FG Manipulating Food Prices For Political Gains – ADC by treesun(op): 8:18am On Oct 28, 2025
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the federal government of dishonesty over its claims of increased local food production, arguing that widespread insecurity and the displacement of farmers—especially in northern Nigeria—make such assertions untrue.

The party lamented that even farmers who have not been displaced are struggling to afford fertilisers and other essential agricultural inputs due to soaring costs.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC questioned the rationale behind hoarding imported food while millions of Nigerians face hunger, describing it as a deliberate weaponisation of poverty for political advantage.

The ADC called for a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s agricultural strategy, urging the government to implement policies that protect local production, stabilise food prices, safeguard farmers’ lives, and ensure long-term food sovereignty.

“The ADC is deeply concerned about the Federal Government’s misleading narrative around the so-called drop in food prices. Contrary to what is being celebrated in official circles, the reality on the ground—as confirmed by struggling farmers and families across the country—is that the Tinubu administration is manipulating food prices and weaponising hunger for political gains,” the statement said.

The party said the reported reduction in food prices is artificial and driven by import waivers that have flooded the market with cheap foreign food.

“This is neither evidence of sound economic policy nor proof of increased local production. While it may temporarily reduce food prices, it comes at a heavy cost to local farmers who can no longer compete due to rising input prices, particularly fertilisers, and worsening insecurity,” the ADC said.

The party further described as “strange and dishonest” the government’s claim that its policies are boosting domestic production at a time when many farmers have been displaced by bandits.

“How can production be increasing when the rural economy is under siege by bandits and the cost of planting is now beyond the reach of the average farmer?” the statement added.

Crashing food prices ADC are not happy, and the same ADC claiming they want to make Nigeria and Nigerians life better. From ADC statement its clear they don't have any good intentions for Nigeria and Nigerians

Propaganda and outright lies by APC is for the consumption of their laptop boys online.

But offline, these laptop boys are the worse hit by tinubumonics.

You flocked the market with imported food items which sold at cheaper rate without any consideration for local farmers and the inherent losses they'd incure, then went to town chanting hallelujah over a shortlived fit.

So, you guys have finally agreed that food prices are dropping and not just on paper like Obidients like to say? That’s a good start

Bro that's not the case. Crashing food prices when you have insecurity issues that led to the scarcity of food prices in the first place is not sustainable. What is basically happening here is that the FG are using the national reserves to balance out the actual price of the agricultural products so the sellers can at a rate that doesn't actually reflect the true cost of the product.

If for example a tuber of yam now sells for 3k due to insecurity and the FG covers N800 of that, the farmers can now sell for 2200, not because there's been an actual price reduction but because the FG covered for a substantial amount of that 3k.

It's a stop gap, it might help make food more accessible for a short time but it's not sustainable because the FG are taking funds directly from the national reserves and this would have to be replaced one way or the other (does the new 2026 tax policy ring any bells?) , Also that 3k tuber of yam would most likely sell for almost twice that price in 6 months to a year, as the Islamic terrorists destroy more farm lands and kill more farmers, meaning the FG would have to cover more cost for agricultural products which would in turn lead to more taxes on Nigerians ( remember the FG are not getting this money from thin air, they have to replenish the money they take out meaning more taxes OR request a loan from the IMF and to pay that loan we would need to raise money from somewhere, example...taxes!)

We could do this or, here's a thought, we could just crush the terrorists once and for all. And a first step towards doing this is by calling them terrorists and not bandits. Enough of the silly games

Nigerian middlemen are the problem. They have been hoarding food in warehouses waiting to make HUGE profit in future.

Now the FG is teaching them a lesson they will NEVER forget in a longtime.

Are you a middleman?

ADC if giving power will be worse than APC. Food prices are going down, but ADC not happy, they want local farmers to give them waiver for the middle men to keep on eating on masses.

Government shouldn't use the power of the state to bring down food prices.

They should allow it be high if they cannot improve the factors of production.

huh

Let the poor breathe..... Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu May 29, 2023

whatever to do to let the poor masses buy food at GEJ rates should be applauded... APC has finished its cycle of karma for insulting innocent GEJ. Life has to return to normal

Reduction in price is welcome

Opposition ain't madness. The economy is doing better, there have been disinflation for the past 6 months straight up. Lending rates has been dropping too🤷🏿. Mutual funds, treasury bills, commercial papers. That's why stocks are doing great 🤷🏿.

It defies common sense why imported food is cheaper. The citizens have to find away to deal with middle men 📌💯
Re: FG Manipulating Food Prices For Political Gains – ADC by adioolayi(m): 10:18am On Oct 28, 2025
So, what's the business of a common man like mehuh

They should continue the manipulation, so far the prices of the food are coming down and are affordable for me..

That's the koko.

I don't understand why ADC are not happy for the citizens that the prices are coming down..it was a policy that drove the prices up...if another strategy is driving the process downwards..why should this not be celebrated...when we actually abused them for driving the prices uphuh

What exactly is ADC statement trying to achievehuh

Any so-called “price crash,” when in essence prices aren’t falling below what the Tinubu administration met when it took over, is purely lies, falsehood, and propaganda.

I don't think you understand how scarcity and demand works, go through my previous post again. You cannot teach them a lesson when you are paying a portion of the actual cost of a product in order to sell that product at a reduced price thereby giving the illusion that there's been a cost reduction. Its an unsustainable bubble that would burst sooner or later

Can you see the contradiction?

First, you accuse the government of encouraging food importation for the purpose of bringing down the price. Next, you claim government is hoarding the food.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Are you not tired of politicians manipulating us then keeping us in bondage for another 4 years? This manipulation from the federal government has to stop. We need to vote in the right people, there's no time again. If you're an APC merchant then the thunder that will strike you is doing pressup if not then don't let these guys confuse you it's just a temporary phase. Don't be silly.
Re: FG Manipulating Food Prices For Political Gains – ADC by Justtach: 10:28am On Oct 28, 2025
I'm telling you guys there is truth in this statement. How can farming inputs, labour etc be on the highside and there is poor yield while insecurity is ravaging farms and discouraging farmers from farming and at the same time prices in the market has dropped drastically.
Checkout, apart from food items what else is cheap out there? Not rent, transportation,, groceries, fuel, medication and hospitals. Not even bear or hookups.

This drop in food items is pure artificial. Although we the masses may enjoy this but I can assure you it's for a short time..... You remember Charles soludu and the fake stock markets and economic boom of that year?

I come in peace not for war.

https://www.cbn.gov.ng/Out/2024/RSD/Refocusing Agricultural Subsidy for Food.pdf

This is from an official CBN report from 2025
"Agricultural subsidies in Nigeria can further be justified by the
worsening poverty estimated at 40.0 per cent in 2019 which is more pronounced in
rural areas at 52.1 per cent (NBS, 2020). The income inequality of 35.1 per cent is also
a call for concern just as the raging insecurity in the country. Poverty is more
pronounced among male and female agricultural households, compared with
other employment categories in rural, urban areas in the country."

It's already being done, they just don't have to tell you. Anyone who knows about economics, knows that there are certain elements that needs to be in place to see a reduction of prices, either aggressive output, increased productivity, excess supply, a reduction in demand etc. In the case of Nigeria at the moment, insecurity has drastically reduced our agricultural productivity, our oil export is also experiencing some downturn, so what could possibly be the catalyst that has triggered this "price reduction" in Agricultural products? In the words of Wole Soyinka, this is "voodoo economics"

Simple solution to this, solve the insecurity issue, you cannot be aware of a leak on a ship and still go ahead to set sail with that ship with the intention to patch that ship up as you are on your journey. That's calling for disaster.
oga go and sit somewhere, who taught you economics?.food price rise you complain, food price reduce you complain…what kind of life is that
