The higher the customers, the higher the revenue that will be generated. Based on this premise, suffice to say that Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company is the richest of them all. |

It shows likely most Kano residents are not metered and are enjoying free electricity. Else this number should be more than both EKO, Ikeja and Ibadan electricity distribution companies combined. |

The North said they have massive population. It didn't show up on this data or is their population for election rigging or cornering of the Nigeria's resources alone? |
| Re: Total Number Of Customers Across Nigeria’s Electricity Distribution Companies by Omihanifa: 4:04pm On Oct 30, 2025 |
This is actually the number of documented customers. There's are so many buildings in nigeria that are not registered and yet benefit from the national grid. If you go up north, one house fit register with disco, and he will be supplying light to other houses. It's a common practice in niger state. The only way discos can get the accurate figure is by installing smart electricity meters for everyone |

I still believe Nigeria population isn't up to 200 million. Our census is so flawed with fake figures flying around just for political gains and manoeuvring. Even our elections with total number of voter turn out attest to the fake population figures. |

There is a huge deficit in this sector when it comes to revenue generation, they keep increasing tariffs when they are suppose to find a way to make it all inclusive to generate more money. I can't even mathematically approximate it to 13 million Nigerians out of over 200million. If 50 million people were to pay for electricity it won't warrant to increments of electricity bill. DrMB: |

mrlycan:Are you saying each person will be a customer? So if a family of 5 own a 3 bedroom flat. Do you expect each of their customers to be a customer of DISCOs? Also you mean previous regime provided the customer base and Tinubu ensured the customers deplete or what? Dey read before commenting online nao. |

IBEDC is the largest company, yet the worst invested. Customers literally have to buy transformers, cables and other electrification materials themselves to be able to use light. |

moscow007:You meant to say , number of household in urban and city centres...and maybe some rural areas? What of other households in villages , where electricity has not reached? Also, number of household, is not equivalent to population of the household. So, we can't use this as a representative of census |

Oyo is a massive State. How come Lagos, Kano etc appear quite low. Kano,Kaduna, and Oyo are very similar in average per capita income levels, yet according this electricity data Oyo has nearly 4 times more electricity customers than Kano. Yet, according to Nigeria's abracadabra population statistics Kano is more populated than Oyo and was given more local governments than Oyo ![]() The level of injustice perpetrated by past military governments in this country is serious. This electricity statistics is even more reliable that the number of sim cards registered per state since one individual can have multiple sims. |

Medoo:That sector needs fresh investment. Majority of these discos don't have the technical and financial power to turn things around. Most of the infrastructures are already old. |

Hemanwel:What are the customers using? You can't compare a customer in his small brown leaking roof home with only a radio and his phone charging points to the customer in Aba who has AC's and refrigerator plus pressing iron in his apartment. 🥱🥱🥱 |

Also, I am yet to see any data that supports the claim that Lagos has 25 million people. According to this electricity statistics, the state has fewer electricity customers than Oyo. Even if one allows for the higher population density per house in Lagos, the lower number of electricity customers doesn't support the claim that there are over 25m people in Lagos. The usually relatively low number of voter turn outs during elections also undermine the 25m population claim. |

It's either a lot of the people in the North do not have access to electricity or the Northern population is over inflated. Also Lagos is a bit surprising, the two Lagos Discos is not even up to 1.5m people despite Lagos having the most people and highest electricity access? Small Abuja has more customers than the whole of Lagos? I know IBEDC serves the whole of Oyo and Ogun and parts of Ondo States I think so no surprise there. BEDC serves Delta, Edo and parts of Ondo too |

Smartcitizen:What is the population of the man with AC in Aba to the man with AC in Ibadan? Oh, you think the picture of the brown roof is what defines the totality of Ibadan? That's narrow-minded though! The population of those with AC in Ibadan will swallow that of Aba and change go still remain. . Mind you, that small brown leaking roof house with his hot plate might actually be consuming close to the house with AC but cooks with gas. Electricity consumption pattern is dynamic. |
