SCORENigeria can exclusively report that the cash-and-carry system in the national team has taken another dimension after a top agent gave a coach a car worth 100 million Naira to name his player on a final squad for an international competition.

A top source informed: “Yes, the coach received a car worth about 100 million naira to select a player for a major tournament.

“It was little wonder that suddenly the boy became his favourite in camp.”

“A lot of money changed hands for these coaches to select players and also play them in the national team,” added the inside source.

“The whole racket was very organised and it explained why the team failed to live up to expectations at this tournament.”

It would be recalled that the NFF technical committee met in Abuja recently and recommended the sack of various national team coaches as well as a re-organisation of their backroom staff.

This latest expose comes amid calls for investigations into the corruption that has overtaken Nigerian football for many years with the country’s anti-corruption agencies yet to prosecute officials who have been seriously indicted for corruptly enriching themselves.

A nationwide protest against corruption in sports has now been planned for November 17.
