SaharaReporters had exclusively reported the arrest and subsequent detention of the senior military officers led by an Army Brigadier General for planning a coup on October 1st Independent Day celebrations.

An officer of the Nigerian Navy, Lieutenant Commander B Abdullahi, has been identified as one of the senior military officers detained by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for allegedly planning a coup d’etat to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

While the Nigerian military in a statement claimed the detention of the officers was linked to "repeated failure in promotion examinations and perceived career stagnation", top sources had revealed that they were actually arrested over a coup plot.

A top source from the Nigerian military authorities told SaharaReporters on Thursday that a Naval officer and two Air Force personnel are among the detained officers, while the others are from the Nigerian Army.

The authoritative source identified the Navy personnel as Lt Commander B Abdullahi.

Abdullahi is of the 56 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

The detained officers, drawn from the army, navy, and air force, have been held for over three weeks in an undisclosed Abuja facility under what sources described as “unusual and suspicious conditions.”

Family members had told SaharaReporters they initially believed their relatives had been kidnapped, as there was no official communication from the military regarding their arrests.

Earlier, SaharaReporters had revealed one of the alleged leaders of the plot as one Lieutenant Colonel Al-Makura.

“Like I told you earlier, it was trio service. Two Air Force personnel. One from Bayelsa State and the other from Jigawa. Also, a Naval Officer was arrested, he is B Abdullahi (56RC),” the source told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters reported exclusively on Tuesday how some Nigerian Army personnel raided the Abuja residence of former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr Timipre Sylva, in connection with the alleged coup plot currently under investigation by the DIA.

Multiple security sources told the newspaper that the army raid occurred at Sylva’s home in the Maitama area of Abuja.

According to insiders, a “special military team” carried out the operation after intelligence linked the “former South-South governor” to secret meetings allegedly held with some of the detained military officers.

“Nigerian Army special team ransacked the home of Timipre Sylva, who is believed to have fled Nigeria,” one top source familiar with the development had told SaharaReporters.

“He is the South-South former governor frequently mentioned in the case. His brother, named Paga, was picked up during the raid. The operation also extended to his Bayelsa residence.”

However, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Julius Bokoru, Sylva dismissed claims that he fled the country to evade questioning, clarifying that he has been abroad for a routine medical check-up and a professional engagement.

Bokoru added that the former minister’s Abuja home suffered significant damage during the raid, adding that no clear reason or authorisation had been provided by the security personnel involved.

“Despite sustained efforts, I have been unable to ascertain the reasons or authorisation for this raid. The officers did not provide any categorical explanation for their actions, either at the time or subsequently,” he had said.

I still find this coup plot story like a hoax because only a mentally challenged officer or a drug addict would think a coup plot would succeed.
So they would move tanks for example from Ojo cantonment to Governors house in Lagos and believe that simultaneously formations in Abuja would move same to Aso Rock?
I honestly believe there is a witch hunt going on or that at best these were just discussions of a few drunken people and someone out for them now overblew it and reported it as a coup.

The reason the story said it was planned to happen same time the independence parade, it would have been difficult to figure what was going on as we may just think it's part of activities in preparation for the parade.
Anyways, time shall tell if it's a hoax a true.

Guy forget that story.
Someone in the military wants to benefit from this made up tale.
It's even possible that other generals eyeing the service chief posts came up with this so they can be sacked.Which better way to have a genuine reason to sack them than a coup story.
Check it yourself.Do tanks get paraded any longer on independence day?How are the officers sure they were to BD on duty on independence day?How would they have got to Tinubu and if they did,they would overcome the heavy DSS security and kill them with ak47?
Critically look into the story and imagine how possible it would have been to succeed.
If any person was serious of killing Tinubu and not a coup because killing him is not even a guarantee a coup would succeed,is to to have him poisoned one way or the other.
You can't in today's Nigeria stage a successful coup because the society is heavily politicized and polarised.
This is a staged coup attempt and not an actual coup.I am 150% sure of it.
Another clue:trying to link funds said to have been channelled to Silva as the money to be used for the coup.To buy weapons,tanks or aircraft you ask yourself.
So any reasonable and not mentally sick officer would risk his life and career over say a promise of 500m in a scheme that is more likely to fail than succeed?
The story tellers can f ool gullible Nigerians, not me.

The planned is to take out number 1 to number 4 highest ranked politicians in Nigeria, that's to say they planned to kill Tinubu,Shetima Akpabio, Speaker of the house etc

After Succeeding in their assassination, Nigeria would be in total chaos and no one would actually be in charge because number 1 to number 4 highest ranked are all dead their following plan is to probably hijack power in the ensueing Chaos, they probably also plan to use the Chaos to convince the entire military leadership to support the coup.
