenge” confronting the region today.

There are too many contradictions in Chidi Odinkalu's comments. He's just throwing the word "cult" around loosely. "Gang-related" attacks in neighborhoods or campuses which he incorrectly calls "cults" have existed in the past, BUT he has to prove that it's some of the SE politicians doing this.

NOW, there's STRONG evidence that the main secessionist group is involved in a lot of these attacks because they like to use a lot of subterfuge and tell LIES a lot to cover up their activities and there are several online videos I have personally seen and saved on my mobile devices showing Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa and other paid male and female ipob members in Europe calling for violence and assassinations of many security officials and their own fellow Ibos who they call saboteurs or "sabos." The "BBC Global Disinformation Team" investigative video report of 2022 (which is still online via the BBC Website) ALSO EXPOSED these heinous activities and disinformation of Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa and the rest ipob.

Nnamdi Kanu in particular notoriously called for the burning of strategic buildings in locations around Lagos State on a live pirate radio broadcast from London during the EndSARS protests on October 20 2020 (Ohaneze Ndigbo quickly condemned Nnamdi Kanu in the Guardian and Vanguard for trying to trigger ethnic suspicions against Ibos in Lagos with that IRRESPONSIBLE pirate radio broadcast from London), and he accepted that he was the one that made those incendiary radio comments when the videos were tendered in court this year. If Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (and others such as Wike) is eventually summoned to appear in court, he should be well armed with these FACTS to speed up the court trial so that Nnamdi can serve his full jail terms just like Simon Ekpa is doing and relative peace can be fully restored to the SE. Gangs in the SE and around Nigeria too must be dealt with firmly to tame urban and rural neighborhood violence. Period.

@hotseat
Let me help you Mallam.... We understand your fears and strategies, now let me separate them for you.

Your fears is that IPOB is a dangerous and fierce obstacle in position to neutralize and quench your plan for Jihad campaign in our region through terrorism activities which is already taking positive effects within Southwest region, and some fools still describe it as political and mere criminal conflict, North is already your ground base.

Now, your strategy is to use media propaganda and fallacious narrative to drive your war against your only obstacle in the minds of the people and media atmosphere just as you're doing right now, in Islam you call such mechanism 'Taquia' we know all of that.

But let me update your fears, IPOB/ESN and all the security wings within IPOB are all made up of existing beings and are all still very much around. What you don't know remain bigger than you. Nnamdi Kanu once said and I quote: Nobody can quench the existence of IPOB no matter how hard they try, IPOB have come to stay, End of quote. It's just a matter of time, you will understand the IDF version from this end and against you terrorists.

Why are you people so worried about South East when you own zone is worse. The South East was judged to be the second safest place in Nigeria in 2023, and the safest in 2024. Why are you people more interested in a place safer than your place?
