What we also need Trump to say is this 'there better be free and fair elections in Nigeria' s next election. If not not only would any such government from such rigging not be recognized by the greatest nation on earth ,but all those involved in the conduct of any such MASSIVE ELECTION FRAUD,will face severe, unprecedented CONSEQUENCES.Thank you to your attention to this matter'. Immediately you would see the best election ever conducted in the annals of Nigerian history and a genuine winner emerging. |

FarahAideed:Seriously When I saw it on NTA TV screen as breaking news, it was so disgusting The next thing Information Minister went on CNN to regurgitate the same words, before the entire world, the CNN news casters abi interviewers open mouth in shock, they kept saying Sir, Sir, Sir. Very shameful and appalling. Maybe that's what pushed Trump to make the latest pronouncement. |

Statement from the Government of Nigeria This week, the Government of Nigeria designated the United States a Country of Particular Concern for severe violations of civil, human, and international rights. The designation reflects ongoing concerns regarding the United States’ conduct, including politically motivated violence, systemic discrimination, selective and weaponized application of justice, arbitrary deportations—including removal of American-born citizens—provocation of trade wars through selective tariffs, aggressive military actions against countries such as Iran and Syria, and support for policies contributing to human suffering abroad, including the enabling of violence against Palestinians in Israel. Observers have noted that millions of Americans continue to live with fear, uncertainty, and threats to their fundamental freedoms. The Government of Nigeria emphasizes that such actions undermine justice, equality, and the protection of human rights, both domestically and globally. Governments that allow impunity, selectively enforce laws, or engage in policies that threaten global stability not only endanger their citizens but also pose risks to international peace and security. Through this designation, Nigeria calls on the United States to take urgent and sustained action to respect the rights of all individuals, uphold democratic principles, and engage constructively with the international community in accordance with international law and human rights standards. |

LegendHero:To start with condemning one incident is not the same as saying there is an orchestrated genocide. When you say how will Obi benefit from this, we are talking about people who have over the course of our history shown they don’t see beyond their noses. When it comes to politics they can’t see beyond the immediate and all they focus on is the immediate. Everything that has set us back as a country, everything that the same Ibos call for today was something the Ibos themselves enabled at the time for short term victory without understanding the long term implication and in the end they only set themselves and the country backwards. Secession clause 1966 coup, and introduction of unitary govt Right to Referendum Federating units and full autonomy Resource control Are these not the bases of our problems? Who removed the good and enabled the bad? Was it not the Ibos is their usual manner of not seeing beyond their noses? Again they are at it! The Ibo man will burn down his house to kill a rat in the house and then turn around to anyone who cares to listen that he is homeless and it was his neighbor who caused his homelessness. His brothers in the US are the ones lobbying for this. There is nothing America loves like an intellectually challenged and compliant puppet in charge of a country with huge resources. It’s no surprise Obi has been characteristically quiet. |

LegendHero:What it means for Nigeria (and implications) In the case of Nigeria: Nigeria was designated as a CPC in December 2020 by the U.S. Department of State for “systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.” However, at some point in 2021, Nigeria’s CPC designation was removed. There are ongoing calls by oversight bodies (such as U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, USCIRF) for Nigeria to be redesignated because of continued religious-freedom concerns. For Nigeria, if it is officially designated again (or stays designated), the consequences might include: Diplomatic/Political impact: Strain in U.S.–Nigeria relations, increased criticism internationally. Aid/Assistance effects: U.S. government could reduce or condition non-humanitarian aid. Reputation & investment: Being seen as a country that tolerates serious religious-freedom violations can discourage foreign investment, affect trade, and weaken international standing. Incentive for reform: The designation is also meant to pressure the government to improve protections for religious minorities and prosecute abuse. What it doesn’t necessarily mean It doesn’t automatically mean full sanctions or that all U.S. aid will be cut. The U.S. has discretion how to respond. It doesn’t mean the U.S. has concluded the country is solely responsible for all religious-freedom violations. Often non-state actors (insurgent groups, gangs) contribute. The designation focuses on the government’s role (either action or inaction). It doesn’t necessarily mean the religious-freedom situation is the only or even primary human-rights concern — but it is a major one. |
