morikee:Try disabling Single SSID and see if it helps. When this is enabled, 2.4GHz and 5.0,GHz sometimes get to toggle between each especially when the network is bad. Disable and connect to either one of them. |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by morikee: 8:17am On Oct 27, 2025 |
Rokynwastar:I no dey use Single SSID i always split between 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz so i only use 2.4Ghz if I'm far away |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by NSEstudent: 9:45am On Oct 27, 2025 |
morikee:I think what the single SSID means is that devices which are capable of connecting via 5GHz connect to it while others who only connect to 2.GHz also connect to that one. That's how I use my X25 currently. I don't think it has any advantage other than having a uniform name for the wifi signal. Perhaps it might be that it switches automatically to 2.4GHz if a connected and compatible device moves farther away from the router. If it makes a router malfunction, that's absurd as well. But it's not uncommon for some settings to trigger bugs in poorly written software. |

morikee:Oh yeah. This was me last week. New ZTE. wanted to run mad. Got the solution here. Log into the IDU web ui(192.168.18.1), go to wifi settings and disable single SSID. |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by morikee: 10:07am On Oct 27, 2025 |
NSEstudent:No the 2.4Ghz has longer range but it's slower while the 5Ghz is shorter range but has faster bandwidth and more immune to interference from other devices |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by NSEstudent: 10:33am On Oct 27, 2025 |
morikee:Yes. That's why I assumed they can connect automatically to 2.4 when devices move away from the source. |

I am giving up on this ODU palava. 3rd day of visiting the airtel office and the nimc portal is down. I think I will just continue using my hertz 6 router |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by morikee: 11:15am On Oct 27, 2025 |
NSEstudent:It can it usually does that as long as you set it to connect automatically when in range |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by NSEstudent: 11:26am On Oct 27, 2025 |
morikee:Yes. So ordinarily that should be a good feature, but it is purported to cause problems and needs to be disabled. |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by NSEstudent: 11:30am On Oct 27, 2025 |
Gshems:You may have to try another centre. I don't believe there's nowhere the thing is working. Also, you can collect contacts from that centre and frequently call to check if it's going so that you can go do yours. |

Day 11 of my ODU ZTE router not working. Nobody seems to know what’s wrong, Airtel said my line has been fixed. Thinking I just buy another one because MTN is draining data and I can’t afford Starlink yet. |

Him2025:Call Airtel Customer Service via 300 and ask to talk to their supervisor. Explain to them and they'll either resolve it or give you a timeframe for resolution. Cheers |

Gshems:Lol, rookie numbers bro. I went there 6 times before I had my issues resolved. On 3 different occasions, it was nimc portal being down. The 6th day, when nimc went down, I vowed that if I left without resolving my problems, I'll cut my losses and move on with life. A 25k router isn't worth the stress. Luckily for me, nimc went through when other people's were failing. Just be patient and make sure you go early in the morning because nimc portal gets overloaded during the day. |

Him2025:I believe you're using the esim. That shit can be frustrating. Yesterday, I turned it on after two days of being away, "no Internet access" was what I got. Fortunately for me, I have the physical sim subbed too and I put it in and it worked well. Hours later, I removed the physical sim and the esim started working again. If you have access to the sim port, put a sim card innit while it's on and it will immediately trigger off the esim mode. After a while, remove the simcard let the esim toggle back on. Also try messing around with the "sim switch feature". |

akinremedy:I was going to suggest this. It might be the last resort. Carry the thing to their office. They should replace it if that one is defective as it seems. |

Rokynwastar:That router is not 25K o. You fit google ZTE G5F price. |

NSEstudent:To be honest, I don't know how they're giving out these devices out at the price they are. Though I understand the idea is to make up for the loss via subscription. And I also think, since they buy them in their thousands, they also get great discounts. |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by Him2025: 1:44pm On Oct 27, 2025 |
Rokynwastar:Yeah I am using the ESIM version. I have toggled the sim switch option multiple times and it didn’t work. Will try inserting a physical sim to force it. Funny enough calls and text to the ESIM goes through but data is where the problem lies. If everything fails today including asking random people to call customer care, I’m taking it back there tomorrow morning. |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by NSEstudent: 3:17pm On Oct 27, 2025 |
dustmalik:Yes, they will be getting massive discounts. You are also right about them making up from subs. The competition is stiff. If they don't get their network to be stable, other ISPs will snatch their customers and they will make losses. |

NSEstudent:Yes, I am monitoring the both of them for my next sub. |
| Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by Mykcool(m): 4:43pm On Oct 27, 2025 |
fuckboys:hold onto it o! The main reason I bought my current router was because it made no sense spending that much for a 5G router while subscribing for 20/50mbps |

saint2ace:This is what I hv found out so far. TL;DR The ZTE is a newer and latest technology relative to the ZLT device. Has more features. However might have sacrificed the WiFi 6 in the ZLT IDU for a WiFi 5 in the ZTE IDU It all depends on ones choice/personal preferences and what you are looking for in a router. The ZTE G5F is an advanced 5G Outdoor Unit (ODU) developed by ZTE, which has been rebranded and marketed by telecommunications provider Airtel for its SmartConnect Outdoor Unit in Nigeria. It is designed to capture a stronger, more stable 5G signal from outside and convert it into high-speed Wi-Fi for your home or business. Key features AI-powered optimization: The G5F is the world's first AI-powered outdoor FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) device from ZTE. An integrated AI engine analyzes network conditions to optimize bandwidth allocation and reduce latency for a smoother experience. Powerful 5G connectivity: It features robust antennas with up to 13dBi of gain to capture distant or weak 5G signals, providing superior speed and reliability. It supports both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) 5G networks. High-speed data transfer: It can deliver peak speeds of up to 10 Gbps and features 2.5G PoE (Power over Ethernet) network ports for a fast wired connection. Durable, weatherproof design: The device is built for outdoor installation, with a robust and weatherproof casing to ensure reliable performance in various environmental conditions. Improved Wi-Fi distribution: The G5F is used in conjunction with an indoor Wi-Fi access point, such as ZTE's T3000 Wi-Fi 6 router , to distribute the 5G connection throughout a building. Airtel SmartConnect implementation In Nigeria, Airtel brands this device as the Airtel 5G SmartConnect Outdoor Unit (ODU). In its commercial launch, the product is packaged as a home broadband solution with the following details: Installation: The ODU is designed for outdoor mounting to provide better signal strength and consistent connectivity. Device specifications: The Airtel device can support up to 64 connected devices simultaneously. Power backup: It comes with a built-in battery backup that can last between five and six hours, providing continued internet access during power outages. Parental controls: The device includes parental and usage controls, allowing for greater management of network access. Performance A review of the ZTE G5F / G5 Max on a YouTube channel in October 2025 indicated strong performance. It was noted for its exceptional long-range capability, reaching over 750 Mbps at a distance of 6.5 km from a base station. It also achieved very high speeds at a closer range, reaching 1.8 Gbps in NSA mode. |
