American Fact-Finding Team Confirms Religious Killings In Nigeria As Group Makes Recommendations To Tinubu Govt

The American fact-finding mission has confirmed the ongoing persecution and killings of Christians in Nigeria as “a calculated and long-running genocide,” while suggesting urgent measures for the President Bola Tinubu-led Government.

The U.S. fact-finding delegation, led by Retired Mayor Mike Arnold of Blanco, Texas, included Retired Ambassador Lewis Lucke, Pastor Jed D’Grace, and Mr. Judd Saul.

The team was invited by Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and coordinated by presidential aide and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, to investigate allegations of persecution against Christians.

This was contained in a report by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety).

The intersociety, in a statement issued on Monday, said it has been “fully vindicated” by the American fact-finding mission’s findings.

According to Intersociety, the American team, which was “procured by the Nigerian Government itself”, refused to compromise its integrity and instead exposed the scale of religious violence ravaging parts of the country.

The group described the development as “a grim but rare opportunity for the Tinubu administration and lawmakers to save Nigeria from further international embarrassment and targeted sanctions.”

The US delegation publicly affirmed that widespread killings and displacements in Northern and Middle Belt Nigeria amount to “an ongoing genocide.”

“The campaign of violence and displacement in Northern and Middle Belt Nigeria does indeed constitute a calculated, current and long-running genocide against Christian communities and other religious minorities, without any reasonable doubt,” Intersociety quoted Mayor Arnold as saying during a press conference in Abuja.

“To continue to deny this is to be complicit in these atrocities. I say this not in anger, but in truth and grief.”

Intersociety noted that Arnold clarified that although his trip and accommodation were funded by the Nigerian Government, he received no compensation or inducement, and his statement was made independently.

“I came only to give, serve, and stand with the people of this country whom I dearly love as my second home,” Arnold was quoted as saying.

Intersociety, which monitored the October 14 Abuja press conference, alleged that the event received “little or no coverage” despite the presence of several media houses.

“Attempts were made to twist and adulterate the original findings of the report when the plotted false narratives did not fly,” the organisation said.

Intersociety described the American findings as “a wake-up call” for Nigerian authorities to act decisively to prevent the country from being designated by the United States as a “Country of Particular Concern”, a status that could lead to targeted sanctions against top political and security officials.

“The Nigerian Government must stop defending the indefensible and squandering public funds on falsehood, propaganda, and international lobbying,” the statement said. “Leaders must rise to the occasion before it is too late.”

Intersociety outlined 21 urgent policy measures it said President Tinubu’s administration must undertake to preserve national unity, restore secular governance, and safeguard religious freedom.

The group warned that ignoring these steps could lead to “complex humanitarian emergencies” that may affect not just Nigeria but the wider African region and Western nations.

The key recommendations include: “Uphold the supremacy of the 1999 Constitution, especially Sections 10 and 38, which guarantee secularism and freedom of religion.

“Abolish blasphemy and Sharia enforcement laws conflicting with constitutional provisions. End all forms of “State Jihadism” and uphold Nigeria’s secular status.

“Transition to human-security governance focused on peace and development. Convene a national conference of Nigeria’s 384 ethnic nationalities to agree on peaceful coexistence.

“Stop ethno-religious bias in the security sector, especially in the South-East. Investigate and account for 5,000 missing detainees allegedly transferred from the South-East to secret facilities in the North since 2015.

“End indiscriminate arrests, profiling, and killings based on ethnicity or religion. De-radicalize security forces and instill professionalism and respect for human rights. Disarm jihadist militias and repatriate foreign fighters occupying Nigeria’s forests.

“Resettle displaced indigenous communities and restore ancestral farmlands. Rescue and account for over 850 Christian hostages held in Rijana Forest, Kaduna State. Abolish Muslim-Muslim presidential ticketing and ensure religious balance in leadership.

“Conduct a credible national census and identify illegal armed migrants. Proscribe violent herders’ groups such as MACBAN and FUNAM if they fail to disarm. End State-backed ranching policies linked to conflicts and recover occupied territories, especially in Niger State.

The organisation further called on the Tinubu government to learn from global examples of peaceful restructuring, such as the Tanzania Union (1964), Germany’s unification (1989), and Sudan’s peace agreement (2005).

The organisation described the current moment as “defining for Nigeria’s future stability.”

“This is not just about faith; it is about national survival. If Nigeria implodes, the consequences will spread beyond Africa to Europe, America, and Asia,” the group warned.

South African Journalist Condemns Al Jazeera Article, Says ‘Christian Genocide’ In Nigeria Driven By Islamist Ideology
October 20, 2025
NEWS

The article, written by Gimba Kakanda, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Research and Analytics, was titled “No, Bill Maher, there is no ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria.”

South African-born investigative journalist and former CBS News correspondent, Lara Logan, has publicly criticised Qatar-based global news network Al Jazeera for what she called a deliberate misrepresentation of the ongoing Christian genocide in Nigeria, accusing the network of downplaying ideological extremism and blaming climate change instead.

Logan made the remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter) while reacting to an opinion article published by Al Jazeera on October 2, 2025.

The article, written by Gimba Kakanda, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Research and Analytics, was titled “No, Bill Maher, there is no ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria.”

In the piece, Kakanda dismissed claims of systematic killings of Christians as “foreign propaganda” and said such narratives “ignore the complexities” of Nigeria’s internal conflicts.

He wrote that “Nigeria’s conflicts are multi-faceted, driven by ethnic rivalries, land disputes and criminality, with religion often secondary.” He also argued that “claims of a religious war between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria are simplistic and betray ignorance of the country’s internal dynamics.”

Responding in her X post, Logan said: “Wow. Al Jazeera is profoundly wrong on this. I have been covering the Christian Genocide in Nigeria for years - largely thanks to the incredible work of Nigerian journalists like Lawrence Zongo, Tom Garba, Masara Kim & their colleagues at Truth Nigeria.”

She accused Al Jazeera of ignoring the ideological and religious motivations behind the violence.

“Herders who carry the black flag of al Qaeda & scream ‘Allah uAkbar’ as they slaughter women & children in village after village are not motivated by climate change but ideology,” she wrote.

Logan added that the attacks were deliberately designed to wipe out Christian communities.

“The attacks are time to destroy crops & prevent the return of people to their homes, thereby cleansing the land of Christians,” she said.

Her remarks directly contradict Kakanda’s position that “to present these conflicts as evidence of a Christian genocide erases these realities and distorts Nigeria’s history.”

Kakanda had also claimed that “most of Boko Haram’s victims have been Muslims,” and accused Western media figures such as American host Bill Maher of pushing “fabricated claims and manipulated images from unverified outlets.”

But Logan described such arguments as deceptive attempts to blur the truth.

“The truth is always simple at it’s core - those who seek to create ambiguity make it complex so they can deceive,” she stated.

Her X post has since drawn widespread attention, reigniting debate over how global media frames Nigeria’s ongoing violence.

SaharaReporters earlier reported on Monday that Nigerian actor and media consultant Joseph Chidi Okechukwu, popularly known as J. C. Okechukwu, had threatened to lead a mass boycott of Al Jazeera in response to Kakanda’s article.

He accused the network of “mocking the blood of innocent Christians” and vowed to mobilise churches and civil society groups to stop watching and engaging with Al Jazeera content unless the opinion piece was retracted and a public apology issued.

PFN President Wale Oke: “Genocide Exists In Nigeria But Not Only About Christians”
October 27, 2025
NEWS

Oke urged the Nigerian government to end the killings of both Muslims and Christians across the country, noting that no Nigerian deserves to die unjustly.

The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, has said that genocide exists in Nigeria but stressed that the killings are not limited to Christians.

In an interview on Sunday, Oke urged the Nigerian government to end the killings of both Muslims and Christians across the country, noting that no Nigerian deserves to die unjustly.

“Our position is that genocide exists, but it is not just about Christians. Our concern is that whether Muslim or Christian, stop the killing, that is our priority ,” he said, according to PUNCH.

He added that the PFN values the sanctity of all lives, noting that no Nigerian deserves to die for any reason.

“We don’t want Muslims to die, and we don’t want Christians to die. We don’t want a situation where there is genocide against Christians today and then it stops, only for there to be genocide against Muslims tomorrow.

“What we want is a situation where genocide is stopped entirely — whether among Muslims or Christians.” Oke stated.

The PFN president emphasised that the government’s primary responsibility is to ensure the welfare and security of its citizens.

“Government exists for the welfare of its people as a primary responsibility. When you don’t have governance that addresses the welfare of the people, the PFN wants to speak truth to power — to make leaders, whether in the political or any other sector, understand that the welfare of the people is important.

“The government should stop the killings. No innocent Nigerian should lose his or her life for any reason,” he added.

Oke’s comments come amid renewed debate over allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria, following claims made by some US lawmakers and advocacy groups.

Recently, a group of U.S. legislators urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to take diplomatic action against the Nigerian government, citing what they described as the “systematic persecution and slaughter of Christians.”

The Nigerian government has, however, repeatedly dismissed such allegations, insisting that no religious group is being targeted.

Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had maintained that Christian communities, particularly in northern Nigeria, suffered sustained attacks, loss of lives, and destruction of places of worship.

Next step is to sanction all Nigerian government officials and their families, who have denied this genocide and tried to cover it up. Both the government officials, their aides, and propaganda agents home and abroad. They’re all profiting from this genocide.

Why there is Christian genocide in Nigeria — Bishop Abioye
Israel Arogbonlo
October 29, 2025

General Overseer of the Living Word Conquerors Global Assembly, Bishop David Abioye, has attributed the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria to what he described as the silence and selfishness of political leaders who deny the reality of targeted killings for personal gain.

Bishop Abioye made the assertion while addressing his congregation during a sermon, accusing political leaders of turning a blind eye to mass killings for their “personal interests.”

According to him, the evidence of targeted killings against Christians is overwhelming and can no longer be dismissed.

“Information with facts can’t be thwarted. You see people (Christians) being buried in hundreds, and you said there is no genocide? What a wicked set of people!

“I agree that there are other people killed in other places for other reasons, but Christian genocide is very clear and gradually, it is eating down to the South.

“Southwest and Southeast, and many so-called leaders, for their personal interests, are claiming that it is not true,” he claimed.

His comments come amid ongoing debates over claims by some US lawmakers and religious freedom advocates that over 30 Christians are killed daily in Nigeria.

The group has called for the country to be designated as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over alleged religious persecution.

However, the Federal Government has dismissed the allegations, insisting that Nigeria’s security challenges are not religiously motivated but rather stem from criminality, banditry, and terrorism affecting all citizens regardless of faith.

‘Christian genocide’: US senator sponsors bill to sanction those who implement Sharia law in Nigeria
Adam Mosadioluwa
November 1, 2025

A United States senator, Ted Cruz, has sponsored a bill to sanction individuals and government officials involved in enforcing blasphemy and Sharia laws in Nigeria, following allegations of widespread persecution of Christians in the country.

Cruz, in a statement released on Friday after President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” said he had introduced legislation to reinforce the U.S. government’s stance and hold accountable those responsible for the alleged religious oppression.

He said, “I am deeply gratified to President Trump for making this determination. I have fought for years to counter the slaughter and persecution of Christians in Nigeria, and this year introduced legislation that will lock in the designation made today.”

According to him, the bill would strengthen measures against Nigerian officials accused of enabling an environment where Christians face targeted violence and discrimination.

“Today’s designation is a critical step in holding accountable and changing the behaviour of Nigerian officials who have facilitated and created an environment conducive to the outrages in Nigeria. My legislation implements additional steps, including targeting those who implement blasphemy and sharia laws in Nigeria, and I am committed to working with the administration and my colleagues to advance my bill and implement these necessary measures,” he stated.

Cruz also commended President Trump’s leadership, saying, “Today’s decision by President Trump is a great one, and I thank him for his strong leadership.”

Trump’s declaration came after he alleged that thousands of Christians have been killed by radical Islamist groups in Nigeria, describing the situation as a growing threat to Christianity.

He warned that the United States “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” calling for immediate investigations and policy actions.

However, both the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Nigerian Presidency have dismissed the allegations of a Christian genocide.

While CAN described the reports as false narratives peddled by foreign agents, the Presidency insisted that there is no religious war taking place in the country.

‘Christian genocide:’ Nicki Minaj praises Trump for designating Nigeria as ‘country of particular concern’

November 1, 2025

American rapper Nicki Minaj has expressed support for President Donald Trump’s decision to designate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.

In a post on X, Minaj said she felt grateful to live in a nation where people can freely practise their faith, stressing that no one should face hostility for their religious beliefs.

She noted that persecution against Christians in various countries is a global crisis that should not be ignored, urging people to pray for victims and show mutual respect despite differing beliefs.

The rapper tweeted, “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God.

“No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.

“Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice.

“Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”

He warned that the United States “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” calling for immediate investigations and policy actions.

US Lawmaker Moore To Tinubu: "Don’t Test Donald Trump’s Resolve On Christians Killings"
November 2, 2025
NEWS

Moore warned that others who had tested the resolve of the Trump administration in the past had failed.

A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has urged the Nigerian government led by President Bola Tinubu not to test the resolve of the United States government under President Donald Trump, on the alleged Christian genocide in the country.

In a post on his official X handle, Moore warned that others who had tested the resolve of the Trump administration in the past had failed.

"To the Government of Nigeria & @officialABAT: "President Trump has provided forewarning if you do not correct the current state of inaction to stop the killing of our brothers and sisters in Christ in your country. The days of the US looking the other way are over - it will never happen on @POTUS’ watch.

"I urge you to cooperate with us in preventing this atrocity that worsens everyday. We want your people to live in peace - all of them, especially Christians.

"The President has been clear. I would not to test his resolve. Many have tried and all have failed.

"We will not allow the gates of hell to prevail against the faithful."

Moore’s comments come as President Trump warned that he would deploy the U.S. military to Nigeria if the “killing of Christians” in the country does not stop.

According to Trump, the United States military may come “gun-blazing” into the country.

"If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.

“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians,” he said.

While the Nigerian Government has not reacted to the threat of invasion, it has denied the existence of any Christian genocide in the country.

According to the Government, such claims are false and do not represent the daily realities in Nigeria.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that on Friday, President Trump said that in response to claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria, he had redesignated the country as a “country of particular concern.”

He had announced the decision on his Truth Social media platform.

Reacting, however, the Nigerian government— through the country’s President, Bola Tinubu — denied that there is religious intolerance in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the President emphasised that Nigeria’s constitution enshrines the protection of religious rights and that his administration continues to ensure equality for all faiths across the country.

“Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty,” Tinubu said.

He noted that since assuming office in 2023, his administration has maintained active engagement with both Christian and Muslim leaders while working to tackle security challenges that affect citizens regardless of their religious affiliation.

“Since 2023, our administration has maintained an open and active engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders alike and continues to address security challenges which affect citizens across faiths and regions,” he stated.

Tinubu dismissed what he described as a mischaracterisation of Nigeria’s religious landscape by external observers, saying such claims fail to reflect the country’s diversity and the government’s ongoing efforts to promote peaceful coexistence.

“The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians,” the President declared.

He stressed that religious tolerance remains central to Nigeria’s national identity, insisting that the government neither supports nor condones persecution based on faith.

“Religious freedom and tolerance have been a core tenet of our collective identity and shall always remain so. Nigeria opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it,” he affirmed.

Tinubu further underscored that Nigeria’s constitution guarantees protection for citizens of all faiths, reiterating that his administration will continue to work with international partners to promote understanding and safeguard communities.

“Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths,” he said.

“Our administration is committed to working with the United States government and the international community to deepen understanding and cooperation on protection of communities of all faiths,” Tinubu added.
