You should also be inviting the owners of Nairaland for harbouring characters such as that on their platform, while also tolerating the open display of TREASONABLE FELONY.

Nobody wants military but when democracy fails, it's inevitable.
Democracy has not failed, unless you were thinking it was some silver bullet, which it isn't.

givedemwotowoto:
You're focusing on the wrong people. Focus your energy on the people destroying democracy.
I am focusing on us the people, who are supposed to practice the democracy that you are saying we have failed at, but which I disagree.

givedemwotowoto:
I have said this multiple times, if you don't give your children food, they will go to school and steal or beg or find some food. It's inevitable.
But you are not the children of the government that you elect, so why should your government feed you?

givedemwotowoto:
Nobody rules a country successfully if majority of the populace doesn't want them.
Last time I checked, the current rulers of Nigeria were elected by a majority of voters, so it can not be true that the majority of the populace doesn't want them especially if the majority of the populace did not bother to vote whom they want.

givedemwotowoto:
Trying to force themselves on the majority immediately enshrines dictatorship. Isn't that a failure of democracy?
We had an election and the current government got the majority of the votes, so you lie when you claim they enshrined a dictatorship. But if you say democracy failed, I'll take it as an admission that you did not bother to vote, or can't stand that your preferred candidate lost.

For your information, my preferred candidate Peter Obi lost too, but a coup is not my preferred solution.

The below is my tentative response to what I think will be your response.

Why should any sane Igbo person join your nepotic and corrupt-ridden military? There are lots of Igbos in the US Army and they are some of the highest ranked officers, there are even Igbos fighting in the Ukraine-Russia wars on both sides, and they are better off there than in your useless army of boys scouts.

Democracy has not failed, unless you were thinking it was some silver bullet, which it isn't.
What will convince you that democracy has failed? When you see the country in flames? That's not exactly when democracy failed. There are key indicators that democracy has failed, let me list the major ones for you:

1. When Rule of law has eroded: political elites become above the law, little to no consequence for corruption or abuse of power
2. Election Manipulation: Election is no longer free and fair, and majority of the country no longer believe their votes count. They believe it is manipulated. Opposition is harrased, threatened etc. Media outlets become government controlled and manipulated (directly and indirectly)
3. Free Speech is suppressed: Journalists are censored, threatened, jailed.
4. Power is concentrated on one arm of government, in most cases, the executive. The other arms are weak and controlled by one.
5. Weak Institutions: like electoral body, judiciary, anti-corruption agencies. Agencies who are supposed to checkmate abuse of office and stabilize democracy.
6. Corruption and Impunity: Public office becomes personal business. An average person goes into office and becomes a multimillionaire or billionaire, and this is happening almost everywhere.
7. Intolerance to Opposition: Peaceful Protests are violently suppressed. Critics are labeled "enemies of state" and so on.
8. Weaponization of Tribe, Religion, Region: Politicians divide the citizens along these lines to stay in power
9. Public Trust Collapses: People no longer believe their participation matters, government captures or destabilizes or silences opposition
10. No Accountability, No Transparency: Government makes decisions behind closed doors, no public input, no transparency with budgets, project execution, contract awards and so on.
11. Fear is normalized. People become afraid to demand justice. Victims of oppression and injustice "move on" rather than seek justice.

Tell me, is there any of these things listed that Nigeria is still doing well on? You don't need a soothsayer to tell you that democracy has failed in Nigeria. All the above criteria has been met. You probably are the one of the few people who haven't realized this.

I am focusing on us the people, who are supposed to practice the democracy that you are saying we have failed at, but which I disagree.
Everyone has limits. If you have an agreement with someone but you continue cheating them over and over, they will eventually get to their limit of tolerance. Since you have broken your own part of the agreement over and over, at some point you will see the other side of them. "Cause and Effect".

But you are not the children of the government that you elect, so why should your government feed you?
My example of child and father was only an illustration meant to describe "Cause and Effect". If you do 1 + 1, you will get 2. You don't do 1 + 1 and hope to get 5. What you're doing currently is hoping for a 5 when your country has done 1 + 1.

Last time I checked, the current rulers of Nigeria were elected by a majority of voters, so it can not be true that the majority of the populace doesn't want them especially if the majority of the populace did not bother to vote whom they want.
Why don't you poll majority of Nigerians from North to South and ask how many of them believe that the election was free and fair. Mathematically even, most Nigerians voted against Tinubu. He has done poorly, now he's capturing the state. Check the 11 Criteria I listed, we have now met all criteria for a failed democracy.

Check every Democratically Elected President since 1999, only this particular government has met ALL 11 Criteria for a failed democracy.

We had an election and the current government got the majority of the votes, so you lie when you claim they enshrined a dictatorship. But if you say democracy failed, I'll take it as an admission that you did not bother to vote, or can't stand that your preferred candidate lost.
The current government didn't get the majority of votes. They got the most votes of all candidates, but not the majority votes of Nigerians. They are ruling the majority of Nigerians with minority votes. You may say that opposition should unite, not when the state has captured and weakened opposition. Check the 11 criteria I listed again. No other government since 1999 has done that.

For your information, my preferred candidate Peter Obi lost too, but a coup is not my preferred solution.
At this point I want to tell you that you're still focusing on the wrong thing, but it looks like you want to be heard, so I'll tell you this: I hear you. You want to focus your effort on convincing Nigerians to try again with more unity this time. The problem however is, you'll become more and more frustrated. Why? Because it's already late. This government has reached the point of a failed democracy. It has divided Nigerians, the last straw being the division along tribal lines. This present government has crossed that "Failed Democracy" ribbon if you check all these 11 criteria. It's just a matter of time now.

We all know coup is the only system you will run in your Biafra just like Equitorial Guinea, so why not take yourselves out so you can live your dream? Yorubaland will never again be part of a military regime we will use democratic system to choose our leaders. That’s the difference between noble and primitive people.

Putindbutt:
What they will call what?. Listen, whether or not it is fake news or true, the coup did not succeed, infact, it was just a rumour of planning a coup, There was nothing actionable or concrete that had been done. No blood shed, no killings, no hijack, no movements, no deployment, NoTHiNg whatsoever!. So, don't compare with the 1966 that was the first and bloodiest in the history of the country and the event that damaged the unity and brotherhood of the military.
So you still believe Ibo plan the first coup in Nigeria because it had the face of an Ibo leader? The joke on you when you read bias history and listen to mainstream media. No wonder they wiped away History from schools.

givedemwotowoto:
What will convince you that democracy has failed?
To be honest, nothing will convince me at the moment.

Everything you've listed is, if true, for this current government, which we thankfully have the opportunity to vote out at the next election if we don't like them, which will not be the case if you have a coup.

givedemwotowoto:
You don't need a soothsayer to tell you that democracy has failed in Nigeria.
A soothsayer will do much worse than you are currently doing, I must say.

Nigeria has been a democracy for less than 30 years, and only with the election of Tinubu did we really get the first non-military leader, so I'd say we've only just begun and need time.

America, that has been democratic for ten times we have, elected that horrible worst than any Nigerian president dump!

givedemwotowoto:
Everyone has limits. If you have an agreement with someone but you continue cheating them over and over, they will eventually get to their limit of tolerance. Since you have broken your own part of the agreement over and over, at some point you will see the other side of them. "Cause and Effect".
And this is why you should have democracy, so you can vote them out and vote someone else if you don't like the current ones. You do know you don't have that option with military rule after a coup, right?

And to be sincere, you didn't have any agreement with your current government. They gave you a loaf of bread and a congo of rice and you sold them your vote and now moan.

givedemwotowoto:
Why don't you poll majority of Nigerians from North to South and ask how many of them believe that the election was free and fair.
I was expecting this, and I'm not buying, unless you are presenting it as evidence that we don't yet know how to conduct free and fair elections, in which case, we should go and learn to count better instead of giving up and letting some coup plotters who don't bother with elections to rule over us.

givedemwotowoto:
Check every Democratically Elected President since 1999, only this particular government has met ALL 11 Criteria for a failed democracy.
Assuming this is true, you now want to abandon democracy because of this supposedly one bad Democratically Elected President?

You give up too easy in my book.

givedemwotowoto:
The current government didn't get the majority of votes. They got the most votes of all candidates, but not the majority votes of Nigerians.
Now, this is why my last response ended with an image.

Less than 12 million elected the current government. 20 million voted in total. The rest stayed at home and couldn't be bothered and are now crying that fools elected their government.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for the wailing. Next time get off your ass and vote.

givedemwotowoto:
At this point I want to tell you that you're still focusing on the wrong thing, but it looks like you want to be heard, so I'll tell you this: I hear you. You want to focus your effort on convincing Nigerians to try again with more unity this time. The problem however is, you'll become more and more frustrated. Why? Because it's already late.
First, you can't "tell me". You can only say what you want and hopefully be heard by me. And no, I don't particularly care if you hear me or not, though I do appreciate the fact that you are considering what I have to say.

Second, democracy does not require unity. I vote for my candidate and you vote for yours, and the one with the most votes rules. If I needed unity I'd tell you you must vote for my own candidate.

As for frustrated, rust me when I tell you that is impossible.

You don't know how resilient I am and you think I easily give up like you who wants a coup after just a few years of a supposedly bad government. While I think we might finally use our heads to elect a good government in 2125. So grab a seat and some popcorn. We've only just begun.

givedemwotowoto:
This government has reached the point of a failed democracy. It has divided Nigerians, the last straw being the division along tribal lines.
Democracy is government by the people, so if the government has reached the point of failure, it is we the people that have failed. I don't agree we have failed.

If some people divide you along tribal lines, perhaps you need to start taking responsibility for letting them. i am not divided along any tribal lines, and if I am it is I who is stupïd.

Vote for Peter Obi please. He is not from my tribe.

If I were the President or anyone close to him I'd advise he mellow down on these policies that appear good on paper but inflicts suffering on the masses. These coup plotters are just few among millions not satisfied with the state of hunger and insecurity in the country. Fighting insecurity starts with fighting hunger as hungry people are highly vulnerable recruits into terror and criminal gangs.
Succinctly stated.

More CNG fuel infrastructure MUST be deployed around Nigeria to make the cheaper CNG fuel available to crash the price of all food items and transportation urgently so that these insidious 5th columnists don't use that as an excuse to foist military dictators with criminal backgrounds on Nigeria. The cost of living has to drop and this is why President 'Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has been saying that he has given more money to the Nigerian States from N4 billion monthly to N11 billion monthly per State oñ average which is huge!
The crashing of food prices via increased agriculture and cutting off of the middle men is within the purview of all the State Governors. This is what the Yobe and Niger State Governors have done to crash the price of food and reduce inflation rate to near 1 digit.
All the State Governors MUST be told to wake up and do the needful.

Lagos State too has launched 150 CNG-FUELED food haulage trucks for the Lagos Food Hub program to crash the price of food by 50% of the current value through the Commissioner for Agriculture Ms Abisola Olusanya.

As for States creations, I think boundary adjustments can be made so that ethnically contiguous groups can be in 1 single State of their own. For example, the Yoruba towns of Kogi State and Kwara State (12 of the 16 LGAs of Kwara are indigenous to Yorubas) right up to Jebba on the banks of the River Niger can be merged to form a single State. Then the Nupes who are indigenous to 2 out of the 16 LGAs in Kwara State can be merged with Niger State or create a new Nupe State for them.

Other ethnic groups of Nigeria can undergo the same boundary adjustments to bring about more harmony.

This is crazy and should be totally frowned against by all Nigerians. The northerners want power at all cost yet, their reigns heave been the most disastrous. You've been in power for 8 years and barely two years, they are gunning for power again in the crookedest way possible.

If I were Tinubu, at the end of my term, I won't handover power to a northerner.

It's not a Northern affair, same way some brave soldiers from the East plan and executed a coup in 1966 with collaboration from a few outside elements, it's the same today.

But why should army chiefs be removed because these ones plotted coup.
They helped expose the coup. Yet the government gave excuses by saying their removal is not because of the coup.
The ones replaced will be afraid to expose any coup plot since they know what awaits their fate if they expose any
replacing of service chiefs has nothing to do with the coup. Is a normal routine to rotate service chiefs atleast within 2years.

Anyone planning coup in Nigeria is a F00l. There are some countries coup will not stand. Big countries like Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt. The president, no matter how much U dislike him is not unpopular. He is tremendously popular and has huge followership both among the elites and common people. U think U will do a coup and the people will just sit and look like the president doesnt have huge followers? IT WON'T WORK!!
There will be serious blood flow in the country and the country will break up, unless that's your main aim as a coupist.
COUP IN NIGERIA WILL NOT STAND.
Egypt is prone to a coup.
