I think it helps a lot to have a normal Airtel sim before purchasing the ODU.

What problems are you guys having?
The registration is failing or the router is not browsing?

It's best you do an email to the customer care stating the issue and provide your alternative number that you used during registration!
They will escalate it with a reference number for the case and get back to you faster.
That was what I did and even after installation they were calling me confirm if av been sorted out.

I sent an email yesterday night but the number i used was my Airtel number not the alternate I used for the odu registration but have requote the email with the alternate I used while registering the odu
Hopefully something positive will come up

Now after calling the installer days after the payment he said while registering for the line they run to one issue like that and can only be fixed backend same story have been hearing for days now I just keep refreshing my mail for line confirmation nothing of such yet

Go to device management, click on developer option and put in your password. You'll see the band locking option there.
System>developer options> input password and voila.

From what I heard, ODUs that have hybrid sims (Esim and physical sim) were giving them serious problems, and that's why they have now introduced one that doesn't come with Esim. The new one they started issuing this week has no Esim.

Which band do you lock to for better performance?

I'm locked to all bands. If your performance is poor, you could turn your antenna to face a different direction. My initial signal on installation was -84db which was very poor, so I mounted on my dstv dish and turned it facing another direction now I have -67db which is way better.

Mind you, this won't save you from the regular downtime you get from Airtel(Happens like once in a month or two and you could be out for upnto 1 week). Actually nothing can save you when it's your turn to suffer 😬

No, it's the ZLT, but the IDU is white, not black.

So they register in people's absence? Aren't they supposed to send a message to your alternate number and get the confirmation from you as the first step?

Better only physical sim than only esim. But I think the new device could be ZLT X17m (which has a white IDU). I would prefer the X17m pro, the first batch they sold with black IDU; but na free device, so anything goes. The ZLTs have good IDUs by the way. But that ZTE G5F is a more modern device.

Oh, I thought that black one had X17m pro as ODU.

You know the normal 5G router we all talk about here has two versions - X25 and X25 pro - and you won't tell the difference by merely looking at them.

Then they showed their manager, who was standing nearby. He told them that it would fail, and that they should swap the line with a physical sim. Once that was done, they said I should go, that it would work. I then insisted on testing it before leaving. So, the manager himself inserted the sim inside the device and asked me to connect to it. Once I made sure that it was browsing, I left.

I also like the fact that you chose ZTE.

So it is now 100% confirmed that it also works with external sim too, as @Akin had suggested earlier.

There's no Airtel base station anywhere near my estate, and from what I have read about the ZTE ODU, it has a better antenna than the ZLT. The only drawback is its IDU, which doesn't support WiFi 6.

I see. You also have a starlink, how are you shuttling both? Do you pay for subscription for both at same time?

I was looking to replace the Airtel with my Starlink but was forced to activate mine when Airtel was out for 1 week. I am currently using both, trying to decide if it's worth taking the risk with Airtel. How is your experience so far?

My Starlink is also active. I can't cancel because I won't be able to get back on it, as Abuja has reached capacity.

Starlink performance has been terrible in Abuja for the past few weeks, so I use the Airtel mainly for Streaming stuff that Starlink is unable to.

Unfortunately, the resources dedicated to Africa by Starlink isn't much compared to Europe, Americas and other parts of the world. TBH, it's understandable given the difference in what we pay.

The good thing about Starlink is, there's virtually no downtime. It becomes quite slow during daytime, but still works.

If you're in the remote part of North you don't even experience that slow network during the day it's just flawless

This is what I got after doing a speedtest some minutes ago. I put both ODU around the same location

The first is the ZLT ODU
The second is the ZTE ODU
Both are comparable

Exactly. If I take my Starlink to my hometown, I'll probably be doing 300Mbps day and Night.
