Bro that's not the case. Crashing food prices when you have insecurity issues that led to the scarcity of food prices in the first place is not sustainable. What is basically happening here is that the FG are using the national reserves to balance out the actual price of the agricultural products so the sellers can at a rate that doesn't actually reflect the true cost of the product.

If for example a tuber of yam now sells for 3k due to insecurity and the FG covers N800 of that, the farmers can now sell for 2200, not because there's been an actual price reduction but because the FG covered for a substantial amount of that 3k.

It's a stop gap, it might help make food more accessible for a short time but it's not sustainable because the FG are taking funds directly from the national reserves and this would have to be replaced one way or the other (does the new 2026 tax policy ring any bells?) , Also that 3k tuber of yam would most likely sell for almost twice that price in 6 months to a year, as the Islamic terrorists destroy more farm lands and kill more farmers, meaning the FG would have to cover more cost for agricultural products which would in turn lead to more taxes on Nigerians ( remember the FG are not getting this money from thin air, they have to replenish the money they take out meaning more taxes OR request a loan from the IMF and to pay that loan we would need to raise money from somewhere, example...taxes!)

We could do this or, here's a thought, we could just crush the terrorists once and for all. And a first step towards doing this is by calling them terrorists and not bandits. Enough of the silly games
Thank you for your explaination, essentially, they are subsidizing food produces and claiming agricultural boost in growth and development.

Insecurity keeps rising and prices keeps going on high. Infact this is a dangerous tool for food distributors, it wont last long then.

Well said. Stop subsidizing food. Destroy the bandits.

Crashing food prices ADC are not happy, and the same ADC claiming they want to make Nigeria and Nigerians life better.

From ADC statement its clear they don't have any good intentions for Nigeria and Nigerians

How import waivers are crippling local rice mills

Rice millers have raised concerns over the federal government’s import duty waiver on rice, maize and sorghum, saying it is hurting their businesses.

This is just as the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said the waiver has caused food prices to drop.

Propaganda and outright lies by APC is for the consumption of their laptop boys online.

But offline, these laptop boys are the worse hit by tinubumonics.

You flocked the market with imported food items which sold at cheaper rate without any consideration for local farmers and the inherent losses they'd incure, then went to town chanting hallelujah over a shortlived fit.
You guys are funny 🤣. The same people that were not happy with Buhari for shutting boarders against food imports are again not happy that PBAT opened the boarders for food imports. See you people's life?

ADC if giving power will be worse than APC.

Food prices are going down, but ADC not happy, they want local farmers to give them waiver for the middle men to keep on eating on masses.
The politicians in ADC are the ones who gave us 16 years of PDP prosperity that Tinubu and APC changed to extreme poverty shege a decade ago.

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

So what is your option and what are you saying: leave the food prices to soar until we crush the bandits. Are you people not the same people advocating for subsidy in every area of our economy? Were you not the same people that condemned Bubu when he shut the boarders to encourage local food production?

When the government quotes increased reserves you say that Nigerians are not feeling it. The same government is using the reserves according to you to make Nigerians feel it you still condemn. Ha ha ha.

When food prices were soaring you used it against the government and now that the prices are going down you still use it against the government. Ha ha ha ha. I tire ooo.

I don't think you understand how scarcity and demand works, go through my previous post again. You cannot teach them a lesson when you are paying a portion of the actual cost of a product in order to sell that product at a reduced price thereby giving the illusion that there's been a cost reduction. Its an unsustainable bubble that would burst sooner or later
Please let celebrate and enjoying reduction now. We will still criticise the government if the price goes up again. Leave theory and face practical. Any manipulation to further crash food prices is welcome.

They prefer the prices to be going up,so that it will give them campaign selling points. Most politicians in Nigeria are not interested in Nigerians well being especially when they are in opposition.
God bless you. That's the fact. They want to use high food cost as campaign strategy but that doesn't make sense anymore.

I am not against this bro, hunger too much so if I see affordable food me sef go buy, I am only stating the obvious, this is not sustainable and we need to reclaim our farmlands and enforce security with brute force and ruthlessness our farmlands

What do they really want? Price of food goes up they complain, price of food crashed they still complain.
Below, the utterances of ADC, reveals the reason for their unhappiness. After some of its members had sponsored banditry and terrorism that has grossly impacted agricultural yield for years now, they are terribly upset Tinubu is still finding ways and means to try and ensure food security and affordability for Nigerian.

What is shown below is ADC indicting itself as a party filled with enemies of Nigeria's progress. They are shocked the displacement of farmers, they have first hand information of, appears circumvented.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the federal government of dishonesty over its claims of increased local food production, arguing that widespread insecurity and the displacement of farmers—especially in northern Nigeria—make such assertions untrue.

Celebrate today's gain and hope/pray for the bolded to happen. Afterall, an overhaul of Armed forces chiefs has just happened which should positively impact insecurity affecting farming across the North.

Note too that things would be much better had Governors, getting more allocations than ever, keyed into Tinubu's pleas for them all to engage in or aggressively support commercial farming in their States to ease dependence on food from terrorised States and region of Nigeria.

Barking at the FG alone, over food affordability and sufficiency, is extremely myopic for anyone who understands we have so many leaders who have the power and duty to do much more than they are currently.

Thanks man... This Alliance for Displaced Conmen (ADC) are not always happy with anything good. Food prices is going down and their family members will benefit from it and they're complaining. Hiposcrisy at its peak! It's true insecurity persists in some parts of the country but will the rest of the country starve? I read some people's comment here that federal govt is importing food and that was why food prices is crashing down. Let me tell you this: over 80% percent of the pineapples, okro etc. coming into Lagos are from other counties in West Africa.. Despite the population in Nigeria, there's no way farmers can meet up with food supply.

Even U.S. imports foods from Mexico.

Common Imports:

Avocados 🥑 (Mexico is the #1 supplier to the U.S.)

Tomatoes 🍅
Bell peppers 🌶️
Strawberries 🍓
Blueberries and raspberries 🫐
Limes and lemons 🍋
Mangoes 🥭
Cucumbers and squash
Onions and garlic

🌾 Grains and Staples

Corn (maize) (though the U.S. also exports corn to Mexico — it’s a two-way trade)
Rice
Beans (especially black beans and pinto beans)
And many more....

It is understandable because that was their last line of attack.
They are not happy because they can longer cry of hunger.

This mighty come as a shocker to you but believe it or not, it’s entirely possible for something to be looted while still having some of its contents left. That's literally what looting means in case you don't understand how that works. When people report a robbery, they’re pointing out that certain items have been stolen not that the entire house has been emptied. The same logic applies to national reserves. I’d suggest using some critical thinking before attempting to discredit the post of others.

That's the koko.

I don't understand why ADC are not happy for the citizens that the prices are coming down..it was a policy that drove the prices up...if another strategy is driving the process downwards..why should this not be celebrated...when we actually abused them for driving the prices uphuh

What exactly is ADC statement trying to achievehuh
They don't want the price to come down, opposition trying to weaponise hunger to get support
