The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has described as very embarrassing the resignation of Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Recall that the governor was chairing the PDP zoning committee for the elective national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, when he quit the party.

Speaking during a media chat on Friday in Abuja, Wike said Diri’s decision to leave the PDP was disappointing.

“It is very embarrassing. The governor was the chairman of the convention committee. Diri was the chairman of the zoning committee. Even though I knew from the beginning that they were all playing games,” he said.

How many people can Tinubu eventually handover tickets to? He's obviously prioritising decampees over long-term loyalists. All the erstwhile members of APC in Enugu have decamped to the ADC and these are just early days. In the end, the old members will work against the party while the supporters of the new party are still not totally convinced to work for Tinubu. There will be internal sabotage from those who will not be bold enough to decamp.

When I hear people complain of Wike having destroyed the PDP and therefore decided to leave the party for him, I shake my head in disbelief.

Instead of laying the blame at the doorstep of the party for allowing a single individual to "destroy" their party and for being too weak to suspend or outrightly expel him, sounds funny and an admittance of failure of the party as an entity.

Most people are not taking into account the role of Atiku in the crisis that rocked the party from the beginning.

Atiku, as a Northern candidate, also insisted on having the secretary of the party to equally come from the North.

Again, he (Atiku) refused to accept zoning the presidential ticket to the South and bulldozed his way to becoming the PDP flag bearer in the 2023 presidential election.

Wike would have none of that and did everything to sabotage Atiku which equally affected the fortunes of the party as a whole.

The PDP therefore dug its own grave for failing to act when it mattered most.
