Why GEJ Will Be Removed If He Wins 2027 Election – Ex-Appeal Court President by Pakute(op): 2:14pm On Oct 31, 2025

Former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, has explained why ex-President Goodluck Jonathan can’t run for the presidency in 2027.

Speaking via an opinion article, Salami stated that the constitution bars Jonathan from running for office.

He warned that any attempt by Jonathan to occupy the highest political office in Nigeria would be a violation of the law, as the constitution clearly restricts any person from being President for more than two terms, or eight years.

The former Appeal Court President explained that Jonathan completed the tenure of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s term before winning an election of his own, making any further attempt unlawful.

He stressed that if Jonathan contests and wins, the victory would not stand. The courts, he said, would nullify such a mandate.

Salami said: “It is painstakingly and dispassionately demonstrated abundantly to all and sundry that the ambition of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to contest for the office of the president for the second term in the 2027 general election is effectively and undoubtedly shot down.

“ My advice to the political class angling up in his support to heed the warning, caveat emptor usually directed to land speculators to be aware.

“In an event of his winning the election he will be conveniently removed by the Court of Appeal in an election petition to that court which removal will be undoubtedly affirmed by the Supreme Court on the ground that his total tenure would have exceeded the eight years maximum tenure.”

He added: “ It seems to me, however, that the interpretation of the amendment is not strictly in contention.

“What is in issue, to my mind, is the eligibility of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to seek the office of the president in the 2027 general election, being a person who exhausted the remainder of the term for which Umoru Musa Yar’Adua was elected president.

“It is his case that the amendment to the Constitution cannot take a retroactive effect.This argument has probably lost sight of two points of view.”

Jonathan joining the race in 2027 will be a game changer. Peter obi will suspend his presidential ambition and support Jonathan. Atiku will put on hold his presidential ambition and also support Jonathan. South East, South South, and many parts of North will be a landslide victory for Jonathan. For these urchins, including the lawyer in the above article can cringe and suffer epilepsy for all I care. Not again to the demonic hurricane that has befallen Nigerians.

Let him contest against Tinubu i want to check something. Anyway APC has zero issues with him contesting, the only people who see him as a threat are the Obidient noise-makers.

Nigeria needs a new face in leadership not this people we are seeing. Jonathan was a failure and I hope he is smart to enjoy the value he has now.

The people who stopped Nigeria’s progress by removing Jonathan from office are the same people claiming to love the country more than others today.
Remove them from power and watch how they will become the biggest rivals and critics to any government in power. Their clergymen will be on the streets protesting every good government policy and their leaders will become activists and will be on every radio and TV station inciting Nigerians against the government in power. Today ,they all suddenly become patriotic

What do you expect Salami to say? considering that Salami was removed as the appeal court chief judge under GEJ when he was indicted for corruption (he was known as the APC judge then).

All these people who don't know lawy will just be springing up and down, where are they when the president who doesn't have power to suspended a democratically elected governor just like him suspended a governor...

These people should stop testing the law to favour them or cause panic, I'm not a lawyer, but for people who are educated to some certain level, the law and constitution is very easy to interpret...

The law state 2 terms, GEJ has not done 2 terms, all those or 8years, is another law on its own that doesn't apply to GEJ if he intends to come back

He had been sworn in twice.
Once as acting while the second after the elections.
He could've only use the power of the incumbent to change the narratives, if he had win Buhari in 2015.

Justice Ayo Salami was removed during Jonathan's era. Constitutionally eligible or not, he won't ever pray for Jonathan's return to power.
