I don't think it's really the value of the tax that matters,its the value of what's left after the salary deductions.Our taxation is among the lowest in the world.For example,our VAT is 7.5% and the world average is around 20%.If countries like Russia and Norway which are larger energy producers and exporters have VAT of over 20%, it actually doesn't make any economic sense for Nigeria to be charging below 20% as VAT.

The current FX rate doesn't support increase in taxes.I wrote here some weeks back,that #1450 fx is nonsense and can't produce the desired results of the economic reforms of this current administration.I have just being vindicated by Taiwo Oyedele that the 5% fuel tax won't be implemented until fx goes up.fx of #800 is what is needed in our current economic realities.At #800 fx, PMS retail price would be around #400,if u implement 20% vat it would amount to around #480,which is a far better price than the current #900 for PMS.The govt needs to boost Crude oil production to support our fx rates.

This will even get worse for Nigerian starting from 2026 when this government starts collecting more money from people's salary in the name of new tax reform.
So brace up for tax without social benefits for the masses

Invariably, Nigeria is the number one on the list
