How To Easily End Kidnapping In Nigeria (pics) by Princewill1(op):
One of the major problems of Nigeria is that those elected to lead us over the years are not great problem solvers or that leaders are not genuinely concerned about the numerous problems facing the nation. Even as a private citizen, ever since a close relative was abducted in 2020 and released after ransom, I have been thinking about how this menace can be brought to an end in the country. I recently tweeted the following about the spate of kidnappings in Nigeria. 👇 The Tweet:

"90% of kidnappings in Nigeria occur in bushes on the expressways and city outskirts. Setup "Forest Guard" a paramilitary Organization across the country made of only indigenous youths in 774 LGA to comb our forest areas daily. Scrap NYSC & fund the Organization with the defunct NYSC money. Problem solved!" ... and the tweet quickly got traction.

Here are details of how this idea can be implemented perfectly with no additional load to the country's annual budget:

1.) Recruitment in each LGA must only be from indigenous youths whom having been living in the community in the last 10 years. This is to ensure that all personnels are knowledgeable of the terrain of the community. Not what they do in NPF where someone will be brought in from Sokoto to police a village in Rivers State.

2.) The geographical size of a each LGA will determine the number of personnels recruited. The bigger the size of LGA the higher the number of personnel stationed on it.

3.) Few troubled LGAs where there is ongoing fighting with Boko Haram, Bandits, UGM etc will be exempted. Only the military will be assigned to handle those LGAs.

4.) The Paramilitary group will be armed and equipped with communication gadgets and surveillance drones especially in LGAs with difficult terrains.

5.) The Paramilitary group will have national head in Abuja and state controller generals in each state.

6.) NYSC will have to be scrapped and it's annual budget reallocated to this new organization to prevent additional load on the country's yearly budget.

7.) If a kidnap was successfully carried out and the kidnap victim was held in a particular LGA during the ransom negotiation. All the paramilitary personnels stationed in that particular LGA will have to reimburse the victim's family from the their salary for a month or months depending on the ransom amount they family paid. This is to ensure optimum performance and to prevent personnels from directly or indirectly engaging in kidnappings themselves.

8.) This paramilitary group maybe be named Nigerian Forest Guard or something else. It's mandate will be to patrol, comb and safeguard our forest areas nationwide.

Because No forest hideout, No Kidnapping in Nigeria. If you are close to anyone in govt, show him this post.

Well listed.

The number one solution to majority of Nigeria’s problems is serious investment in our educational sector. What we have now and had for some decades ago have been proper bad education.

When you properly educate the populace, other things will gradually fall in place.

Are we still going to be experiencing insecurity,if this were to be happening in a chiefdom or kingdom, that's independent of government restriction on self help measures

Rubbish

The current administration only acts when it affects them

you don't know how fast they have been on the "coup" case
arresting any names mentioned
even going after former governor
being very proactive..

when it comes to the masses
Tinubu doesn't care

we know the hot spots in kidnapping cases
along highways, thick bushes and forests..
they won't even put any security personnel in such areas...

don't waste your time

Great idea.

Pay no attention to those who really don't want it to end.

They would discourage the idea from taking root.

The easiest way to end insecurity or kidnapping is when a leader is willing to do the right thing.
The killings happening here can't continue for more than 48 hours in developed countries.
Using Israel for example, it's impossible for barbarians to keep attacking a community within Israel without the security forces wiping them out.
Everything stops at the door step of a country's leadership.
All the security needs is just an order from above. We should stop all those too much talks.

You clearly know northing about the quality of humans that inhabit Nigeria ...You see that your forest guard they are ones who will start kidnapping.

The only way to stop is to declare life sentence for anyone found paying or participating in negotiations of ransom and even paying it and then set up a 30 million Naira compensation for the family of anyone killed by kidnappers after investigations are concluded .

Sound harsh but it's the only thing that will work

God bless reasonable, empathetic Nigerians like you.

Before I continue, I suspect you are an Igbo guy. I said this because over the years, I have observed that it's mostly Igbos that have been genuinely concerned about seeing Nigeria work for all Nigerians, the rest of other majority tribes are concerned about grabbing and holding on to power to continue to use politics to control Nigeria's resources they use to focus developments in their region while forcing every other Nigerian to be patriotic and accept the failed Nigerian state that is favoring only them and a selected few.

Now to your great suggestion, I have said the same thing countless times, and I was so excited when Tinubu initiated the Forest Guards, I was really overjoyed that finally he must have heard or read some of my numerous suggestions on x, etc.

But the problem I have with Tinubu and those around him is that, when they initiate good policy, they backtrack or implement it with bias, lukewarm attitude, carelessness or without proper attention that good policy needs. Sometimes he will initiate good policy and then implement it with corrupt attitude and nepotism which destroys the good policy he initiated.

Forest Guards is one of the solutions to kidnapping and all the violent crimes we are experiencing in Nigeria currently

But then, Forest Guards alone cannot solve the problem. Our security needs to be revisited.

From past incidents, we have heard Police Officers accuse Nigerian soldiers of collaborating with Fulani herdsmen militants and kidnappers. We have heard stories of AIG and some top Police Officers in some states releasing arrested Northern kidnappers.

How do you solve this to avoid them sabotaging the efforts of the Forest Guards who should be completely indigenous to the LGA they will be operating in?

Change the way our heads of security arms are posted. We must not be stubborn to change.

The old method of posting a Kano State army General to become the GOC of the army cantonment in Abia state should be gone already. We should be moving towards making our security more indigenous and localized for effectiveness.

The President should make it a law that only indigenes of a state can serve as GOC of the army or military cantonment in every state in Nigeria. I know they are scared that Southeast will seize the opportunity to secede from Nigeria but that's not true, Igbos are only wishing to secede because the Presidents of Nigeria have refused to rejig Nigeria to work for all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion. Igbos want equity, fairness and justice and they will never think of seceding from Nigeria. Igbos want Obinna to be treated the same way Haruna or Musa or Olamide or Tunde or Ibiye or Timipre is treated.

Stop posting none indigenes of a state to become GOC of Army cantonments in a state.

Stop posting non indigenes of a state to become Commissioner of Police in a state.

Let the GOC of every army or military cantonment in every state in Nigeria be an indigene of that state. Do same for Commissioner of Police.

This will prevent army GOCs and Commissioners of Police sabotaging the efforts of Forest Guards who should be indigenes of every LGA they will be operating.

Not that after Forest Guards arrest a kidnapper, one army GOC in that state will send troops to go and rescue the kidnapper just because he wants to protect the kidnapper whom he believes comes from his tribe without minding the evil he is perpetrating.

Lastly, the Forest Guards must be well equipped with surveillance and attack drones. They should be equipped with sophisticated rifles the grade of military combat because they will be dealing with very violent criminals and terrorists because all the criminals that are destabilizing Nigeria live and operate from our forests and unmanned areas which the Forest Guards will be covering.

Forest Guards must not be seen patrolling the city or town, they must be warned to stay in the forests and highways bush areas not on the road. And they should have special salary structure and allowance and if possible with life insurance.

This is the only way to end kidnapping and other crimes in Nigeria, it will even help to combat terrorism and cultism too.

Will Tinubu do this? I doubt because he is always implementing good policies with corruption, politics, nepotism and bias mind, sadly angry

Forest rangers have been set up already, the only problem is I don't know how equipped they are , cos I don't think para military units are allowed to use certain weapons , the bandits and kidnappers have superior weapons .

Yes forest rangers have been set up. Like the ones in enugu who are armed with torch light and sticks. And you wonder why they are scared of entering the forest. Set up vigilante today, you can't arm them with ak 47 only pump action.

They don't even need to scrap NYSC. Once the forest is fully secured and kidnapping cases drastically reduced to near zero. Those forest can be well mapped out for tourism. There are a lot of foreigners that will visit and enjoy the forest and that will actually pay for itself and will likely create more job.

Our tourism industry has not even been tapped imagine the potential. Imagine what having a safe trail from Lagos that criss cross the whole zone upto Sokoto. With camping sites in-between, and connects several of our rivers, water falls and caves and hills, values and mountains. That will blow the industry out of the water.

Thank God we have a lot of diasporians that would love to come back and enjoy our nature and with their friends. Infact they will be the one doing the advert for us.

Forest rangers don't need to be armed with guns. The problem is that our police force are corrupt and grossly under funded. If they were properly funded and professional forest ranger will patrol the forest see or hear something and then relay it to the police that will respond swiftly. That is how an ideal situation should be.

Exactly! So there needs to be a push for 2 things at the houses of Assembly nationwide and national assembly
1. State police
2. Approval for weapons upgrade for forest and farm rangers .
