Cameroon's Constitutional Council announces that 92-year old President Paul Biya has won an eighth term. Having first come to power in 1982, the result means that he can now govern until 2032.

It's childish how they are making it about age when his near age mates like Trump, Mitch McConnell etc are ruling elsewhere in USA. Nobody should discriminate against anyone on account of age.

My concern is on getting the reward of good governance to the citizens of that country who have not given up on democracy and their country.

You can only rig an election where you are popular and he's winning because a significant percentage of Cameroon citizens still believe in his leadership.

But Boss you saw what happened with Biden, during the end of his term. Governance should be for sharp, working minds. Trump is still very sharp at 79, he will be leaving office at 82 and has made it clear he does not want a third term, not even as Vp. Biya will be 100 when he retires.

I completely agree with you sir.

If you can vote for someone then you too can be voted for. If you make it about age then I no longer believe it's fair and democratic. It shrinks the democratic space and gives a general entitlement to less qualified people within age bracket we think is ideal.

If a younger person wants it then he or she must earn it. It's my opinion though.

This guy is 92 and infirm. Biden was over a decade younger but was stopped from running because his head was going.

You really think it is alright for a 92 year old with obvious dementia to get another 7 year term in office till 2032 when he'll be 99 and having already been in power for 43 years
