How many people earn up to 150k self not to talk about 1.5m self . The real issue is labour value . We do not value labour here in Nigeria that's just it

Today I cooked a pot of stew that will last for 2 weeks

Tomatoes $6
Pepper $1
Red bell pepper $2
Onions $3
Beef $10
Whole chicken $6
Oil $3
Total $31.

25kg Bag of rice $10
Beans $20
Two slice big bread $4
Semo big size $15
Total $49

$49 + $31 = $80

I have not even spent up to $100 but I have food enough for the two weeks.

Well, not a fan of back and forth and it seems we've hit a road block. If you think I'm the one that started the 98% talk. Lol

The very first post I quoted had this 5) 98% wish they could come back

That's where the whole convo started from but don't worry man. Have a nice day chief.
The post I responded to started the 98% issue. You then jumped into a conversation that had nothing to do with you.

Maybe next time stay out of other people’s conversations so you don’t get caught up in the crossfire.

Ure comparison is totally absurd. u only have the luxury of comparing this nonesense because naira has been devalued to $1 to 1.5k

Will u have compared this nonesense during Jonathan's time? where the exchange rate was $1 to N200 and see where it lands u?

This goes to tell u, that u are comparing the wrong things. Depending on what ure trying to prove anyway. undecided

Please stop making baseless comparisons. Nobody earns $1000 per month in America because it's even below the minimum wage. It's not like Nigeria where companies still pay #50k per month whereas the minimum wage is #70k.
Don't mind the APC apologists!

The person pulling a salary of N1.5 million in Nigeria, how much will he or she earn in a similar role in the US?

A Bank Manager, Medical Director, or Project Manager in Nigeria might earn about that amount here. Would someone in the same position earn less than USD 300,000 per year in the US?

These people should stop the buffoonery and self-consolation in the name of rational thinking. There's nothing rational about this.

this is trăsh.

In the US they can comfortably earn $1000

How many people in Nigeria earn 1million a month to make this a valid conversation?

The lesser paid workers receive 1000 dollars, let's compare this with our lesser paid workers who earn 30k to 70k per month in Nigeria.

Then we can discuss who lives better between the two lower class.

Comparing a low class worker in the US with the upper class earner in Nigeria and then asking who lives better is both mischievous and wicked.

Compare the two lower class and the two upper class and you'll be ready for discussion.

lol he’s not coming back because he earns better

Also 2m for a self on is a year that’s about 1 month salary

Meanwhile that 1k dollars is just your rent for a month in US

1,000 dollars in the US is tantamount to a death sentence.

I don't know about what 1.5m can do in today's Nigeria but I guess you will be fine.

I hate to see this kind of comparisons, less than 80% of Nigeria population earn below 200k you are here making comparisons to US where an average worker earn a thousand dollars upwards, the government should focus on making the country better for citizens to strive instead of making daily comparisons with countries economy’s that are better than Nigeria

Peace of mind is zero in Nigeria

Public infrastructure and amenities is zero in Nigeria.

The moment you started earning more in Nigeria, the more risky it becomes sef because police and army are criminals

My brother and his wife earns a combined gross of a few thousands above $300k/annum besides RSU and they are mid level and entry level staff. To earn that in Nigeria, you have to be in the senior management cadre in only a few specific industries.

In essence, there's a tendency to earn better both absolutely and relatively in the west.

mercysamuelson:
I'm guessing that this is just an unreal scenario because you cannot be in the US and he earning $1k per month. America is a country built on laws - Former President Obama remind Americans of that every time - and that sum is not even up to the minimum wage.
OredoPikin2:
The monthly minimum wage in US is $1500.
The monthly minimum wage in Nigeria is #70000
Bankowner:
But in the U.S., $1,000 barely covers groceries and gas. It’s roughly $6.50 an hour, far below the federal minimum wage.
smartkester:
Op, firstly, even Minimum wage in the US is more than 1,000 dollars monthly. That should tell you no one earns 1,000 monthly in the US. Your comparison falls flat already
Na lie. After taxes minimum wage is less than $1000. See below

$1000 in the US will live a better life

For 1000 USD you can eat whatever food you like. A can of coke is just $1.
You have to first find apartment that costs only $800 per month.
You'll live much better in Naija with N1.5m

Enough of these noise and comparisons.

If the conditions are better in Nigeria, the folks abroad will return. You don’t need to sweet talk them into returning.

Less than 2% of folks who left have returned, the remaining 98% who stayed back have their reasons. The government of the day should quit these japa propaganda and focus on making Nigeria work for Nigerians
This is almost exactly like asking why those living under bridge in Lagos don't move back to the village

You haven’t told people how much you pay for rent, heating or AC, transport. If you earn $1000 a month in America you are for all intents no different from someone earning N100k a month in Nigeria. You are both below the poverty line and both struggling.

In fact you are likely worse than the person in Nigeria because over there you will have no one to turn to for urgent 5k.

DoTheNeedful:
I have been living in the US for almost a decade, and I can tell you that value of $1,000 in the US is less than 90k in Nigeria.

It is surprising that many of you, including graduates, don't understand that you can't just arbitrarily convert dollars or pounds to naira in this context.

You cannot start a family anywhere in the US with $1, 000. You would need at least a job that pays you $6,000 per month to think of marriage. An ideal monthly salary would be around $10,000.

With 1.5 million in Nigeria, you can afford to marry a jobless partner, support two children, and own a decent car.

You could eat out in Nigeria with 2k, but eating out in the US would cost you around 25 dollars (35k). I get a haircut every month for $50 (75k) in the US. In Nigeria, I could get the same haircut for around 1k.

If you have a baby in the US, you would need to spend around $2,000 (3 million) per month on day care. In Nigeria, you would pay maybe 50k.

I laugh each time I see some posts on social media converting people's salary in UK/US/CA to naira, thinking the naira equivalent of those figures have the same impact in those countries. It is unfortunate that some people have such mentality.

That being said, if you manage to have some savings in places like US and you bring such to Nigeria, you could tie up a project.
Very detailed.
