The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reacted to the list in circulation over its recruitment for the Superintendent Cadre.

In a statement on Wednesday, the service said all official updates regarding the recruitment exercise were communicated directly to shortlisted applicants through the NCS Recruitment Update Portal.

“The Service wishes to categorically state that the publication did not originate from the Nigeria Customs Service or any of its authorised communication channels.”

“Members of the public, particularly applicants in the ongoing recruitment exercise, are therefore advised to disregard the circulating information in its entirety.

“For clarity, the NCS recruitment process commenced with an official advertisement on 27th December 2024, through which a total of 573,523 applications were received across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. Following a rigorous documentary screening, 286,697 candidates were shortlisted and invited to participate in the first phase of the Computer-Based Test (CBT), which was conducted in batches to ensure fairness and system efficiency.

“While candidates from all cadres participated in the initial CBT, only successful applicants under the Superintendent Cadre were invited to proceed to the second phase of the test.

“This stage, which will hold across designated centres within the six geopolitical zones, aligns with candidates’ states of origin and forms part of the Service’s commitment to transparency, merit, and inclusiveness in its recruitment process.”

The Service said it remains firmly committed to a free, fair, and credible selection process, consistent with global best practices and in line with the principle of Federal Character.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawan Hussaini Dala, had raised alarm over what he described as a gross injustice and imbalance in the ongoing recruitment exercise by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), alleging that the process favoured the southern part of the country.

Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Hon. Dala said the recruitment exercise violated the principles of Federal Character.

He said whereas there ought to be fairness and equal representation in federal appointments and employments, the recruitment was designed to favour a section of the country against the other.

“I am on this floor to challenge the way and manner the recruitment exercise is going on at the Nigeria Customs Service. To us, there is injustice, the Federal Character that was saddled with the responsibility of ensuring equitable sharing of rights wasn’t considered,” he stated.

According to him, a total of 1,785 candidates were recruited nationwide, but the distribution of the slots heavily favoured states in the South-West, particularly Lagos and Ogun States, which he said received a disproportionately higher share.

“Lagos alone got 207, Ogun 145, Ondo 132, Osun 127, Oyo 108, and Ekiti, which is not more than Nasarawa Local Government in Kano, got 93. Altogether, the South-West got 812 slots, more than half of the total number of recruits in the entire country,” Dala lamented.

He contrasted this with the allocations given to states in the North-West, describing the disparity as “unacceptable and unjustifiable.”

“In the North-West, Kano got only 31, Katsina 20, Jigawa 18, and Zamfara 16. Altogether, the entire region got only about 7 percent of the total number recruited,” he said.

The lawmaker further revealed that across the northern region, only 651 slots were allotted, while the bulk of the opportunities went to states in the southern part of the country.

The Speaker of the House had directed the relevant House Committee to investigate the recruitment figures and report back for further legislative action.

This is one of the problems tribal bigotry as instituted by APC will lead to
Mutual distrust and suspicion and viewing everything through tribal lens
But more importantly, my main focus is how the Federal service is being bloated by these ethnic champions
In 2021, there were also cries of regional lopsidedness in same customs recruitment from the south. Now 4 years later, the north is crying when it seems like the south is returning the favour. In all these, there's no regard for the number being employed if the agency really has need for such numbers. The focus is on how many tribal slots are available to be filled.
Meanwhile, even with the tribal colouration, bribes are still flying left, right and centre!!
How do you build a strong and viable nation this way?!!

So basically they have not employed anyone yet! If anything what this shows is those from Lagos and ogun are more likely to be rejected than those from Kano since they have more applicants.

Whenever you see "free, fair and credible" in any comment by a Nigerian government agency, just know that every other thing they say will be false.
INEC is a living proof.
They won't teach you this in school.
Re: Customs react over alleged higher recruitment slots for Lagos, Ogun States by runningriot: 12:21pm On Oct 30, 2025
The nepotism, favouritism and chauvinistic attitude of this government in place is too glaring. This act and actions lack total coherence and contributes to lack of faith in one Nigeria. We are not saying merit should be sacrificed at the altar of mediocracy but not at the expense of national integration, true representation of Federal character and unity. However, if the same voice and energy was used to rebuke and reprehend late president Buhari all this madness wouldn't have been happening. But even the person that posted this, is guilty since his voice went silent during the era of Buhari's regime in his lopsided appointments and never to be forgotten too soon the DSS recruitment. Nevertheless, this is not an excuse to be continued under president Tinubu.

The question is, why are much people from the north no pass the CBT exams. During Hamed Ali, these senators no talk on recruitment slots. For me, Let the best candidates be employed from any part of the country. Curruption in customs must stop.

Hypocrites any small thing dem shout...how much is north contributing to Nigeria?

Who have the oil?

Who have the highest VAT?

If north had all these things they would never agree to share with southern Nigeria the way we share with them.

Full resources control now.

There is a fierce Anti SW misinformation Propaganda Campaign going on SM and the usual suspects are behind it.
Only 2 days ago they were lying that $1 Billion was to be Spent on Lagos ports alone instead of admitting that the money was for all the Major ports

2 weeks ago they were lying that the LASG had no right to demolish buildings In Trade fair market then they later retreated and were pleading for empathy

Yesterday they were claiming the front of a man's shop was demolished because of his Tribe.
Then his neighbours produced photos to show other affected buildings and the Misinformation Brigade went silent

Watch the defence closely, education plays a very important role in this. You knowhow to use CBT and you have an added advantage with SW may have other North unlike old ways of just submit and application and then bribe your way through because someone recommended someone.
Re: Customs react over alleged higher recruitment slots for Lagos, Ogun States by Kewekubosineh: 12:39pm On Oct 30, 2025
North is hypocritical.

Even though, I am not a fan of Tinubu,he should not be accused of nepotism. Buhari started it.

Buhari appointed Col Alli as Customs Boss without requisite qualifications. The Colonel made sure appointments were skewed to favour the North. You go every office, it's officers of northern extraction you will see.

Except Audit or other departments requiring skill you will find few Southern officers. It was glaring because Hausa became "Lingua franca"in the offices. This tells you the population of northern staffs in the departments.

KANO should stop the nonsense of criticizing policies of Tinubu's administration. They didn't criticize when Buhari was in power and when everything was going in their favour.

Tinubu should think restructuring the country so that Kano and her Sharia brothers won't be superimposing their wishes on the rest of the country.

The era where South are consigned to hewers of woods is gone!

Stop wasting your time as a civilian applying for custom, immigration, Dss, cbn, and other high profile federal jobs if you have no prominent political to give you the slots.

This guy's are not serious. Let do the statistics of all employees of Nigeria Army, Immigration, Police and Civil defense. I mean by Regions and states. Let see the statistics. The north will always cry anytime things didn't favor them.

Bleep
Na lack of common s—— dey do una. If you have 50 slots from each state for example and one state has 1000 applicants and the other has 200. If you cut off half in the 1st round, you will have 500 from one state and 100 from the 2nd. It doesn’t mean they are going to employ the 500, it just means 500 made round 2. Of that 500, 450 are still going to cry because the slot for that state is 50, whether 100 applies or 1m.

If anything it shows you are more likely to be employed if you come from Kano than if you come from Lagos or Ogun.

They have not employed anyone. This is just the number that passed the 1st round.
