Where Did Nigeria Really Got It Wrong by steeltrust(op): 3:06pm On Oct 28, 2025
Before CHANGE took over Nigeria, things were not perfect but the country was alive.

There was light at the end of the tunnel.

There was structure.
There was direction.
And, most importantly, there was hope.

From 1999, Obasanjo worked to clean Nigeria’s international image.

He cleared debts, rebuilt our foreign reserves, and opened Nigeria to the world again.

Yar’Adua came with a quiet mind

not loud, not flashy but he had a vision.

He started the Niger Delta Amnesty Program, began true electoral reforms, and stabilized oil production.

The best president Nigeria will ever had

Then came Goodluck Jonathan.

For the first time, Nigerians saw power transition peacefully.

We had a president who valued intellect who surrounded himself with experts,
not noise-makers.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala managed the economy with global respect.

The naira was stable.

Investors trusted us.

Tech startups began to rise.
Airports were improving.

Even fuel scarcity wasn’t a daily nightmare.

Nigeria was not heaven but you could dream.

You could plan.

You could save money and know what it was worth next month.

₦500,000 in 2014 meant something.

Then came 2015.

The “change” that changed everything.

The same Nigeria that was finding its feet suddenly lost balance.

Policies started to clash.

Foreign investors ran.

The dollar jumped from ₦150 to ₦500 in one presidency.

Inflation went wild.

Unemployment tripled.

The naira was devalued beyond control.

People started migrating (japa) not for luxury, but for survival.

And that’s where the real question lies:

What exactly happened?

How did a country that was becoming Africa’s biggest economy and pride suddenly become a begging economy?

Was it mismanagement?

Was it sabotage?

Or was Nigeria’s growth simply a threat to powers beyond our borders?

Yeah Jonathan’s government may had its flaws, but there was a sense of peace.

The economy was functional.

There was dialogue.

So how did everything collapse right after “change” came?

Today, the same “change” has changed our reality completely.

A bag of rice that was ₦8,000 now costs ₦70,000.

A dollar that was ₦150 is now ₦1,200.

A country that once gave others hope can’t even feed its own.

Sometimes I sit and wonder

maybe we didn’t just vote out a man in 2015,
maybe we voted out our future.

As a Nigerian, it’s painful to look back and remember that there was a time when one dollar was just ₦150.

Now, it’s over ₦1,000 and still climbing.

A time when ₦5,000 could fill your tank, when ₦500,000 could build something, and when hope still meant something.

Today, the numbers don’t just show inflation they show how far we’ve fallen.

The saddest part?

We’re not even shocked anymore.

We’ve normalized suffering.

No Nigeria deserved the Nigeria struggle

We had opportunity to make things right in the last election but because of tribalism and foreign religious beliefs a lot people acted funny.
Any society that adore funny characters is not ready for positive change.

When we elected Buhari (a cattle rearer). This is the honest truth
Re: Where Did Nigeria Really Got It Wrong by Savenigeria2023: 2:14am On Oct 29, 2025
Reasons:
1. Nigerians are dumb and docile
2. Ethnic division guarantees Nigeria will never get better

How can anyone compare Buhari to Goodluck?
How can Tinubu be a better option than Peter Obi?

Nigeria can only get worse and no be curse
Re: Where Did Nigeria Really Got It Wrong by Twist4u: 2:50am On Oct 29, 2025
The day the lifeless one "Buhari" Emerge as President, Nigeria retrogression set in. It's destined so long as we remain as one. A people of different ideology and philosophy towards life cannot forge successful future. It has never happened anywhere in the world. What success is to the north, is different from what it is to the south.

And Ronus, the clog in the wheel of Southern libration need to be worked out first. Else, there was a country.

These are some of the questions an honest patriot should ask.
Now to give what I have experienced from Buhari's tenure.
Oil price globally took a nosedive from above $100 - $40 per barrel.
You can make necessary research about global oil price and what it cost to produce a barrel of crude oil.
Nigeria is filled with selfish complainers who want free things.
Although am an Igbo man from nwangele Imo state but I give kudos to my president who is a man of great vision.
Igbos are killing our economy with too much importation.
They core Muslim North are breeding like rabbits with no finance to train their children.
Soon Nigeria will be competing with India by population yet always blaming their leaders.

The north.

The north.
The north
Obj cleared all the debts and when yar adua took over, guess what, the debts started to pile again.
They have little idea how to rule but they love to rule cos they believe they are born to. Buhari came and borrowed and borrowed and even printed money! Can you imagine...the surprising thing if all is the "genius" from the south in charge now still borrowing!!!!? So unbelievable!!

Ahmadu Bello kept threatening the peace of the country then for no reason at all.....

He kept spreading hate and tribalism. It was so unfortunate. But this ain't the answer to the ops question...cos even at the 1970s,early 80s,the country was still ok.

I don't have patience to read through the OP hogwash.

He should go and read history or so small research online and educate himself of atrocities committed since 1999.

During these period we had

St Theresa bomb blast
Yanyan pack bomb blast
ThisDay office bomb blast
Bomb flying all over Nigeria states

Large scale kidnapping of school children, military base surrendering to Boko Haram.

It during these period
Boko Haram was created
IPOB
ISWAP

We had Dasukigate
HoR power probe
Ahmed Lawal and Otedola fiasco

Subsidy scam were revealed by the National Assembly

State government could no longer pay salary
Federal government were borrowing money before they could pay salary.

Ajaokuta moribund
The 4 refinery ruined despite budget for turnaround maintenance

Gas flaring couldn't be curtail
Fuel scarcity and queue everywhere
ASUU strikes seems like national policy

If I want to write about what the previous government destroyed I will write 100pages
