Bokku should rather looks for way to change the name. The damage had been done. Apology can't erase it. When Hausa man says Igbo they are referring to the whole south south. Even the West can't actually differentiate between them.
Re: Omo Igbo: Bokku Mart Tenders Apology by RoiSoleil(m): 3:14pm On Nov 01, 2025
20 years ago that advert would have been wrong, untruthful and hurtful for no reason.

The fact that new age media have made social reaction more instant does not change that fact.

Non Hausa/Fulani ‘Northerners’ have always struggled to have their own identities recognised but lately more and more southern Nigerians are learning that you shouldn’t tag everyone from the North as Hausa. That doesn’t mean that 20 years ago calling everyone Hausa was okay.

Dalohad:
If that advert was done 20 years ago. There wouldn't have been any issues.

We must understand that the current political climate is now seriously ethnocentricised. Nigerians are now more technically conscious than they were just 2 decades ago..

Everything is now looked at via an ethnic prism, and everyone should come to terms with that fact.

God help the proponents of 'One Nigeria', they are failing faster everyday, than the speed with which excrement hits the soakway from the toilets.

Bokku can never lose customers because their products are very affordable and of high quality. Times are hard; real people are trying to survive.

Nobody is beyond mistakes. You'd better wake up. The Bokku store in my street still has long queues of buyers even as I type this.
If the so called bokku have such costumers and people are rushing to buy high quality products from them at affordable price, what's of making statements like don't let omo igbo cheat you in their adverts ?

Bokku should change name because of a few poor people why can't come out on Mondays.
Dey play.

Maybe you were too small to use a phone when these poor people said the same thing about GTB when Innoson was trying to scam the bank.

This is an opportunity for Nigerians educate one another. For parents to unlearn bias and teach their children.

There's a part of the comment you quoted that says nobody is above mistakes. They made a mistake and have apologised. Everyone should move on.

Bokku is a great brand in Lagos, and I have often encouraged them to spread their footprints across Nigeria so that Nigerians outside Lagos can enjoy their goodness.
Re: Omo Igbo: Bokku Mart Tenders Apology by RoiSoleil(m): 3:19pm On Nov 01, 2025
Thank God for the environment you were raised in.

The reality is that many people are raised with prejudice - mostly the result of ignorance, but sometimes from one traumatic experience that leads to generalisation in an echo chamber of emotion.

casualobserver:
Nobody brought up Yorubas to hate Ibos. If my parents ever mentioned Ibos to me as a child or even as an adult may God curse my entire generation with incurable afflictions. Not once in my entire life did my parents ever talk about ibos to us talk less preach any hate. Not once did I hear any degoratory word used against Ibos from my parents.

I grew up in an environment where we saw ourselves as Nigerians, your actions have changed that.

it is your actions thanks to the internet and your migration in significant numbers that has shown us your true feelings towards us and we are responding accordingly. If we were brought up to hate you, we would not be the only ones who returned your properties and the place you all ran to after the end of the civil war.

Thats what you get in this era of content creation. Bunch of illiterates building a large following of other illiterates. Business owners paying them for advertisement.

I like this. They made no mention of Iboe in their post. So this is not really an apology.

Their sales don go up and their social media followings keep increasing. I love them already.

There is no lies in that ad, we all know those who sell fake good and toxic medicine that continue to kpai people.
Do you have a list of their outlets outside Lagos?
Re: Omo Igbo: Bokku Mart Tenders Apology by Azazyel: 3:44pm On Nov 01, 2025
Why did they even apologize? They owe no apology to anyone. Bokku would continue to rise no matter how hard any hater tries to bring down the business
Re: Omo Igbo: Bokku Mart Tenders Apology by Kewekubosineh: 3:45pm On Nov 01, 2025
I think it was publicity stunt. The Management knew what they were doing.

The advert came at a time Lagos is tribalized along ethnic and religious lines. Where the ruling government feels Igbo is their Nemesis.

Anyway, they have apologized. Apology came when they're satisfied with the mileage the publicity has taken them to.

It shall not be well with politicians who have drawn wage of Hate between IGBO and Yoruba.

It's not the literal meaning that counts, but the intention. Same happens when you call someone "aboki". We know it literally means "my friend", but the intention is that, it means you see the person less than who they are.
I'm being picky about my words, before I go chop ban.

We didn’t even speak yoruba in my house until I was in secondary school. So how can a household who didn’t groom its children to speak yoruba care about Ibos or tribe? And that was the fatal error of our parents generation that we are now correcting, they raised us to be “western” forgetting our culture and traditions while others held on steadfastly to theirs.

The major issue with the Ibos was the civil war and the coup. People don’t seem to understand that unless something affects you directly, you can’t really care deeply about it.

The civil war did not occur in yoruba land, life went on as normal. As for the coup, Akintola was seen as a traitor at the time so we didn’t really care that much that he was killed.

We had no emotional investment in either the coup or the civil war to have a lifelong emotional fallback like the Ibos.

The coup and the civil war was something we learnt in school as part of history and that was the end of it. It is only as an adult that I am now on my own reading past history of Nigeria and seeing that the playbook of the Ibos didnt start today.

And I speak for many of my friends I. Incan also tell you that now when we speak amongst ourselves, what we are discovering is that many of the Ibos who grew up with us express certain opinions and we are thinking to ourselves. So this people felt this way all that while?

Things have changed. I always say thanks to the internet is we wouldn’t know how the Ibos amongst us truly felt! It started around 2015 when Buhari won and they started calling us Afon…. This thing didn’t start when Tinubu

We were doing one Nigeria, they were doing Ibo first. Now it is yoruba first and if anyone wants to call us bigots we shall take the label as a badge of honour. Because it means you aren’t getting your way anymore and the gaslighting is no longer working.

Omo Igbo is what got you emotional like a crybaby? What exactly is derogatory about it?

Also, are word like Agadorians, Ofe Mmanu meant to get Yorubas triggered?

Who are the parents rasing all the weaklings of this generation?

No wonder we have a lot of she-males these days cry

Anytime they call you Omo Igbo... It simply means they are wishing you evil. So it is very bad and dangerous to be addressed as such.

I don't expect anyone to be proud of being addressed as Omo Igbo.

All these typical Yoruba rants is not required. To fast track peace and live amongst yourselves without the IGBOs you claim are haters of your tribe, support BIAFRA.

IGBOs are ready to leave you in peace.

It's that simple.
