EFCC Arraign Borno Man Over ₦4.2 Million Fraud, Misappropriation by SJMag1(op): 9:06am On Oct 30, 2025
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, has arraigned Muhammad Umar before Justice Aisha Ibrahim of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, over allegations of obtaining money by false pretence and criminal misappropriation involving N4.2 million.

According to a statement posted by the EFCC on X on Wednesday, the defendant was arraigned on Tuesday, October 28, on a two-count charge bordering on fraud and misappropriation.

One of the counts reads: “That you, Muhammad Umar, with the bank verification number 22530268934, sometime in March 2025 in Maiduguri, Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N4,200,000 (Four Million Two Hundred Thousand Naira) from one Abubakar Kaumi.”

The charge further stated that Umar allegedly deceived Kaumi into believing the money would be used to purchase a property located at Bolori Ward, Maiduguri, a claim the EFCC said he knew to be false. His actions were said to constitute an offence contrary to Section 1, punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when read before the court.

Following the plea, EFCC prosecuting counsel, S. O. Saka, applied for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility pending trial.

Justice Ibrahim granted the request, ordering that Umar be remanded at a Correctional Centre and adjourning the case to November 3, 2025, for the commencement of trial.

In a related development, the EFCC recently announced the recovery and handover of three properties, two luxury vehicles, and ₦1.1 million seized from a self-acclaimed spiritualist and fraudster, Fatai Olalere All.

The Commission also arraigned a vessel, MT Ostria, alongside three individuals in Lagos, over alleged petroleum theft involving more than 25 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, belonging to NNPC Retail Limited.

Million and not Billion. EFCC self. Those that stole our common wealth in Billions and Trillion are there and you are busy pursuing rats. God forbid

I think it's time to segment these things. Matters not upto N100 Million should go somewhere else.

When we hear EFCC we want to see figures not N4M that is less than $5000

Dear Nlanders,

If you are seeing this, it means by eleven O'clock (11pm) today, I will be no more.

To my parents, siblings and love ones I am really sorry to disappoint y'all. I never planned to follow this part, but it has gotten beyond my control. Ever since I lost my job 5 months ago, life has not been easy for me. No one cares if you exist or not. I have tried to get another job but I can't. I managed to eat once a day begging for food. Behind the dressing and smiling in public lies a depressing and frustrated soul.

All I wanted was love, words of encouragement, assurances, advice and prayers but I get none from even people close to me. I'm tired and depressed. Can't take it any longer.

Please call and tell me you love me let me go home with it. To those who I have wrong and offended in one way or the other, I'm deeply sorry. Forgive me.

If he scammed a corrupt politician now, it would be a different thing, but 4m is a lifetime savings that most hard-working Nigerians don't have.
