Petrol Truck Diverted From Borno Nabbed In Kebbi by ManirBK(op): 8:42am On Oct 29, 2025
A truck carrying 60,000 litres of petrol meant to be discharged in Borno State has been arrested at the Kebbi border by men of the Operation Whirlwind of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The truck with registration number NSR26ZL, laden with petrol worth over N60m, according to Customs, was to be smuggled out of the country when it was intercepted at the border area of the state.

While addressing journalists at the Customs area command in Birnin Kebbi, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, who represented the national coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, ACG Dr Kola Oladeji, said upon their investigation, it was discovered that the product was originally meant to be discharged in Borno State but diverted to Kebbi to be smuggled out of the country.

While handing over the seized petrol truck to the Deputy Manager of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who represented the state coordinator -Kebbi and Sokoto, Mr Ali Ajimi, he said, “The truck we are handing over today was suspected of diversion and was detained here at the Customs Area Command, Kebbi.”

This is how they've been doing it and making the country pay for it. But I don't think they should arrest anyone, at least we're meant to believe the government no longer pay subsidy. They're free to buy and take it to hell if they wish, shishi, nobody go pay you

Even with the high fuel price they are still diverting fuel

This was the same format they used in 2023 when they said our fuel was the cheapest in west Africa that if they increased the fuel price , diverting fuel would stop

Alas here we are now

The worst scenario of these fuel tanker drivers is the one who after diverting the fuel, set the tanker on fire.

90% of our challenges in this country is from an average Nigerian who is always pointing accusing fingers on his leaders.

Fuel is still cheaper in Nigeria than in neighbouring countries, so diverting it illegally to those countries is still profitable.

It was. And even now, it still is.

The difference is, we are not subsidizing fuel for everyone in west Africa

Our fuel is still cheap, It is not a lie. If our fuel prices are higher than the neighbors why would they be diverting fuel to them?

You also forgot that our naira is devalued and so it is less valuable than that of our neighbors, so it makes sense why tankers would want to sell to neighboring countries for massive gains.

I have always wondered why Benin Republic, Togo and other seemingly poorer nations are able to afford more expensive fuel while we get angry at a cost that is sometimes only about 60% of their cost. Who can explain it to me?
Re: Petrol Truck Diverted From Borno Nabbed In Kebbi by jflower06(m): 10:53am On Oct 29, 2025

To be smuggled to the neighboring countries or on its way to the government in the forest?

This is an obvious evidence that fuel is still cheaper in Nigeria to where ever he is smuggling it to which will likely be our neighbors (Niger Republic)

Our weak naira still makes the fuel cheaper as Dangote buys crude in naira and sells in naira. When naira gets strong relative to CFA francs there will be less of smuggling as it will not be profitable. Same snuggling is happening with foodstuff because it is cheaper in Nigeria due to weak naira.

They can't. Fuel is a very costly thing there. They also grumble as well.

In the good old days of subsidy, most of them bought smuggled Nigerian fuel. That's how they survived
Re: Petrol Truck Diverted From Borno Nabbed In Kebbi by franvincoop: 12:09pm On Oct 29, 2025
Simple, it's because naira is worthless.
Take it or leave it, the real people enjoying Nigeria are our CFA denominated neighbors.
Buhari was the one who over printed and over saturated the naira via ways and means @ CBN with Meffy then added color to the naira did a 360 by artificially increasing the value of the naira through scarcity causing naira to be used to buy naira, I mean naira was chasing the naira and not any Goods or services, save for local audio rice since it was made contraband.
Then Tinubu promised to continue from where Buhari stopped, he promised to reduce the purchasing power of the people and achieved this via subsidy is gone and further devaluation of the naira.

2015
1000 naira = 3100 xaf

2025
1000 naira = 388 xaf

If its not voodoo economics, then I don't know but beware of APC supporters, they will convince you that things are much better now and that if you cant buy milo, then drink pap to grow the naira.
They will convince you that they have gigantic subsidy savings but they are borrowing massively and looting silently behind closed doors further sinking the naira.
