Tanzania Unrest Deepens as Protesters Seize Police Uniforms and Torch Properties Linked to Top Officials

Tanzania has descended into widespread chaos following the country’s disputed presidential election, with fresh reports of escalating violence, looting, and confusion in major cities.

The unrest erupted after the electoral commission declared President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s ruling CCM party victorious in the October 29, 2025, election — a result many opposition supporters have rejected as fraudulent. Several opposition candidates were barred from running, and one leading figure remains jailed for treason.

In shocking scenes captured on video, protesters were filmed wearing abandoned police uniforms, reportedly left behind by officers who fled as the demonstrations intensified. The move caused significant confusion on the ground, making it difficult for genuine security personnel to identify civilians in disguise.

Amid the escalating tension, protesters allegedly set fire to several high-profile properties, including the residence of Parliament Speaker Tulia Ackson and multiple properties belonging to President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s son, Abdul. Among them were mansions and construction projects reportedly still under development, which were seen engulfed in flames in viral videos shared on social media.

In one trending clip, protesters can be seen cheering and hailing military trucks as soldiers drove past without using force. “The army is now with us,” some demonstrators shouted, suggesting a possible rift between the people and the police.

Security forces have since increased their presence in key regions, but eyewitnesses report that many officers have opted for restraint to avoid further bloodshed. The government has imposed movement restrictions in parts of the country as the situation remains tense.

Political analysts say the developments in Tanzania could signal a growing continental awakening, as frustrated citizens across Africa rise to challenge bad governance and decades of corruption. Many warn that African leaders must start listening to their people — allowing free and fair elections — or risk widespread uprisings that could spread beyond borders.

Protesters, rejecting the results, raided a police station and made away with uniforms, causing confusion as some were later seen wearing them. They also set fire to properties linked to top officials, including mansions and construction projects belonging to the president’s son and the Speaker of Parliament. The situation remains tense as security forces move to restore order nationwide.

God when?

Nigeria will one day be liberated.

All these mansions built by stolen money will go up in flames in Just one hour.

Afterwards, before you steal and build house with it you will need to think twice. Gradually, Africa is being liberated. That is the only way we can be free. Ordinarily, a black man in power is wicked inside out.

Congratulations to people who have fought for their freedom and I pray God give others the courage and the strength to follow suit.
God bless Nigeria, God bless APC at least till that time comes.

Hope those people are all protesting in their various regions cos in Nigeria we always protest in our regions so that we won't offend some people and some people won't claim other people's Lagos state.

Cameroon is heavily divided like Nigeria; the Southern part made up of Christians have been agitating for their own country called Ambazonia just as Southeasterners are agitating for Biafra.

So the division is not giving Cameroonians room to unite against evil leadership of Paul Biya

Dear Black africans, like come on, just let power go! I mean, what is thhis obession with powerr? Why cant u all run free and fair election? What are u scared of? Are u all mentally lazy that u cant survive outside politics. I always say it that democracy is not for black people. The black people are naturaly very brutal and wicked, no wonder we remain the most under developed and backward race on earth. The black race needed a system that has strong powerful spiritual justice system that send u to ur grave for corruption instantly. They will change by force, but leaving an african man and woman to the mercy of justice system from court is risky. Why cant u just run election free and fair? Why lock up opponents or ban them? Using the state institutions to give ur self advantage, is this fair? Now, ur country is in chaos, are u happy now? What is it with pride and obession with black people?
We have been begging Nigeria leaders same, do the right things. use the public funds for the public, conduct free and fair election, stop allowing govt officials to make ethnic and tribal sentimental comments or posts, persecute them instantly, use technology for election. Come on, do the right thing? The state has already taken good care of u and ur family, what else do u guys want? I am just tired of black people
