Nigerian rapper Oladips has made explosive allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming the anti-graft agency extorted ₦10 million from him before securing his release from custody.

The hip-hop artist shared the revelation during an appearance on the Trending Podcast, nearly one year after his controversial arrest in November 2024. According to Oladips, EFCC operatives stormed his estate during a midnight raid and arrested him alongside several of his neighbours. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

He stated that despite spending five days in detention, the EFCC found no incriminating evidence against him. The rapper described his experience as traumatic, labelling it as another example of how the Nigerian system unfairly targets innocent citizens.

“Nothing was found on me after all their investigations. Nigeria just happened to me,” Oladips lamented.

The rapper alleged that despite being cleared of any wrongdoing, he was compelled to pay ₦10 million to secure his freedom — a payment he described as extortion.

Inside the Detention Experience

Recounting his time in EFCC custody, Oladips painted a grim picture of the conditions he endured.

“It’s just one smelling place like that. They packed us there like sardines and gave us terrible food,” he said.

He went on to appreciate fellow artist Zlatan Ibile, who reportedly sent him meals during his detention period.

“Funny enough, it was Zlatan that was sending me food. Zlatan is not even a friend — that’s my blood. He sent someone to get good food for me because the food there was bad,” Oladips explained.

The rapper questioned why he was kept for nearly a week when no evidence of financial crime was found against him.

“Why did I spend four to five days there when you people didn’t find anything on me, not even a single thing? And they still collected ₦10 million from me before releasing me,” he added.

Fear of Challenging the System

When asked if he planned to take legal action against the EFCC, Oladips expressed skepticism, citing his lack of influence and distrust in the system.

“Who is my father? At the end of the day, who is my father? It’s just me and my truth,” he said during the podcast.
“It’s not something I will want to pursue. I don’t even know how the system works. If I was doing Yahoo, I’d be on their page by now. They didn’t find anything on me, and they know it.”

Oladips emphasized that his claims are based on firsthand experience and maintained that the ₦10 million payment had no legal justification.

“They collected money from me before releasing me. They didn’t find anything on me. So what was the money for? What was all that stress and suffering for? It’s just Nigeria. Nigeria happened to me,” he concluded.

EFCC Yet to Respond

As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not issued any official statement addressing Oladips’ allegations. The claims have, however, sparked a heated debate online, with many Nigerians calling for transparency and accountability within the agency.

Social media users have flooded the rapper’s comment sections, demanding answers from the EFCC and sharing similar stories of alleged harassment and extortion by operatives of the anti-graft body.

The incident adds to growing concerns about the methods and integrity of the EFCC’s operations, particularly regarding arrests of entertainers and young Nigerians suspected of cybercrime without substantial evidence.

For now, the nation watches closely to see if the EFCC will break its silence or investigate the shocking claims made by Oladips — a case that has once again put Nigeria’s justice system under public scrutiny.

It is so bad that even if you conduct EFCC recruitment ten times it is from this same set population (greedy wicked people) you will get staff from, so tell me how Nigeria can get better without Nigerians changing for good?

Is that not why they are still doing night raids like armed robbers without any regard for their own lives

Any group of people that decide to knock down your door in the dead of night, are robbers. Don’t wait for them to identify themselves, common sense could have told them to identify themselves before breaking your door. So don’t wait, arm yourself and treat them accordingly as robbers.

That's all they do in efcc commands. From uyo to ph to lagos. Most of their staffs live lavish lifestyles in ikoyi. Eat meals of 30k as civil servants. Its a very dirty organisation that needs to be shut down

An average efcc officer is a criminal. They are all using the latest phones that their 5 months salary cannot buy

They go for raids. Steal gold chains. Collect btc and drop some boys on the road.
Those who have 5m and 10m will quickly leave without court.

They have their own lawyers in their offices, who they call after raids. These lawyers are the ones who take bribes for them and forward to 3rd party accounts belonging to efcc officers. .

Those who can't pay will be forced to do plea bargain and pay fine.

Some of them do illegal raids with touts and use the funds to sleep around. A current cross river house member was their former staff, made millions from illegal raids and was quietly dismissed and he joined politics
