Ttalk:Lagos belong to the Igbos and other Nigerians, people from Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Ilorin, Ogun, and Ekiti should go and develop their states and leave Lagos alone. If Lagos isn't your United States and London then why do all southwest states want to die on top of small Lagos? ![]()

forgiveness:The first Yorubas in Lagos were the descendants of Olokun Seniade, they lived on an island on the Atlantic ocean. They lost a chunk of their land and migrated to the west coast, Lagos being one of those coast. Aworis came next through Olofin Ogunfunminire, they are called Awori. There were also Brazillian returnees mostly Yorubas one was Darocha, Nigeria's first millionaire, he was a Yoruba man. There are also Yorubas from Sierra Leone, they are called Kooruma. Tapa people came in true Balogun Oshodi Tapa. The Eguns are originally from Popo, the colonial map cut them into Lagos. There are also Oyo, Egba and Ijebus who were brought in by trades. Ko je bi o se je. |

We warned you for years but you heaped more insults on us with every warning

7lives:Omo re bi Iyan moba Yorubas were settled in moba Lagos well before the 9th Century before Oduduwa whose Son Oranmiyan established the Benin Throne and Kingdom was Born They are currently classified with the Awori people but we're in Lagos many Centuries earlier In the 10th Century when the first Owa Obokun of Ijesha fetched from the Lagos Sea Water to cure Oduduwa's blindness there were already moba Yorubas. In Lagos and he spent 2 months with them The idol Worshippers Olokun diety was actually a moba King called Seniade that ruled from an Island off the coast of Lagos that has now been Submerged by the Sea. The moba built the UNESCO world heritage 9th Century eredo Wall near Ijebu and their kingdom included many Islands off the Coast of Lagos They have now been included with the Awori people but we're actually the Original Inhabitants of Lagos and were in Lagos Centuries before Oduduwa was Born The Oore of Otun Ekiti migrated from moba in Lagos and is a direct descendant of Seniade one of the Moba kings now deified as Olokun by Traditional Worshippers moba is near Victoria Island and their Crown predates Oduduwa's own Yorubas forefathers might not have been great at Technology but God Almighty definitely gave them Prodigious History Art and Music All Glory be to God Almighty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM5oqM_7h54?si=3NR26xTVzzJIa7K9 |

Ojuntana:The period in question wasn’t colonial! At that time the areas concerned were owned and governed by the Royal Niger Company! They sold our forefathers estate to Queen Victorias’ gov’t around 1900, and amalgamated our black ass with the Northern Region in 1914! So at the time of the census in question, no one from the east had any compelling reason to be in Lagos! |

Christistruth03:Care to explain how you’re claiming Lagos as belonging to you as a Yoruba man, but the oyel and gas in the east and Niger delta belongs to all of us!? Make that make sense! |

IGBOPROMISE1:Ondo get Oil and it went to FG too. Apart from that FG owes Lagos 150 years of Port and Seme border duties and Taxes . Meanwhile You had no problem at all with your own fathers that fully claimed Enugu and umuahia for themselves though they both were founded and built by Lord Lugard and the British |

SonOfDSoil01:You are not from Lagos state, like Eriokanmi, he's a fully known Lagosian, but you who his father came from Oko Ose in ilorin claiming Lagos because he has stayed in Lagos for decades, dude it's never going to work, i think it's high time to accept the truth and stop deceiving yourself, Lagos does not belong to Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Ekiti states, develop your states and leave Lagos alone.

Christistruth03:Your ‘argument’ is evasive, selective and full of deceit! You’re yet to tell us how or why Ondo oyel (which i gather is domiciled wholly or mainly in the Ijaw part of the state) is owned and administered by the federal gov’t for all to share, yet you somehow figured out that Lagos belongs to Yoruba, even from as far afield as Irajibi, and should be controlled solely by una! What part of the Nigerian constitution gave you that idea!? It seems to me that you’re making up the rules as you go along, depending on how it falls in line with your economic and political agenda! Luckily for you, your godfather is now presiding over affairs in Nigeria! Go tell him to authorise payment of 150 years of port and Seme border duties and taxes owed Lagos state gov’t! And while at it, also tell him to refund south-east and south-south billions of dollars in lieu of our time, effort and resources disproportionately channelled into developing Lagos from 1960 right up till when the federal capital moved to Abuja! Last i checked, you haven’t refunded shishi before wanting to claim Lagos all to yourselves! I deliberately left out the north from the expected financial windfall coming to the south-east and south-south because they were complicit in setting up the structure and political-economy that disproportionately favoured Lagos/south-west and the north-west over others both economically and politically! |

Nwaikpe:Shifting the goal post. No igbo cares about Lagos or who owns it. Their only concern is that when they buy any piece of land keep off from it. But Eko is indigenous people of Lagos. Any osun, omotosho, Ogun, Ibadan, Ekiti and other Yorubas listing covetting and claiming Lagos are only but a thieves. If you want Lagos buy a land there. Get it to your skull. |

IGBOPROMISE1:Ilaje are not Ijaws It is your own Argument that is full of deception . Why did your own fathers claim Enugu and Umuahia that was founded and built by Lord Lugard and the British ? Lagos was already 400 years old and busiest port in West Africa long before the British arrived in 1851 Lagos was already booooooommmmmmiiiiiiiinnnnggggg Long before Nigeria found Oil

jaxxy:What you wrote right ABOVE is totally FALSE. I know this because I've got strong family ties to Lagos Island and I know the history very well at least since the early 1980s. The "Eko" people being refered to in that 1891 census of Lagos Island, NOT the whole of what is now the entire Lagos State are the Awori subgroup of Yoruba descent from Isale Eko. The other Yoruba subgroups living on Lagos Island as of the 1891 census are the other Aworis who came from Awori towns outside Lagos Island, the Egbas, the Ekitis, the Ijesas, the Ijebus, the Oyos, the Ilorins, etc. The Bini elements were a minority and got absorbed into the larger Eko (Aworis) people, BUT the Lagos Island landowners were the indigenous Ekos (Aworis). The Eko subgroup of the Yorubas are part of the larger indigenous Awori people whose ancestral lands extend from Lagos State right into Ota and environs in Ogun State. The Ekos (Aworis) and the their kith and kin in Ogun State are the direct descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire an Ile Ife Prince who migrated from Ife in Osun State to what is now Iddo Island and Lagos Island via Isheri over 700 years ago under the guidance of Ifa while carrying a sacrificial plate or "Awo" (hence the name AWO... AWORI) meaning the sacrificial plate was supposed to sink in the river or water as a sign for him to settle at a precise location. |

Ecomfreecourse:Many of you sound so highly uninformed on the subject matter of this thread and on the history of the indigenous Yorubas of Lagos Island (Isale Eko) and the Yorubas of the larger Lagos State and their ancestral origins in Osun State. For your information, Olofin Ogunfunminire who was an Ile Ife Prince is the direct ancestor of the indigenous Aworis (otherwise called Ekos of Lagos Island) and ALSO of the Aworis in Ota and contiguous areas in Ogun State. Olofin Ogunfunminire migrated over 700 years ago under IFA's guidance and a sacrificial plate from what is now called Ile Ife in OSUN State just like many Yoruba communities and Yoruba SUB-ETHNIC groups such as the Oyos, the Aworis and Ijebus of Lagos and Ogun States, the Ijesas, the Ekitis, the Egbas, the Ilajes, the Ikales, the Usen people of Edo State, the Okuns, Igbominas, Ondos, etc, over the centuries. Therefore the indigenous Yorubas (Aworis, Ijebus, etc) of Lagos State are ancestrally related to Osun State and to one another. So, what's the fuss about someone (now President 'Bola Tinubu) who was born on Lagos Island BUT has his biological mother's roots in Osun State? |

Nwaikpe:You sound so highly ill-educated with your bolded comments. STOP the deliberate distortions of other people's cultures and well-documented histories passed down through books written centuries back and from the oral traditions. Second, Eko is the shortened form of "Ereko" meaning "pepper farm" was already named by the indigenous long before the first Portuguese explorers arrived that arrear of Yorubaland to refer to it as Lagos (named after the Lagos in Portugal). Third, for your information the following indigenous Yoruba people are riverine and lagoon dwellers such as the Aworis of Lagos and Ogun States, the Ijebu people Lagos State from Epe LGA, Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Ikorodu LGA right into the Ijebu Waterside area of Ogun State, and the Ilaje folks of the crude oil and gas-rich ILAJE LGA of Ondo State are the great fishermen and swimmers of the Yoruba people because they live near the rivers, lagoons, and Atlantic Ocean. |
| Re: The Results Of The 1891 Census Of Lagos Indigenes by Konquest: 6:56am On Oct 26, 2025 |
OredoPikin2:The EKO people of Isale Eko (Lagos Island) being refered to in the 1891 census results of Lagos Island are the Awori subgroup of Yorubas who are the original indigenes of Lagos Island (or Isale Eko which is the original Yoruba name). As a man who has direct maternal roots on Lagos Island, I can tell you that historically, Eko does NOT mean any "war camp" but EKO is just the shortened Yoruba word from EREKO meaning "pepper farm" BECAUSE the ancestor of the indigenous Awori people of Lagos and Ogun States, Olofin Ogunfunminire was a Prince of Ile Ife who migrated over 700 years ago from Ile Ife to what is now Lagos Island and Iddo Island via Isheri and shared the lands of Eko (Lagos Island) for farming and settlement among his biological children. The famous White Cap Chiefs of Lagos Island (the IDEJOS or White Cap Chiefs) are the direct descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire and they are the real land owners NOT even the current Oba of Eko (Eleko of Eko) whose current palace is built on leased land belonging to Chief Aromire and his descendants. |
