The north.

The north.
The north
Obj cleared all the debts and when yar adua took over, guess what, the debts started to pile again.
They have little idea how to rule but they love to rule cos they believe they are born to. Buhari came and borrowed and borrowed and even printed money! Can you imagine...the surprising thing if all is the "genius" from the south in charge now still borrowing!!!!? So unbelievable!!
Debts pile up because oil prices are never where we want them to be. That means deficit in our budget and thus borrowing.

Also tax to gdp is too low for a nation our size.

It's not because Yaradua and north.

Like now we are taking loans under a southerner because oil was expected to be above 75 dollars per barrel this year , instead it has been below 70 dollars . That means we are loosing at least 5 dollars per barrel of oil..
So loans

Same issues under GEJ

Before CHANGE took over Nigeria, things were not perfect but the country was alive.

There was light at the end of the tunnel.

There was structure.
There was direction.
And, most importantly, there was hope.

From 1999, Obasanjo worked to clean Nigeria’s international image.

He cleared debts, rebuilt our foreign reserves, and opened Nigeria to the world again.

Yar’Adua came with a quiet mind

not loud, not flashy but he had a vision.

He started the Niger Delta Amnesty Program, began true electoral reforms, and stabilized oil production.

The best president Nigeria will ever had

Then came Goodluck Jonathan.

For the first time, Nigerians saw power transition peacefully.

We had a president who valued intellect who surrounded himself with experts,
not noise-makers.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala managed the economy with global respect.

The naira was stable.

Investors trusted us.

Tech startups began to rise.
Airports were improving.

Even fuel scarcity wasn’t a daily nightmare.

Nigeria was not heaven but you could dream.

You could plan.

You could save money and know what it was worth next month.

₦500,000 in 2014 meant something.

Then came 2015.

The “change” that changed everything.

The same Nigeria that was finding its feet suddenly lost balance.

Policies started to clash.

Foreign investors ran.

The dollar jumped from ₦150 to ₦500 in one presidency.

Inflation went wild.

Unemployment tripled.

The naira was devalued beyond control.

People started migrating (japa) not for luxury, but for survival.

And that’s where the real question lies:

What exactly happened?

How did a country that was becoming Africa’s biggest economy and pride suddenly become a begging economy?

Was it mismanagement?

Was it sabotage?

Or was Nigeria’s growth simply a threat to powers beyond our borders?

Yeah Jonathan’s government may had its flaws, but there was a sense of peace.

The economy was functional.

There was dialogue.

So how did everything collapse right after “change” came?

Today, the same “change” has changed our reality completely.

A bag of rice that was ₦8,000 now costs ₦70,000.

A dollar that was ₦150 is now ₦1,200.

A country that once gave others hope can’t even feed its own.

Sometimes I sit and wonder

maybe we didn’t just vote out a man in 2015,
maybe we voted out our future.

As a Nigerian, it’s painful to look back and remember that there was a time when one dollar was just ₦150.

Now, it’s over ₦1,000 and still climbing.

A time when ₦5,000 could fill your tank, when ₦500,000 could build something, and when hope still meant something.

Today, the numbers don’t just show inflation they show how far we’ve fallen.

The saddest part?

We’re not even shocked anymore.

We’ve normalized suffering.

No Nigeria deserved the Nigeria struggle
Lol. You guys are just advertising for your side.

You are like the tinubuist

Nigeria went wrong because at independence we decided to run an economy based on selling raw materials and using the revenue to import and import.

Simple

Ahmadu Bello kept threatening the peace of the country then for no reason at all.....

He kept spreading hate and tribalism. It was so unfortunate. But this ain't the answer to the ops question...cos even at the 1970s,early 80s,the country was still ok.
In the 1970s and early 80s oil prices were high.

That's why things seemed ok.

Till oil crashed in 1982. By 1983, shagari was announcing austerity measures. For the rest of the 1980s times were hard

Bro Nigeria ain't the only African country that has oil, what about Libya? What about African countries like Tunisia that got no oil but who's currencies are almost at par with the dollar?

This is how we are gonna be defending our own oppressors to the detriment of ourselves and generations

And for all the years of oil, diversification remained a mirage....when GEJ brought cassava flour bread, you people said all this and that...

Since we have refused to diversify especially into agriculture,we will keep speaking English!

The day the lifeless one "Buhari" Emerge as President, Nigeria retrogression set in. It's destined so long as we remain as one. A people of different ideology and philosophy towards life cannot forge successful future. It has never happened anywhere in the world. What success is to the north, is different from what it is to the south.

And Ronus, the clog in the wheel of Southern libration need to be worked out first. Else, there was a country.
Bolded is well said. I agree
