I am not too surprised at this list, the list seems Okay except for Edo Wey actually surprised me! Come to think of it Lagos-Ogun-Oyo-Osun-Edo-Delta-Anambra-Imo-Rivers-Abia all are connected by land border except for FCT which is the seat of power, that tells you that these states seat on the corridor of wealth. Imo with all the insecurity and now the coming of the largest gas refinery in West Africa will definitely catapult the state and its citizens to greater wealth

NO doubt, Lagos State with the top Forbes-listed USD billionaires and multimillionaires such as Otunba Mike Adenuga, 'Femi Otedola, Folornuso Alakija, Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Razak Okoya business mogul and founder of Eleganza Group, Tony Elumelu from Aniocha North LGA in Delta State and more, who all have investments and property in Lagos would feature on the top list.

Ogun too would feature prominently with the several USD multimillionaires and business moguls they have in Ijebuland/Remo, Abeokuta, etc.

Not surprising.
Wealth is usually domiciled along the coast line of most seaboard countries.

Using the US as a grand example, New York, California and Texas have a lot more commerce and hence host a lot more wealthy individuals than hinterlands or land locked states.

Even within continents most land locked states are generally poorer the further away from the coast they are located. Countries like Mali and Burkina in west Africa and Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho in the south.

This is due to International trade that evolved out of the sea.

Kano is too populated and has a massive income disparity to feature on that list. The title of the stat is misleading. This is really a measure of Nigeria's middle class because an income of 200k per month is definitely in the top 20% (maybe 10% even) of Nigerians. Note that an income of 1 million naira per month is in the top 1% of Nigerians according to a BusinessDay April 2025 report.

Now, you can read that stat as follows:

86.4% of Lagos residents are among the top 20% (earn say 200k and above per month) wealthiest in Nigeria
58.1% of Edo residents are among the top 20% (earn say 200k and above per month) wealthiest in Nigeria

there is a reason the rich in Nigeria are called the "1% of the 1%". they are in the top 0.01%

I'm aware that many wealthy Ekiti State folks who are professionals, business moguls and multimillionaires live in Lagos State, Ibadan in Oyo State, Akure (capital of Old Ondo State which used to include Ekiti), the FCT, the Diaspora in United States and United Kingdom. The Lagos-based Prince Julius Adelusi is just one of them I can mention to save time.

Perhaps with the new Ekiti State International Cargo Airport, many of them and their families will start paying attention to going back to their state for investments and property development. The well-managed Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Center has been voted for 2 years in a row as the BEST resort in Nigeria far ahead of resorts in Lagos.
